Description

American Gangster:

Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe team with director Ridley Scott (Gladiator) in this powerful, epic story. Armed with ruthless, streetwise tactics and a strict sense of honour, crime boss Frank Lucas (Washington) rules Harlem's chaotic drug underworld. When outcast cop Richie Roberts (Crowe) sets out to bring down Lucas's multimillion-dollar empire, it plunges both men into a legendary confrontation.

Green Zone:

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone, a film set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences.

Inglourious Basterds:

In German-occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…

Kick Ass:

The life of Dave Lizewski is one of scarce problems; his day to day actions rarely stray from reading the comic books that he loves oh so much. Dave has a nice life and is content with it until the day he decides to change, he decides to make a difference with his life, he decides to become a Superhero!

Dave’s life suddenly changes when he walks out of his house clad with superhero mask and a decorative baseball bat, the only problem with Dave being a superhero… he has no powers. But like all good comic book readers, this doesn’t matter to Dave; his dream will not be swayed just because he lacks the skills of your everyday superhero.

The Kingdom:

Oscar winners Jamie Foxx (Collateral) and Chris Cooper (Jarhead) team up with Jennifer Garner (Daredevil) and Jason Bateman (Smokin’ Aces) to ignite the screen in this high-intensity action thriller.
A team of elite FBI agents sent to Saudi Arabia to solve a brutal mass murder find themselves in a race against time to find a killer before he strikes again.

Out of their element, under heavy fire and trusting no-one, the team must join forces with their Saudi counterparts. As these unlikely allies begin to unlock the secrets of the crime, the team is led into a heart-stopping, do-or-die confrontation.

Public Enemies:

From visionary director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) comes the film inspired by one of the country’s most captivating and infamous outlaws – John Dillinger.

Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean series) stars as the charismatic and elusive bank robber marked by the FBI as America’s “Public Enemy Number One.” Academy Award® winner* Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) plays Billie Frechette, the only woman capable of capturing his heart. Hunted relentlessly by top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale, The Dark Knight), Dillinger engages in an escalating game of cat and mouse that culminates in an explosive legendary showdown.

Robin Hood:

Academy Award winner Russell Crowe reunites with legendary Gladiator director Ridley Scott for epic action adventure in Robin Hood.

Discover the untold story of the man behind the legend as Robin, a heroic warrior, turns outlaw when he assembles a band of skilled marauders to confront injustice and lead an uprising against a weak and corrupt English King.

The Ultimate Bourne Collection:

The explosive action trilogy that takes you to the edge of your seat and leaves you breathless for more!

Matt Damon is trained assassin Jason Bourne, a single man on a pursuit to uncover the deadly covert conspiracy that stole his identity, robbed him of the love of his life and sent a legion of highly trained killers to eliminate him.

See the entire Bourne trilogy unfold with heart-stopping action, death-defying stunts and incredible white-knuckle excitement.

Back To The Future Trilogy:

  • Guys I made a massive mistake and jumped on this deal. I know it's an awesome price given the amount of goods on offer, but I am in serious desperate need of my 10.85 GBP back right now as my circumstances have just changed. I honestly hope they cancel my order and the transaction doesn't go through so I can keep my money.

^^That's how I'll react if and when they cancel the orders. :D

    • +3

Do you need a loan dude?

    • Don't they not charge your account until they've shipped your order?

EDIT: Nevermind read your post properly

    • +1

if you're that desperate go sell your blu ray player and stop trolling

  • Maybe tomorrow.

  • Looks like the apology / cancellation emails have started rolling out (I haven't yet seen one, but expect to)

    Dear Customer,

Thanks for placing your order with ASDA Entertainment

We are really sorry, but the price shown on site for Ultimate Action Blu-ray Bundle was incorrect. We work hard to ensure that prices shown on site are accurate, but very occasionally errors do occur.

Due to the nature of the error we have had to cancel your order. Please be assured that we have not taken payment for your order. We hope you will consider re-ordering now that the price has been corrected on site.

Please accept this 10% discount code to spend at ASDA Entertainment by way of our apology.

    • :(

    • 10% off is better than nothing I guess, shame the order wasn't honoured.

Meh, it was an honest mistake, hopefully i'll have better luck next time.

  • Both of my orders are now cancelled, with no explanation.

  • Yeah, Status is now Cancelled.

  • my orders just disappeared from my zavvi account

  • no deal

  • same here… my order just disappeared from the hut account…

  • Yup, mine was cancelled too. Not really a surprise though…

  • Yeah my order has disappeared as well. Hope i get my 10% off e-mail too.

  • Orders gone… No email/reasoning. Clearly it was a screw up… but still. At least justify why you are cancelling orders before you do it…

    • +1

check your email? I got an explanation + some discount coupons.

  • my order is still there but marked as cancelled…

Nice way to get thousands of new customer details..

    From their privacy policy:

We may also use your data, or permit selected third parties to use your data, to provide you with information about goods or services which may be of interest to you and we or they may contact you about these by email.

In the event that we sell or buy any business or assets, we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets.

  • -2

This is just a pathetic attempt that companies do to get tonnes of new customers going to their sight and registering. Also we will no doubt all be on the spam list now too. A 10% off code is nothing when they have those codes floating around most of the year anyway.

    • -2

It's called a bait and switch.

      • +1

baiting with a mispriced item and switching it with nothing? i think you misunderstand that term

        • Incon-theive-able!!! ;-)

  • if the above post is true and they are cancelling orders, then ozbargain mods should remove this deal as being the top deal with 300+ votes.

300+ votes for a dud is unfair to others that have posted legitimate deals.

hope you see this scotty or ozpete :)

    • -1

Hopefully the negging should take care of that issue.

    • +1

It's already off the top deals as it is expired

  • The order was canceled just a moment ago =(

    • Their getting ALOT of negative attention of facebook as well - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Zavvi-Customer-Enquiries/18587…

      • +2

        haha LOLZ @ their FB

        keyboard warriors having a go

and they are saying they won't buy from them again

Just remember that Zavvi / The Hut / Asda Entertainment / SendIt / BestBuyEntertainment are all the same company..

        • +1

I'd rather take a cheese grater to my scrotum than be subjected to their utter disrespect for their customers ever again.

LMFAO. Yeah I'm sure he'll change his mind pretty quickly when we hand him the cheese grater and say its either that of spend $10 on something at their store.

Granted they messed up, but they don't deserve some of those comments.

    • +6

Agreed, who REALLY expected them to go ahead with it if it was an error, anyway?

      • Exactly. Considering they're selling them for gbp85, that's a difference of gbp75. say gbp10 as profit that's 65. Now multiply that by the number of sets ordered and that'd be their loss. That's a fair whack of money.

It would've been nice if they had gone through with it. There was always a slim hope. The fact that they didn't, though, is not unfair IMO.

  • -2

A web based company of this size would note if their hit volume fluctuated this much within the space of 10 minutes, but decided to bait people to their website for hours upon hours afterwards.

Ozbargainers beware. expect a neg on every Zavvi deal posted on this website from now on.

oh… and order cancelled… no email.

    • +5

It happened in the middle of the night. Contrary to what some may think, unless there is a major technical issue they probably don't have someone monitoring the server load 24/7. If it goes down whoever is on standby will get a call at 3am but thats the most you would likely expect.

      • -1

A company this size will have people monitoring server loads 24/7. I know this because I have worked in several companies who do this.

        • +8

I work in IT too and unless theres an issue they probably wouldn't flag it at that hour even if they did see it.

It's not like they were experiencing a DOS attack…it was just a large number of legitimate orders. Even if the admin is monitoring the server load at that hour who is to say they are checking the actual orders being made? Thats likely the job of the sales staff that start at 9am the next day and if I was on their IT team unless I was given very specific instructions I'd probably just notify someone the next morning that they had received a lot of orders and they might want to check it. Technically the server was fine so the technicians doing his job…prices is the sales staffs concern.

Its also a bit much to assume the traffic they received was even overly abnormal. We don't (I assume) have figures for their normal traffic or purchase demand made on any other monday evening. While I imagine there was quite a bump here, it wasn't necessarily something that would sound an alarm that would require managers to be called in. It could have been well within their limits.

        • -not worth it, going to take my cynical hat off for the night-

  • 2nd time they have canceled an order on me.
last time was for NBA Jam…

guess ill never get to shop there if they keep cancelling, regardless of there reasoning.

    a deal is a deal!

    • Did they ever give you a reason for the cancelling? Or some sort of coupon as a peace gesture?

    • Same here. My NBA Jam was cancelled as well… Never bought anything from them again ever since…

    • Not everyone got the NBA jam game cancelled, just saying

    • A price error is not a deal.

  • Ouch! @ their rep on HOTUKDEAL

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/reviews/zavvi

    19-42

Scotty should have something like this

If you look at the buttons available one is HotUKDeal, which is cool if Ozb were to go that way

  • +4

Kind of funny to see all the whining going on over on their Facebook page from people that somehow "know" this wasn't an honest mistake and expected it to be honoured. Also find it funny many of them seemed to have an existing grudge against the company but as soon as something was made available at a good (/unrealistic) price they temporarily forgot that and are now surprised by the result.

    Ahh people….

It was worth a shot, what it isnt worth is getting upset over.

  • Not entirely sure whether it was an honest mistake or a promotion to give you a few quid off their websites to entice you to buy stuff. It seems quite well planned out, but maybe I'm just cynical. You be the judge from the email below:

True. Appreciate the post troy, thanks. Sometimes these too good to be true deals don't work but sometimes they do and the deals become legendary. That's the fun of OzBargain. ;)

      • +2

        Don't worry troyww…
simply, you had a good post and now you don't…
personally though, I'd be taking it all with a grain of salt and have a laugh about it.
If i had posted this I'd be telling everyone to remove their positive votes and then we can put this post in the Epic Threads as the biggest swing of positive votes from 315 to zero :P

We are unable to honour this error and have issued everyone with discount vouchers to the value of £15. Regards the Zavvi Team

    • pfft… The emails have disappeared along with everyones orders :P

    • LOL, apparently the discount vouchers are to all their affiliate companies. Not sure whether this is a genius marketing exercise or an attempt to backrupt their entire group using guilt by association.

      • +3

Well they aren't going to offer discount for competitors sites are they?

        • +3

Maybe they should? You might have a better chance of getting your purchase.

"Sorry, we cancelled your mega bargain order. Sucked in! Zavvi officially recommends Amazon UK - they actually have stock and will send stuff to you. And emails too! Anyway, here is our Amazon affiliate link - we will get a commission on your Amazon UK purchases from now on, thanks for your interest in Zavvi!"

  • Yep without this discussion I would have no idea what happened with my order. No email or anything, just a cancelled message

  • +3

troyww thanks for bringing this deal to our attention mate. it could've swung the other way in which case you would have had an entry into ozbargain wiki's hall of fame. Unfortunately, it wasn't so, and you aren't to blame for it. Don't take the negs and revokes personally :)

    • What he said

  • Yep so FINALLY got an email from them… 10% off code for Zavvi and a total of 15 pound woth of codes for a bunch of the other Hut Group sites that I'll probs never go to…
Not that I expected to get the bundle in the first place but they haven't really handled the situation all that well…

  • Just got my email. I'd say they had a few orders and it's quicker to go through the db and cancel them than it is to send out the emails (and for you to receive them).

  • +1

From a marketting standpoint this is pure genius. Offer something enticing which is too good to be true. Dishonour it. Then give a small compensation = TONS of new customers "cashing in" on products they would have never otherwise bought.

    • I'd actually be interested to see how well it works. Personally though, I won't be using any of the codes but I imagine some people will for sure.

    • I'm not sure the utterly massive amount of negative feedback and damage to their reputation would be worth a stunt like this. Some people will probably use the coupons, but a lot more won't and may never shop with them again.

If it was intentional, it wasn't well thought out. They're going to have to hire someone full time for at least a week to continuously delete all the nasty stuff being posted to their facebook pages. Don't think they'll be able to undo the negs on hotukdeals either and other review sites.

Whether it was a genuine mistake or a stunt, it's going to work out the same way for them.

  • +12

    12hrs it took.
    I don't mind.
Just glad to be part of another Ozbargain moment
    See you all next time
    ;)

  • hmmm time wasted for notin.

  • still waiting for my email to explain cancellation, however looking at my order history it has in fact been cancelled :(. i understand the reasoning, but only because I've read it here- not from Zavvi themselves. Poor form.

  • -1

Got my sorry email, not very happy with it though, $10 off would have been half acceptable.

    • -not worth it, going to take my cynical hat off for the night-

    • of course not…. but its not my business :).

  • I wonder if I should cancel my pre-order for Battlefield 3 (PS3) limited edition and try and use the code to get some discount.

    LOL @ 287 +ves

  • +1

    I'm pretty disappointed

  • At the end of the day, I wasn't charged anything and I got 10% off my next purchase.

They have occasional good deals on blurays, so I'll actually save money I would have spent otherwise - as opposed to buying something "just to use up" the voucher.

I wonder how many + votes this would have got if it was called "10% off voucher at Zavvi"?

    • +1

they give out 10% code every 2-3 week….so nothing special mate
