Hello fellow bargainers.

I received an email from Citibank today regarding an increased signup bonus on their current Platinum card offer when using a referral link. Referrers get a total of 140,000 bonus points after spending $3000 in the first three months. There is also a reduced annual fee of only $49 for the first twelve months.

NOTE! Referee will receive 30,000 points for every successful applicant that uses a referral link to apply.

    Seems to be 80 + 20 for 1st year ($3k spend), then another 40 when paying 2nd annual fee. Not 140k after 3k spend, please edit OP

    I always find it difficult to find the citi transfer rates to airlines. Can someone link me to it?

        So that is what it says on the referral link 140,000 point for 3K spend. As knobbs pointed out, this card is usually extra 40k when paying 2nd annual fee.
        With a screen print, sure they would have to give you the 140K points. That is $700 flybuy dollars - $49 annual fee = $651 Free so a very good bargain!!

          I think its $49 first year, then $149 for the 2nd, so it should be $198 in fees.

            @futureminime: I don't think you need to keep the card for the second year to get the full 140,000 points. You get that from spending $3000 in 90 days.

              So 100k for $49, 140k for $198?

                That's the terms in the email I received. The link on ozb is a generic sign up link, but if you use a referral, the terms are different.

      Log into citbank account, select Rewards -> Redeem Now -> Travel -> Points Transfer.

      Best to wait for bonus times before transferring.

          I think it's 2:1.minimum 20,000 citi points converts to 10,000 Virgin velocity points.

            @bluedufflecoat: Platinum cardholders: Currently 2.5 Citi reward Points equals 1 Velocity Point. If you transfer 25,000 Citi reward Points you will receive 10,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points and an additional 3,000 bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points.

    I'm not sure about the tiered earn rates, but my understanding is you get 140,000 points with $3000 spend within 90 days. The link on ozb may not be a referral link which has different terms from the referral campaign.

    Do they check to see if you know the referrer? And has anyone had any issues dealing with them and getting their reward points?

    Also, can anyone comment on the linked Diners Club card option? Is it usable wherever Mastercard can be used? I'm heading overseas so I'd like a no international transaction fees card option that will actually work in a lot of places… (South America is where I'm heading to begin with - Peru & possibly Brazil & Chile).

    In a previous post I've read that Citibank rejects applications even when they meet all the requirements and have perfect credit score. Apparently they only accept applications where they expect to make money when the applicant defaults on the payments.

    Anyone got the points after spending 3k within 90 days? I still don't see the points credited and I spent over 3k.

      The annual fee doesn't count. The spend has to be eligible. A good indicator is if you have 3000 rewards points, if you have less the spend was ineligible and you need to spend more.
