  • Sorry, the charger is only rated to 1amp … it will not charge the ipad whilst in use, at best it will trickle charge it whilst off taking ~12 hours. The iPad requires a 2.1amp charger, see link below for $2.59.

    • haha you beat me to it… even on the box of the advertised special, no where does it state ipad..

for an ipad to charge, you need 2.1 amps.. iphones/ipods only need 1..

    2) Not C-Tick approved/certified for Australia

    3) C-Tick approved/certified Dual USB Car Chargers are available for 26.5% less than $4.22 delivered

      Hi, A3Australia:
Thank you very much for your detailed information! :)

    • Hi, Powerevolution:
Thank you so much for your answers.
      I will. :)

    • Hi POWERevolution

I have tried the round dual charger(s) you listed. The ones from Buy in Coins eBay listing. No C-Tick, but supposedly the CE mark.

I purchased them from the http://www.Buyincoins.com website

I found that they 'sort of' work OK. However, sometimes they can't power/charge two iPhone 4 handsets at the same time. What happens is - one handset is connected and charging OK, then when another handset is connected the first one goes 'ding' and stops charging. Sometimes I could disconnect and re-connect the first handset and it would charge again - sometimes this would not work.

I have changed to the C-Tick certified ones from DealExtreme and no more problems. I am sure they will be available on eBay as well - probably for less money?

      EDIT:
I see that neg is now working.

  • Strange. Why can't I edit my post?

Anyway, I was wanting to add that:-

I have purchased these 2 port chargers and found that they can not charge two iP4s at the same time. They might charge two other devices/iPhones at the same time, but not iP4s.

The above was why I purchased the C-Tick certified models listed in my first post. I find that these units CAN charge/power two iPhone 4 handsets at the same time. I would think that they could also power/charge an iPad/iPad2 (but NOT TWO iPads at the same time).

It appears to me that the C-Tick certified car chargers are more 'true' to their specifications. I have purchased many, many, home and car chargers from overseas/eBay - I now ONLY purchase C-Tick/A-Tick certified devices, as all the non-certified devices have either failed completely or worryingly 'heated up' or caused erratic behavior with the iPhones connected to them.

    • you can't edit coz the rep reply to that 1
now you can't edit this 1 too :D

  • Does a 2amp, non mains powered car charged require a c-tick?

    • Yes.

      No matter what output.

      • But it's not mains powered. I thought c-tick was confined to mains powered devices.

    • Not sure but 2amps will easily start a fire/munt what ever device you have.

Beats me why people buy cheapshit chargers for their $700+ phones. There's all kinds of crap that can go wrong. I have seen jumpered diodes (must have run out at the factory) dodgy bros soldering incorrectly rated components. Just asking for problems.
One bloke totally fried his Blackberry by simply starting the engine while his $3 piece of shizen charger was plugged in.

Really guys, this is the time to buy a name brand device with a reputation to protect.

      • Hi King Tightarse

I agree, BUT I find it difficult (well impossible) to pay 'brand name' prices of $29-$49 for a home or car charger.

I have found that A-Tick/C-Tick certified car chargers for $3-$5 from DealExtreme - and A-Tick/C-Tick certified home chargers from $10 'kits' on sale at Kmart and Target - to be quite satisfactory.

At the moment there is a $10 iPod kit on sale at Target. I give, or throw, away the bits I do not require and keep the approved 1 Amp AC charger and USB/Sync cable.

  • For you iPad and iP4 owners who want something 'shorter' for $3.70 delivered.

    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-cigarette-powered-dual-usb-…

This is said to have one 2.1 Amp (FastCharge) output and one 1 Amp output.

No C-Tick but it has a CE mark.

I will buy two on my next order and try them out.

    • Mate my above post above relates directly to Deal Extreme and other Chinese discount sites.
They will happily print any symbol you like on it if it helps sales, not to be trusted or believed.

Think house fire/car fire. Bad juju.

I now only buy A-Tick/C-Tick certified 240v AC chargers and only IN AUSTRALIA - Eg. when on sale in Kmart/Target. I have several now. Some came with AC charger, car charger, and cable for $15 from Kmart (I gave the other iPod bits away). The latest came from Target for $10 - 240v AC charger, cable, earphone pouch, cleaning cloth, and FM transmitter.

I note that ALL the non-certified AC chargers I have ever purchased have failed in one way or another. Luckily no fires or electrocution, however.

As for C-Tick certified 12 volt car chargers from DealExtreme. DealExtreme are not the manufacturers. They are selling items they source from the makers. These C-Tick car chargers carry a suppliers number that relates/traces to the person/company IN AUSTRALIA responsible for the certification. I have never seen or heard of 'fake' C-Tick or A-Tick certification. I have seen fake FCC and CE marks - which is why I said "supposedly" in my previous posts when referring to CE marks.
