Apple is known for it's after sales service

So true. I had an iphone from O/S, way out of warranty, no Australian consumer cover, and they still swapped over for another phone for free….

        • +1

          Same thing happened to me.

Unbeatable service, although it also depends on the person you get.

          • @ilostnemo: I had to go 3 times before they swapped over my mom's phone with a refurbished one

        • +3

Same thing happened to me as well. I like Androids but damn Apple service is the best.

    • If you use iCloud storage the smaller on device storage doesn’t matter. I have 256Gb on my X and use 25Gb… it’s all stored off device.

Still has 12 month warranty and I’m sure you could get Apple Care with it if you wanted.

  • +3

    Dmn I thought was 400 save 1079

    • +10

Maybe on facebook marketplace for one with a broken screen.

      • +5

        jv is on the run!

  • +8

These will be supported for another 4 years (maybe more), it's a good price for what is a great phone.

If you can price match so it's closer to $1k, then go for it.

I personally don't think it's worth it, but it's kinda what you have to pay if you want a high end Apple device. But the fact you'll receive updates for the next 4 years or so makes this a good deal.

    • +1

also one thing to note is that Apple products hold their value really well in the 2nd hand market. You still see Iphone 7's selling for $400+

      • +1

Yeah, so even after 2 years if you want to upgrade, you'd still get a fair chunk back.

  • Scored some JB GC's recently at 20% off getting this to $863 .

Is that a irresistible price point ?

    • +1

If you're an iPhone user yes.

If you're comfortable with Huawei or LG albeit poor support maybe not.

But if you're not interested in all the niche extras Huawei and LG have (wide angle cameras DAC faster charging etc) then this is a good price for an iPhone I would be rather this over the XR though new ones are just weeks away I think

      -I'm a dedicated android fan-

    • +3

Where did you get the GC?

  • Probably worth spending the $150 extra to get an XR

    • I think I'd rather spend more for OLED rather than LCD but each to their own

      • +1

For 6” screen, is it even noticeable ? How much do you watch movies/tv etc. on your
        Phone ?

  • +1

Over $1k for a circa 2 year old phone?

  • Can't deny they still have the best user friendly software. But the hardware cost….. Can't justify the user friendly lol I rather have extra$$$ in my pocket.

    • +1

for something you use all day everyday though for years, when you think of it like that, it seems worth it. massive impact on your life

  • This year I have had a 8, XR, and a XS max 256gb i got last week brand new for $1300, but prefer my $50 SE. Go figure, they all do the same just bigger/smaller screens.
And X64gb i got for $1000 that was 5 days old the middle of last year, girl didnt like it coming from samsung, wouldn't pay that now.

    • I still use my SE as well… apparently new upgraded SE style models coming next year (not next week) Oh the wait… I can wait.

      • i wouldn't mind a new version of the SE , but have to wait till next year? :(

i don't need a bigger screen, like my small snug SE hehe

        • yeah will be great, i mainly use a iPad 11" and a iMac at home so don't really need a big phone. The SE goes good on ios13 too, been on the beta.

    • Where do you get SE for $50?

      • -1

gumtree, it was a Telstra prepaid 32gb in mint condition 97% battery health, had to get it unlocked on chat was easy, old bloke bought a XR and that's what he had on it $50 :)

        • Wow you’re lucky

My best pick from gumtree was ip 6s 128gb with orig box for $100
          :)

I’m still hunting for a cheap SE as I really like it’s small form factor

          • @DarthLord: Keep hunting they pop up, i buy all my iPhones from gumtree here's a few of my best scores in last 12 months, there's been others too.
X64gb 5 days old middle last year $1000, used then sold for $1100 to Mobile monster.
XR64gb sealed $700 Jan this year, used till a week ago sold to MM for $900.
XR64gb sealed $750 April this year, wife phone now.
XS max 256Gb sealed $1300 last week, not keeping too big, will probably give to MM for $1300, no buyers on GT.
SE 32gb $50 last week, using now.

In my experience buying a phone on GT is easy selling can be a nightmare.

            • @[Deactivated]: Why do you need so many phones in such a short period of time? Gloating purposes?

              • @Danstar: Why would i gloat about a phone, you serious. I just swap and try different sizes when they pop up, some i flip make a few $$ to pay for my tech addiction :0

            • @[Deactivated]: You’re darn good at finding good deals.
Hahaha i’ll Try to hunt for a bargain on GT

    • If I were a rich man,
      Daidle deedle daidle
      Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb

Wow so many phones, cool! Yes, my 'ol faithful 4S still allows me to Talk'n'Text just fine…only downside is I can only use the 7-Eleven App on the good lady's Iphone 5C…maybe one day :)

    • You want to trade for a note 10+?

    • Just curious. Why did you have 3 phones this year?

  • I bought this phone at this price 1.5 years ago.

    • +2

Hahaa see, still retaining good value 1.5yrs later

Anyway, overpriced for an old model phone

  • +1

Great phone and well priced. Still feels premium and performs very well for what I need it to do.

    • +1

SShhh! … be careful, Android users do not agree with you and will call you names for saying 'Great phone and well priced'..

      • -1

Oh please. It's called having an opinion. Just like every comment in every deal ever posted on this site.

  • +1

Excellent discount, but a phone shouldn't cost more than a laptop.

    • +1

How much does small-form factor h/w, portability, convenience, photography and embedded payment amongst other things cost though? Whilst it doesn’t replace the role of a laptop entirely, I’d say $1,000 isn’t a bad price point for higher end phones. The latest Apple range is a little absurd in terms of pricing.

  • +7

Most people only think of the up front costs. Some are smart enough to consider the full life cycle cost (end value and costs while maintaining it). An iphone may cost more upfront, but it retains resale value better so you can recoup your $ to spend on the next one. It is quicker to get it serviced and repaired (typically within an hour at the Apple store for a broken screen say), or getting a replacement if faulty while under warranty. A Samsung you would have to send back and wait for weeks. For people relying on a phone for business and having their contacts/notes stored on it, it's costly. Apple is also doing a good job with honouring warranty and consumer law, some other brands make it very hard or time consuming to claim warranty. P.s. Speaking from actual warranty and repair experiences, am not an Apple fan boy as I have both Apple and Android devices (more of the latter though).

    • I got my iPhone XR on a good deal, I'll have had it for about 12 months and going to sell it soon and expect to lose $100-$200 on what I paid for it. It's pretty exceptional when it comes to resale value.

      • there are new xr on sale for $200 less. these people must literally buy the first ad they see.

    • please tom, dont use common sense for these android fanbois

    • repair/warranty is rarely needed, the only advantage of apple is "muh ecosystem". also most people dont sell their phones after 1 year, they keep for 4 years or more and by that time the sell value is very low to make a difference.

    • Exactly this. iPhones hold on its value way better than an android flagship released in the same era, e.g. iPhone 8 plus vs Samsung Note 8 /Pixel 2 XL

    • You are so right, I've been telling this in Ozb dozens of time but no one seems to buy it. iPhone is not the greatest phone, but you can't deny that it has the greatest after sales service, warranty, resale value, and most stable software.I don't say the best software but ios update rarely ruin your phone, unlike Android where updates have ruin my battery life.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, in fact I'm using mate20pro at the moment.

  • +1

Don't EVER buy an iPhone a few days before next models come out!

    • When will be the next one coming up?thanks

      • +1

It's being announced next week, Wednesday morning

  • +4

Is $1100 for a 2 year old phone really a bargain?

    • +3

When it’s normal price is $400 more? Yes.

      • -1

Just because it's $400 off an even more absurd price doesn't mean it's a good deal. Remember this is a 2 year old base spec phone with 64gb. Point still stands that this isn't a bargain by any stretch of the imagination.

        • +5

For something that is rarely discounted, 25% is definitely a bargain. Whether or not this product is for you is a completely different story.

          • +1

@tzd116: Next week new iPhones will be announced, meaning these will reduce further in price within the next month. So buying now is not the best time if you want it for the best price.

            • @Trishool: True but (I might be wrong as I have never bought one outright so haven’t been paying close attention to prices) they rarely shave as much as $400 off an iPhone when a newer one is released I believe?

  • Going have a crack at JB latter trying around $1050 XR or $1300 XS lowest GB models . Both are close to Ebay prices after codes .

    • Same, the battery life on the xr is too appealing.

      • Let us know how thou guys went

  • +3

i have been using iphone since iPhone 4, can't beat the experience i had with iPhone 4 and iPhone X they were the best phones i used till now.

    • +3

How do you know that if you've only used iphones?

      • +3

I think he meant iphone 4 and x are two of the best of all the other iphones he has used?

  • What a bargain…bought 2

    • -1

      dumb but rich
      smarter but poor

    • Cmon those people lining up outside Apple stores for new products are the smartest people around.

      • Especially the one's that camp for days in advance - (Apple) Genius.

      • Please don't hurt the feelings of iSheeeeep, they are a precious bunch

    • legit legit

  • +1

    Still not worth it.

  • Still over priced even for 'iPhone standard'

  • Any Poco f1 on sale

  • if they could do this phone on the huawei p30 plan that expired few days ago id be so down

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/475651

  • +1

Almost 2 years old iPhone still cost $1479 before discount? This should be $1079 - $400 = $679. Probably will join Android when my iPhone 6s too slow or broken. At least $700 can get a decent Android phone.

    • +3

That may take a while LOL
On the other hand, how many people are still using a 4 year old Android of any make?;-)

  • I am not iPhone worthy.

It's a funny thing. People are always telling me Apple stuff is super user friendly, but the only Apple thing I ever have to deal with is my father's iPad and every time he gives it to me to try and get the bugger going I just know a headache is coming.

    • +1

Let me guess, an iPad 2? If so what do you expect? Apple has the best hardware build and software, nothing to argue about

      Price is another matter

  • I just called Jb-hifi and they said they're ordering them in, is it like how they're doing with the iphone 6s still

My main question is Apple still mass producing these or what ???

    • No, Apple are not. There's clearly a stockpile still sitting there, retailers have been ordered to move before the 11 comes out.

Don't get sucked in by the OLED screen, most overrated upgrade on a phone. No difference on a device this size. Pay a little more and get the 11R (or whatever they call it). It'll be worth more in 2 years when you move it for another, and this X is then 4 years old.

      • +1

Apple still manufactures old phones, especially as replacements. You can check the manufacture date on the system. I have an iPhone 7 with a manufacture date in 2019 which was a replacement from Apple. I'm sure they also make iPhone X's given they aren't that old.

  • Still one of the best smartphones ever made.

    However

Needs to be below $900 now at least

  • Caution: this has a slower processor than the cheaper Xr. Kids rather play Fortnite on the Xr as it 60fps vs only 30 on the X, that’s one example, not sure what else is so obviously faster.

  • Went to Price Beat after work but all OW branches in VIC are sold out!!! :( Might get one from JB tomorrow, still in doubt to get this or wait for the new iPhone? Using iPhone 6 Plus for 4 years with no issues.

    • +1

this will be a crazy upgrade for you and youll get atleast another 4 years out of this with maybe just a battery change inbetween.

  • Enjoy the terrible battery life on the X.. better off with the XR 128gb at this price point.

Also I hope you have plenty of data for cloud base storage. 64gb will fill quick.

  • +2

If you are in the Apple camp, this is the best value Iphone you can buy ATM, given the fact that it is brand new and sealed. Also you can use JBHIFI gift cards to purchase it. You get 5% discount on them through AGL or other loyalty programs and receive them via email in a couple of hours from purchase.

The X is a much better phone over the XR. The XR is bulkier and has an LCD screen as opposed to OLED. The X is also much sleeker. Trust me, regarding the slightly faster processor on the XR you will never notice the difference.

    • Just the storage is an issue, the thing that annoy me is if Apple will continue getting this version produced maybe with larger storage later?

      • 64GB is plenty considering the fact that most people use Google photos unlimited free storage to backup pictures and videos…and that way if you loose or change your phone you have everything in the cloud and also accessible via other devices….

  • -2

No headphone jack, no physical home button, no deal.

    • +2

Never needed to use a headphone jack in my phone and if I do. There’s a little adapter ….

Before I upgraded to an XR, I was hesitant to do it coz of the no home button. Now I spoke
      Never go back.

    • +2

Judging by how fast people have been buying the Airpods, Sony WF-1000XM3, Bose Soundsport and the likes, most people did not care about the headphone jack…

    • if you go wireless you will not look back, same goes for Face ID vs Touch ID
