Have to say, this is a pretty impressive phone:
    -for a budget price
    -as an entry level Samsung

Mine is work supplied, so I didn't have the choice, but I'm pleasantly surprised about almost everything. I've bought quite a few China phones seeking that elusive bang for buck. A few Xiaomi phones among them, sharp Aquos, Oppo… This is by far the best.
Would love it if gcam was easy to load, but alas I'm not risking bricking the phone lol
720p screen is great for 99% of the time (occasionally notice it when watching something up close in bed), and being my first AMOLED I'm converted- just love the blacks. Fairly snappy with most multi tasking, and battery life is outrageous imo. I've never stressed less about being near a charger.
Very glad to have a headphone jack again, even though I mostly use TWS buds- the option is just so much more versatile.

Aquos 3 is offended and would like to have a word with you….

  • HOw do we know which stores have these in stock?

    • +4

You're expecting alot for a company that struggles to cope with it's core job…. :)

    • Go in store and ask.

You can ring them but their inventory is slow to update as I found out this am.

  • Thanks OP. Have been on the lookout for one since missing bigw deal

  • +1

Call Australia Post customer service, they will advise which places have stock & amount of stock on hand at each A/Post.

  • +1

Just one at Martin place Sydney (I didn't get it). Looked like serial # started with 13.
None at Australia Square or Royal Exchange.

These are probably going to be as elusive as the Optus Sleeks

Note they are in a red Vodafone box, not the blue/white Telstra/Samsung box also containing A20.

I bought mine from Big W for the same price around 3 weeks ago. I planned to use it in my car for AA, but it seems the GPS isn't that good. It can take up to 20 mins to get a GPS fix while my Note 9 usually takes upto 10s to get a fix. While driving in the CBD, the GPS often loses the fix and takes mins to fix again. Not sure if it is just my unit. (I saw someone posted the same question in the Big W thread)

  • How does this compare against the nova 3i which is selling for $299? Looking for a reasonable budget phone with good camera. Features like fingerprint sensor, NFC, etc are nice to haves but not a requirement.

    • In their unlocked form and for the $20 difference, I'd say the Nova wins it.

      • +1

How do you get $20 difference… This phone is $159

        • $279 for unlocked A20.
          https://shop.auspost.com.au/product/samsung-galaxy-a20-43553

We still haven't established if these AUPost ones can be cheaply unlocked.

          • @spy: You mean $120 difference I think.

            • @ozhunter68: Only once cheap unlock is confirmed

              • +4

@spy: Yes, correct. But the difference will be closer to $100 than $20 yeah, unless you pay Vodafone $50 now to get it unlocked by them directly. Even then it's still only $209 unlocked saving you $70.

I just ordered one online, it did not say sold out? Am I missing something?

    • +2

      Restocked.
Yay for those hunting for one.

    • +1

No I don't think so. It was earlier this morning showing no stock, but as the morning has went on they have obviously found more stock and have updated the system. I too bought one.

      • Yeah they were sold out last night.

    • +1

Yep def sold out, got an email from Aus post and a refund.

  • bought online. will return if IMEI is too new, or use on Kogan network.

  • interesting so the phone is located in DEVONPORT TAS.

    • +3

They have the no refunds on change of mind returns on signs in Australia Post shops too. Worst case scenario is that you have to pay vodafone $50 to get unlocked, effectively paying $210, that is as cheap as unlocked version sells for, so it's still ok, except for the voda firmware and having to wait for carrier specific update which are always slower than real unlocked phones

    • +1

Can't blame them, unless it doesn't work which they'll take back. Change of mind is probably a rort for many…

  • +1

    Showing as sold out again.

  • +3

Just bought at AusPost Brisbane GPO. Looks like it has U1 boot loader !

  • +4

Just bought one with IMEI starting 10 and unlocked it successfully!

GPS so far working fine when I opened google maps, instant lock on (in Adelaide), I have not tried it while driving yet.

    Edit: Bought in store.

    • How was gmaps loading? I tried on a couple of phones in jb hifi all but the s10 were slow at loading the map (maybe no gps lock) even the note 10 was slow

      • Definitely slower than my iPhone by a few seconds.

        • +1

          Whoch iPhone is thay

          • @kehuehue: iPhone X

            • @tadasu: in that case its not bad, im looking to upgrade from the iPhone 6 Plus (also lol @ spelling)

    • how much it cost to unlock and whereabout?

    • Did you try with Navigation or just open GMap? If you just use GMap, you may not see the GPS issue as it can locate you from the network or something (just like how it locates you on you computer). I installed an app called GPS data to see the status of the GPS https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.exatools.g…

      • Only tried that at home at that time.

But today I had just tried navigation while driving as well, no problems so far luckily.

  • +4

Literally got it unlocked via website. Took all of a restart. Bought the last one from Knox Westfield instore.
Good hunting guys. Great little unit.

    • "ashtrayc2c" was the unlock free or you had to pay ( usually $50 before 6 months )?

      • +2

Mine was free, this stock must have been sitting in AP for a while to be free unlocks

      • +2

        free

        • "Jackso" Has nothing to do with sitting around in an AP for any length as many people have had a prepaid Vodafone phone for years and still the website says $25 to unlock.

Glad to hear people are getting lucky and getting a free unlock :-)

  • what yall using the $30 starter kit for?

    • Phone calls and data.. you?

      • +1

any ideas how much data u get with the $30 prepaid sim?

  • SA people - I tried Mitcham and Unley for the phone with no luck, Marion & Glenelg were showing 1 in stock, I grabbed the Marion one.
Voda unlock website seems to spit out an unlock key but I don't have a non-voda sim to confirm it can be unlocked. Looks promising so far.

  • Anyone received their online phone via post? Was it U1 or U2?

  • can i convert this $30 to 365 days? min 365 is $40.

    • +2

yes, contact support. They will ask you to top up $10 in credit after which they need to do some stuff in the backend to change your plan to the $40 365 days expiry.

      • cheers mate; appreciated!

  • +2

Ow are price matching this deal if u show the catalogue and state the unlock symbel I just got one no problem
    $151.05 after 5% price beat

    • Did you use the physical catalogue? Because the online version is showing "Vodafone A20.."?

      • They altered the online version of the catalogue over night. It now doesn't show unlocked in the picture. You could still grab a physical catalogue I guess, but if they verify it on the internet, it will no longer say unlocked

        • Thanks for confirming :) I believe the trick won't work anymore.

        • Direct link to old image if anyone cares

          • @ballsau: Thanks for the image but this doesn't mention Aust Post, sale dates, etc.
Anyone have a link to the old catalog?

            • @Gaz1: …. I dropped into an Australia Post store but all the catalogues they had didn't say "Unlocked" - perhaps they had them re-printed? Of was it only on the website that it said unlocked?

              • @Gaz1: They must have as the catalogue my mum has definitely has the little padlock with unlocked written in it on the photo.

Still didn't help at officeworks and the Aussie posts stores wouldn't sell it to her even agreeing to be ok with the locked version.

      • I got one at 9.30 thismorning they price beat Aus post as it stated unlocked still

    • I tried but they looked up the Auspost website product page and shows locked to Vodafone

      • As expected :)

        • I went in store the looked at Aus post catalogue said yep unlocked so price beat $151.05

    • Are you in Vic by any chance. The 2 Officeworks we visited both wanted to cross check the website and refused to match as it showed the phone as a Vodafone A20 as opposed to just a Samsung A20.

      • I am in vic I rang befor 9 am ow and it was no problem

        • Which store if you don't mind me asking. Might be close enough for one last try.

  • +1

I just want to confirm that I unlocked two of these phones, vodafone boxed, by inserting an overseas SIM and using the Vodafone website to unlock them. Too easy.

    • Did you pay anything?

      • +1

Nothing at all. Either use a non vodafone network sim, or an international sim.

        • +1

Vodafone website asks me for $50 …

          Service fee$25.00
          New phone$25.00
          Total$50.00

          • @theBestBastion: Same for me, luckily mine is the U1 bootloader.

          • @theBestBastion: I get asked for the same with my U2 bootloader phone from Big W. Tried inserting an Aldi SIM but it's still coming up as $50.

  • If anyone bought one they don't need, please PM me - in Sydney :)

  • So when you say use a non vodafone sim card do you mean an Australian sim that uses the Vodafone network or a completely different one such as Telstra or Optus?

    • Yes, a non vodafone network provider. So Optus, Telstra etc…

  • Okay, I have a new theory. I think if you have an international sim (issued from a company overseas), you can unlock this phone for free via Vodafone.

    • A guy as commented below unlocked it with an ALDI SIM. I suspect it's because some of the serial numbers are free to unlock.

    • +2

its not because of international or local sim, it will ask for Unlock code for every non-vodaphone network sim.. you got both free unlocks because you must have old serial numbers, newer serial numbers (15xxx) have updated bootloader u2 which wont unlock for free..

      • Yeah it's got nothing to do with what sim you put in your phone.

      • +1

Okay, so considered older stock by Vodafone (which is strange considering the a20 was only released in April 2019).

  • has anyone who ordered online had any update on online order like despatched or delivered ?

    Thanks

    • Mine ships the next day.

      • Can I know when did you order ?

        Thanks

        • +1

ordered it on 2nd Sept. :)

    • Yeah, I placed my order Tuesday and haven't received any further shipping info etc as yet. Also noticed my CC payment is still showing as pending, so not holding my breath that I'm actually going to receive anything from this order.

  • +1

I just unlocked mine with an ALDI sim using the link above and no fee

    • Nice to know you can actually delete the Vodaphone apps which came with the install.

  • +2

Unlocked mine for free using Telstra SIM. My serial started with 14
