Amazon Deal of the day. Noticed it was $115 cheaper than their last deal on eBay a few months back.

Seems like a good price coming from a local seller and still a bit cheaper than grey import sites (TobyDeals $554, TecoBuy $565, Catch $572, Kogan $716 etc.) from a quick search. It's currently $599.20 on their eBay store after the 20% off code.

Features:

  • Display: 6.39 inch, 1080 x 2340 FHD+ Pixel Screen
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core 2.8GHz
  • MIUI10 ( Android 9 ), Bluetooth:5.0, GPS, A-GPS, Glonass, Beidou
  • Camera: 24.0MP + 2.0MP rear camera + dual 12.0MP front camera

  • Can't really get a case on this can you?

    • Apparently it comes with a slider friendly case.

      FYI, some AliExpress vendor(s) offer Mi Mix 2 - w/ 8 GB RAM & 128 GB for ~492$AU + ~$25 shipping

      ( Sorry (fixed below)… I bought the Mi mAx 3 w/ 6.9" screen )

      I just - this morning - ordered a Mi Max 3 w/ 6 GB, 128 GB, &
[slower] SnapDragon 636 (W/ warranty Return to AU) for:

      • UNDER AU$ 320 (shipped)

My vendor guarantees it'll work w/ an Optus, Telstra or Voda' SIM

(Of course, I have Yet to receive my new phone… I'll Update after I do)

      • It will work with all here but the usual question is which bands it will support. According to gsmarena the Mi Max 3 does not support band 28 (700mhz)

        • +1

Standard models typically won't support band 28 (as their more established markets are China, India, and Europe, which don't need it). Taiwanese models when they're available will have band 28 as Taiwan does use it, but they're harder to find and generally more expensive than Chinese / global models.

edit: all of this is for slightly-older models since they may adjust going forward now that they officially retail in Australia (TIL!).

          • @Bonding0909: Another reason they're starting to use it as Europe is starting to use B28

        • So, what's the advantage of Band 28?

Telstra tell me their network uses:

          3G 850 MHz

          4G:
          . 700 MHz
          . 900 MHz
          . 1800 MHz

          Obsolete: 2100 MHz

          • +3

            @IVI: Telstra's 4G 700MHz can also be called B28. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operato…

Generally lower frequencies means it can travel further, better at penetrating walls.

          • +3

@IVI: B28 is the standard low-frequency, long-range, high-penetration frequency in Aus. You'll need it if you want to go / live bush (or relatively rural) or use your phone inside (thick) buildings, mostly independent of carrier since they all use it.

If you're a city person and rarely venture outside them you'll probably live without it fairly happily but might hit some dead spots inside some buildings. In built-up areas there are faster bands available so it's used as a fallback.

says mi official amazon store ….this should be interesting as xiaomi don’t make devices with AU certified chargers, probably a 3rd party reseller and not a store owned by xiaomi themselves, and after market charger supplied.

  • +6

The specs doesn't look impressive anymore. Mi9 will be a better choice imo

    • +3

I agree. Xiaomi Mi9T looks like the go to xiaomi phone.

      • Do those support qi wireless charging?

        • +2

Nope, no wireless charging on the Mi 9T or Mi 9T Pro. The 9T supports 18w fast charge and the pro supports 27W quick charge 4+

      • How, this has a better processor has it not?

        • Mi 9 has SD855 but the other variants do not.

  • -8

An “Australian” version with no Band 28…?

    • +7

From the specs, it supports B28

  • +1

MIX4 is releasing soon, yeahhhhh xD

  • No dual sim?

  • oled?

    • +1

      Yes

  • +6

Initially I was skeptical if they were the real deal but an email to mi.com confirmed that they're official. So this is a very good price for both local stock and from Xiaomi themselves.

  • Forbidden kingdom version is better..

  • +1

    Says $699 for me

  • +7

Have a Mix 2s and i can safely say it has been the best phone ive owned in a long time. Great battery, great performance and great price with very little compromises just in case anyone is on the fence.

  • And I missed it. Doh.

    • +1

It's back if you still want it :)

  • Was pretty tempted by this but now it's back at $699.

  • +3

    Back on sale!

  • +3

    hmm this or V30+??

    • V30+ IMO but I'm bias as I just got it

      • How are you finding the V30+, still fast and snappy for a 2 year old phone?

  • +1

Looks like its back up. Might be a decent upgrade from my A1 seeing as I don't need a dual sim anymore

  • Can anybody please confirm it supports VoLTE on Telstra?

    • +1

no they released the phone for fun

    • My mi mix 2s is the best phone I've ever had. Running it naked and stock global ROM even. No problems.

  • -4

Hope its down to like $300 next year i want it as a side phone

  • +1

    This or Oppo Reno Z?

  • Mi Mix 4 is about to release next week

  • +1

I'm so tempted to jump on this deal, I've always wanted try out a ceramic phone.

But I'm absolutely loving my s8+, 1.2 years into it's life and only lost 5% capacity

  • Was set on buying this a while back as my next phone, but I've waited so long there are other options for notch-less display (although I think this is still the best option) and have a wide-angle camera as bonus (e.g. Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro)

  • From the specs, I guess it is better than Mi 9T.

    • better than the 9T but not the 9T pro. Although it depends on what features you want. Just pure power though the 9T Pro wins, probably a better camera setup too.

      I would probably go 9T> Mix 3> 9T Pro

  • Hey can some one help me out. I want to buy this phone but I just need three things cleared up #1 dose it have band 28? #2 dose it have nfc? #3 can I put a micro sd card in it? Any help appreciated

    • Thanks mate 128gb probably enough.
