  • Does anyone know if the sim card could be used in a dongle or similar USB internet modem?

My partner and I will be off-grid for the following year and this could be a great solution if we can somehow hotspot to this through our laptops.

    • +2

      Yes you can.

However you are better off getting Optus 4G broadband for $60 for 100GB (Sim only)
      $65 for 200GB incl modem
Or $85 for 500GB incl modem

      Or Telstra 4G for $75 for 100GB

      • I only use 4GB mobile data p/m, at most 5GB. Is it good deal?

  • +3

I’m currently in store now and there’s a $45 for 50Gb offer plus get a $200 voucher back.

    • 12months BYOD?

      • Correct

        • Do you mind sharing which JB store this was at? The ones near me have dropped it to 100. I would sign up to the deal if it is 200 still. Thank you.

        • Yeah me too. But all the ones I've been to have covered up the old $200 sign with a $100 one.

  • For those who are switching, if you are using Volte, after you ported in Telstra you need to see Telstra store for Volte Activation.

Now Telstra store has a new ID verification. If you buy something, access your account, or purchase a plan, you will be asked for an ID like license and they put it in a dedicated scan check machine to see its genuine or fake.

  • The waived ETC loophole is still available.
Signed up last week, jumped on to chat last night to query about getting a port-in credit applied.
Ended up getting bumped to a Telstra month-to-month plan with ETC being waived as well as port-in credit applied.

    • Is the Port-In credit universal right for moving into Telstra?

      • Various comments around here suggests that there is a lot of conflicting info from Telstra reps.
Some say the offer expired in April, some in August. Some have been successful in getting it applied while others haven't.

        • I will give a port in credit a try.

Don't really care about POMD or month by month as I will be using Telstra anyway for some time.

    • Have you received a bill yet? And it was all ok?

      • +1

No, too early for a bill.
Although everything was added to the order notes:

        • Add $10 Monthly Credit - 6 Months
        • Add Plan Contract Cancellation Waiver
        • Remove Service Contract 12 Months
    • +1

      Wait for the bill.
My experience with online chat - they say one thing, they do other thing.

      • Have never had any problems referring back to a chat log when disputing charges. I know the Telstra billing system is pretty crap, but have been able to get all refunds without too much of a headache. Just gotta play the patient game.

I just want to report that I've got $10 port in credit.

Yes I didn't ask for $40 plan but I was on $65 and now it becomes $55 per month.

I am happy enough! That will compensate for the loss of $100 giftcard.

    My order notes:
    1. Add $10 monthly credit
    2. Add modify order indicator
    3. JB HiFi Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 mths.

    • Including the $400?!

      Hmmmm. 🤔 Tempting!

    • Awesome. It's a case of not getting if you never ask. Good thing you asked :)

    • How did you manage to finagle the port in credit? I thought you couldn't add it after the fact and can only do it in the same transaction

      • Someone in Page 1 of this forum suggested doing a Live Chat with Telstra and simply asked for Port In Credit (but do it nicely and politely).

What I did differently was I said that I was offered a port in credit of $10 by the previous officer but had to leave as I had to go to meeting (I said I am doing this at work) but will return to the subject later.

      • The person I spoke to on Live Chat said that they can't modify the JB plans (no add ons or changes).
I don't know if that's true or not, but that was the reasoning they used to move me onto the $60pm Telstra plan and waived my ETC

        • Well. Order number 3 as above will answer your question but yours better anyway.

    • Nice. This could be nationwide so maybe I should have waited but Optus drove me crazy!

  • Hey, does anyone know if this has peace of mind data (unlimited at 1.5mbps) like other Telstra plans? Thanks.

    • +1

      Nope, it doesn't.

  • I had my mobile number on a Telstra business account. Ported out to Optus prepaid ($10 5 day SIM) which took all of 3 minutes to port. Walked into JB and signed up.

They don't allow people to get the gift card if they've been connected to Telstra personal (Siebel) in the last 30 days, but my number was a business service.

  • Has anyone been experiencing porting delay? I signed up this morning but has been waiting for more than six hours. JB wouldn't issue gift card until port in is done.

    • Are you getting $400 or $500 gift card for sign up?

  • Just managed to secure the $10/month port-in discount via live chat with Telstra rep. :)

  • FYI, the ETC loophole is still available.

Signed up $65/mth plan last week. Port in from Optus was delayed by a few days due to new iphone release.

After getting the $400 giftcard, I contacted Telstra via web chat. The agent moved me to $60/mth casual plan for 60GB data, then applied the extra $10/mth port in credit. To make up for the port in delay, they also gave me $65 credit as bill adjustment.

No ETC for changing from JB HIFI 12m plan to $60/mth plan. Also no ETC for $60 plan. Confirmed in chat transcripts.

  • Telstra rep told me that they can’t apply the $10 credit to a JB Hifi plan - the system won’t let then? Do i just need to keep trying?

    • Ended up getting $10 port in credit on the $65 JB plan despite them saying it’s not possible.. so paying $55 a month, which is better than nothing.

  • My Family and Friends Telstra S8 for $59 per month ends next month.

Looking for a similar price for unli calls with Telstra and a new handset.

  • Can you get the GOogle Next Hub even if you buy the Phone through JB hifi?

  • Just an update for those interested: Got my $10 Port In credit today via Livechat with 0 hassle on my JB plan.

  • For those in the know, if I were to take up this plan, would I find any issues adding an iPhone 11 (or other phone) MRO to it if I decided to go down that route. Been looking at transferring over to Telstra, so if I can nab myself a $400 gift card first, then add the phone secondly would make it an awful lot more tempting.
