  • I refer rechargeable….

    • Shame none of the Xiaomi ones are. Yeelight however…

      • +6

I have 3 of the yeelight rechargeable ones. They're about twice the price but amazing. The hooks on them are perfect for hanging around the house as motion sensor night lights.

        • You'll be disappointed to know that the next gen Yeelight have switched to a US plug type light.

    • Yeah it's a little annoying using 3xAA's. Leaves you with odd batteries.

      • If you are ozbargainer you should have a lot envelop

      • +3

        Buy 2, problem solved.

        • -1

But then you need 6 batteries so you need to buy 2x 4 packs or 1x 10 pack and have batteries left.

    • +1

      ENELOOP

    • +8

replaceable rechargeable are better imo, no down time and don't need to worry about battery degrading.

      • I agree with you.

      • +1

Same. On these sorts of devices replaceable batteries all the way!

25lm seems like a huge jump up from the old version, wonder if it's really that much brighter? Might grab a few and try them out anyway

    • We run our hall unit on low, and it's the perfect brightness when you get up in the middle of the night. Looks like the new one has a minimum brightness almost as bright as the old ones max brightness.

They must be using more efficient light emitters, or have more efficient sensors, for it to have more light and longer battery life.

    • I'm with you. Seems like a great deal, but surely it can't be 7x brighter than the original…

      • Why can't it?

        • -1

          Moore's Law? http://www.mooreslaw.org/

Power usage increases by a third, output increases by nearly 700% and longevity increases by 25=33% on what was already a very efficient brightness/power ratio? I didn't think LED's had developed so quickly over the past 6 to 12 months.

Not impossible, but I'll believe it when I see it…

          • @UncleRico:

            Moore's Law? http://www.mooreslaw.org/

Has nothing to do with light output

Power usage increases by a third

            No it hasn't.
The rated power has increased which means nothing.
Rated power is what the item was designed to operate at, it might never operate at that power level and it can operate higher than the rated power level. But it will handle any power up to the rated level and perform as expected.

            output increases by nearly 700%

So they have used a brighter led and probably one with a higher lumens/watt value.

            longevity increases by 25=33%

So they have used components with better power management and a more efficient PIR.
Most of the time the led is not on so making things other than the led use less power will give the longest battery life.

          • @UncleRico: https://phys.org/news/2018-07-quantum-dot-white-efficiency.h…

Slightly old artical. I think I read something about heat being an issue with early quantum dot layered LEDs. The higher the photon energy emitted by the internal LED, the brighter the quantum dots glow but the heat produced by the LED wrecks them.

Quantum dot LED is fairly young tech so brightness, efficiency and longevity will probably continue to make leaps ahead with better implementation of the quantum dots that reduce their exposure to heat and a change from blue to lower wavelength internal LEDs

  • Not sure if it's worth paying twice the price of the old one.

    • When was the old one that cheap?

      • My bad , read the old one in USD

  • Thanks OP, will pick one up. Have the Gen 1 hung on a door handle and I keep knocking it off. This one will work much better being on it's own base

  • +3

Why'd they have to make the minimum brightness so high? 0.7 is perfect for late at night and just being able to see what you're doing without blinding yourself

  • it shows $4.38 shipping fee for me.

  • So far I've bought a Xiaomi electric scooter, bag and Band 4 from deals on here. Soon my house will be full of Xiaomi stuff..

    • +4

      Welcome to the club

  • Is it just me or the price went up to $12.47 US including delivery

  • +7

Seller has added a shipping fee. Ride's over I guess :/

  • $12.34 + $6.63 shipping for me

  • +5

Bought the 2 PC (click the 2nd pic under the $) for AU$ 26.93 shipped few mins ago.

  • How long does aliexpress goes through “awaiting payment” to whatever’s next? Seems like already deducted from my card. This was my second time buying from aliexpress, but another thing I bought later already went to “awaiting shipment”.

  • +1

Next cheapest seems to be ~$9.30 US

  • +1

Am I the only one that prefers the old flat form factor?
Just sits neater on the wall/surface. In fact the places where I did have more boxy sensor lights I've gone the other way and replaced them with my led strip set up, again, to make it look neater.

    • What LED lights do you use? Are they USB rechargable or batteries?

      • I used to have two lights (not these, but still the general motion sensor led blocks) at the top and bottom of the stair case. I finally got around to replacing that with an LED strip lengthwise along, powered by 3x li-ion cells since no power point nearby.
But yeah the main goal was just to not have these obvious lights there.

    • 36mm isn't that bad.

The first gen is actually 36mm too. so i don't know what the complaint is.

  • Thanks OP

Paid 26.94 for 2 Now.. After deal expired…
    $13.47 each..

    • Now showing as AU $24.43 for 2. Might buy a couple

  • +2

These are available again, at US$8.70

  • Says delivered but I never got it!

  • Mine has been awaiting customs clearance since Sep 27.

  • Hey guys anyone knows how it works? I received them today but motion sensor is not working. When I insert or remove and insert battery again, it turns on but doesn't turn on automatically after motion.
There is no on/off for motion only to increase/decrease brightness.

    • Try the Swith

      • what does that mean?

      • sorry, face palm. obviously during the day it will not be activated.

    • it can't be on during the day.
