  • does it work with mac computers?

    • they have a special MAC version… not sure why they have 2 different ones ????

    • screw the mac version, this version works. I have one!

  • I wouldnt see why it wouldnt.

    from WD website:

    Compatibility

    Formatted NTFS
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
Requires reformatting for Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard

  • MAC can read NTFS if you want to write to NTFS there are programs out there for example

    http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/

Else just reformat to a Mac file system to FAT32.

    Finally, a 1TB USB3.0 2.5" WD drive at sub $100 mark.

    • The day has come.

Anyone ordered from this mob before and can comment?

      • just price match from office works and get it 5% cheaper ????

        • Good for last day of Tax year as well ;)

        • OW will add on shipping cost before applying 5% discount. Still cheaper to pick up from store.

        • +8

Still cheaper to pick up from store.

but then you risk getting car-jacked…

      • I have had experience ordering from Digitalstar… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22531

This on the other hand maybe different.

    • Hallelujah, the day has finally arrived.

  • Why would OW add postage to the price? This is not an online only offer.

    • If you are in Melbourne (for example), your true cost is $99 plus delivery fee. That is how I see they will argue it.

      • +1

Ok, fair enough. Wasn't thinking about country boys. LOL

    • Exactly. OW will only add postage if you are not located in or near Sydney when the physical store is located. If you are then they will still match $99 @ Officeworks and get it for $94.05 which may be more convenient if OW is closer.

  • i saw this for around 79 at OW maybe it was a older model

    • proli 3.5"

  • Just picked up from DSE price matched 99 awesome!!

    • Can you upload ur receipt, in case my DSE does not match it ?

  • and if you pay using american express, would you get some discounts?

  • +1

    So tempting >.>

  • Hopefully a sign of things to come from other retailers.

This is good. I bought one of those 1TB portable Seagate drives, 2mths ago, it was $79 for USB 2.0, and this was a pricing error!

    USB 3.0, great price.

Why did you not post it? Or just a once off price error !? :)

      • -1

Good Question - posting a Receipt for such purchases helps a lot of peeps get a better price at large stores!
        Shame Josh81 shame! :P

        :|

  • Have been keeping my eyes out for one, timely post last day for the year, bought one.
    Thank you.

  • Does Windows support USB3? I remember not being able to use my USB2 ports on my PC until I got XP SP1. Is it the same situation with USB3 - that it won't function until MS releases a service update?

    • Windows? You'll have to be more specific. Windows 3.1 doesn't support USB3 but Windows 7 does for example :)

      • Does it? Windows 7 didn't support USB3 at launch, so when did they add support, may I ask? Was there a patch?

        • Ahh okay, mine works but I'm running SP1 and also may have installed specific motherboard drivers to make USB3 work (can't remember), all I know is, it works on my computer. One would think Windows7 SP1 patch brings full USB3 support with it.

        • Hmmm, I didn't know that. I'm one of those guys who refuse to install a service pack until a year after it's initial release for it to get rid of all it's bugs.

Got my laptop 1.5 years ago, Windows 7x64. Supported USB3.0 back then, still supports it now no problemo. If there's something that doesn't support USB3.0 it'd be the mac computers. I'm pretty confident it's to do with the firmware, not the operating system. As long as Intel's friendly with your company, you'll have proper USB3.0 support.

I knew it. I knew that as soon as I would buy one from OW at $124 some total bastard will release it for way cheaper than that. 8(

That said, I think I could do with at least one more…

    • you have now been infected with ozbargainitis!
You will want to buy just cuz its a bargain. even if you already have it.

  • It's a difficult choice. For $99, buy this or LOTR extended blu ray?

    • this, and find a download of LOTR legally somehow and store it on there ;)

      • 78GB…
        Gonna be a while :P

  • was anyone ordered this product ?

  • Officeworks price matched to $94.05, so not bad :)

  • Yes, yes they did and yes, yes it isn't. :)

  • Just bought it from Officeworks. They hid it under the counter.

  • i was just checking the OW website and now its $124 , would i still be able to get it at $99 with 5% discount?

    • They price-match it, yeah. So long as digitalstar (poor bastards) have stock. Dunno how it works on the website (if it does). The digitalstar offer expires today as well (overheard them telling the OW guy who was doing the stock-check).

  • Thanks guys. I just popped over to Digitalstar and picked one up.

It's good timing actually. I've just recently bought a new laptop with USB3 ports, and have been thinking of getting an external hard drive for it.

  • so u jst bought one at OW?

  • Ok, Thanks. getting one now lol

  • btw, how did u price match it?

  • Just got one for $95.

Walked in with the printed web page from Digital Star, found the hard drive on the shelf, walked up to a support girl and asked if they price matched. She asked where the store was, in stock, went round the back for 5 minutes, came back and said no problem…

    • Me too, around $94 after 5% discount. Didn't bother to check stock availability at DS.

    FYI: 1tb iomega usb 3 for $109.99 + $10.50 shipping (or free pickup) @ Mwave http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-22100689

  • I didn't have to print one out, some person did that for me beforehand lol. Apparently office works has been getting quite a lot of business on these things in the past 2 days.

I can confirm that the deal ends today. The rep called up digital star to inquire about it. Also for those of you interested in the specs, I've just tested them. The hard drive is a tiny, tiny bit fatter and wider than your standard 2.5" drive. However it is shorter in length (roughly 5/6 of a normal one).

The real world max read and write speeds are 70MB/s and 48MB/s respectively.
So roughly 2.5x the speed of USB2.0 (for this hard drive)

  • OfficeWorks has dropped their price to $98 now to avoid having to price match.
    Smart move.
Doesn't worry me. I am happy to buy it from them.
