Amazing what happens when an item is no longer on preorder. :)

Since it's above GBP25 the delivery is free.

AUD pricing in title calculated thusly:

AUD 67.49 / 1.2 = AUD 56.25 (remove VAT)

yeh that's pretty sweet. its a shame they decided on packaging this edition with the extras on dvds. would have saved a whole lot of discs by putting the extras on another blu-ray disc for each movie release. would have been a lot simpler since the extras are in standard definition.

fotr got remastered but for those who are purists may find that its now got a greenish/blue hue for the whole movie (doesn't bother me) but it has better details compared to the first release on bluray.

  • DVD's won't work here unfortunately.

Best to wait for the Star Wars blu ray (released on Sep 11) and buy that together with the LOTR blu ray.

    • Depends on how anxious you are :P Personally I don't see any point in waiting if you're worried about p&h costs considering its free & you're happy with the current price

  • -2

Its a good price but I'm going to wait till it hits 20 pounds as I'm in no hurry to watch it again

  • damn, how come its still $64.23 when I check out?

    • Choose "Free standard shipping" during the p&h process

  • Yep, Cheers just figured this out. Thanks Anyway

  • Good enough price for me.

Still kills me that it's 2x Blu Ray Discs each movie. Wasn't the whole point of moving to Blu-Ray from DVD, was more storage to avoid this sort of thing?

If you already have the DVD Extended edition set like me, might be worth waiting for single disc versions of the extended movies later, especially as the identical special features don't exactly necessitate glorious 1080.

There's much back and forth flameage about this. It seems to be more of a personal taste thing. For me, if the breaks are in the right place then having a chance to get more beer, take a wizz and other such things 1.5hrs into the movie is good enough, esp if the quality is such to make it worth it. If not, poo.

As for them being released as singles, they'd need to remaster them. I doubt the movie, as is, with the compression settings as they are, would actually fit on the one disk. Personally, I'd not hold my breath for this.

      Boo hoo
I have to get my lazy ass up change the disks.
Quality is where it's at, the main reason for the shift to bluray was the sound and picture quality.
DVD-HD failed because of this as well as the fact that it has very low market penetration.

    • I think it is important to remember that not only are the bluray disks higher capacity but the movie itself is much higher quality than DVD as well. No doubt there is a way to fit the whole thing on one BD - but I'm assuming this would require a bunch of compression.

    • Even more reason they should start releasing 3 or more layered blu-ray discs.

    • +2

Well, one disc is possible but the quality will be compromised big time. My memory is blur, I think bluray normally hover around 30-35mbps so our normal length (2 hrs-ish) movies fit easily onto one disc. However LOTR EE's average time is 4 hours per film, to cramp onto one disc, you really looking at sub 20mbps quality…I bet there will be a bigger uproar if this kind of quality turned up :P

  • +1

the movies are on 2 blu rays to maintain quality, they cant fit on 1 disc

  • You can play Lotro = lord of the ring online for free :)
If you do go to withywindle, my character ( simplesheep ) more than happy to helps you. And yes the game is free to play.

      and….
I'm wondering how this is related to the bluray deal

      • +2

Lord of the Rings MAY be the common factor here.

Awesome thanks OP just bought a copy. Only just a few days ago I was one click away from buying this! Very lucky I didn't pull the trigger lol.

  • +1

Wonder if it will come down more

  • +2

obviously the first round of die hards have purchased and then price drop for the second round…..as is always the way the longer you wait the cheaper it will be…..I would be surprised if it was not under 30 pound come christmas.

How desperate are you to see it?

    • -1

That's why I would rather buy the LOTR together with all the six Star War blu ray movies when tha latter is released on Sep 11. Price for both sets now is 112.48 pounds and will certainly be cheaper after the release date.

  • I'd hate to think of how much I've spent on these movies…twice at the cinema x 3 (for each film) + probably once at gold class x 3 + the standard edition x 3 + extended edition x 3….at least I didnt bother buying the standard bluray edition…that's something, right?

  • +3

2 sets of these from UK still cheaper than one from JB,

    what.the.f**k.

  • +1

    Sweet price!
Love this movie and got one already:P

  • the price has decreased again from GBP44.99 to GBP37.49 after u input ur address… what a bargain!!! thanks :))

    • +2

That's the dropping of 20% VAT (see calculation in post) that Amazon automatically do when they notice you're one of them smelly foreigners. :)

  • Ok I'm convinced. Bought one today. Please post if there's a good deal for Star Wars.
