Dell XPS 15 $786, i7-2630QM CPU, 4GB RAM, after 10% Coupon Discount (and No on Call Help)

740

UPDATE: SORRY DUDES! Dell seems to have adjusted the price back to start at $999 instead of $899

Been keeping an eye out for the base model XPS 15 with the quad core i7 for a while.

In previous months it was over $1000, last month it went down to $999, and was tempted to buy as I thought it was EOFY sales.

But it seems to have gone down to $899 this week.

I was googling to find a 10% coupon even for under $1000, and found this:
http://coupon.tjoos.com.au/Coupon-Popup/99309/Dell-Australia…

VHBQS$4MR8081X

(Coupon also exists previously with http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/35257)

And if you take out the on call help, it goes down to $873.

Minus the 10%, it goes down to $786

(people have also reported 15% coupons below, but I'm not sure what organisation you need to belong to in order to use it, or if Dell checks the validity during your purchase)

And if you use MBC, with 7% cashback, it even lowers it down to $731.
(NOTE MBC might not work with coupons, according to a comment below)

I thought that was pretty nifty for an XPS, which is probably built a bit better than the Inspirons.

    "4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 4GB)" - It will be easy to add an extra 4gb RAM to upgrade to 8gb RAM :)

    • +1

Yes, that was my thought too!

Very easy to pick up another 4Gb from the computer shop for less than Dell would be bleeding you for!

  • I even has Office Starter Edition. Pretty cool price

huh?.. er! .. thats more than twice the layered price of the OP's post .. with the same CPU!!

      • +1

i took yanman's post as a rough guide of how much it might cost once you spec it up from the OP's config.

    • Sorry is that for reference/saying your deal is not that good/or saying its better? Because when I picked the middle specced 15" XPS and put in all your specs the total only came to $1,447.27 with the 10% off code.

EDIT: even cheaper when same specs applied to the lowest specced machine - comes to $1,339.72 with 10% off code. Also just noticed you had 3 years warranty upgrade, hadn't included that in my quote but when I did this was still cheaper.

      • Just for reference.

Although when you specced yours up did you add the Full HD B+RGLED screen, and the GT540M?

[edit] guessing you did - I just spec'd one with the 10% off, most of my extras but not HDD or RAM as I wouldn't have bothered getting those - came to only $1260! Nice

If you've got access to Dell's EPP, here's the 15% off code: 2J?$ZDR7S7CM0B

    • +1

Have used in past, not sure how it is now. do you need to log in? and do they check?

EDIT: just like previously, all you gotta do is put in the code. Works a treat. Thanks so much :)

    • Someone corrects me if I am wrong.

With Dell's EPP, you can't combine with the MBC offer.

Say the machine you are buying is $1000,

with 10% code, you get the machine at $900

with MBC, you get $900 x 7% = $63 back minus the $10 annual fee.

With the Dell EPP 15% off code,

you get the machine at $850.

      Barely the same.

The question I am asking is whether you can combine with MBC and Dell EPP or not. Thanks.

      • cannot combine MBC with EPP/NRMA/RACV, only normal coupons

        • So you can combine MBC with 10% off coupon for 17% off?

  • And it has Usb 3.0 ports.

  • You won't get money back AND coupon, it say in T&C at MBC.

Also I made 3 Dell orders in the last month or so and none of them tracked. They also don't accept enquiries for Dell. Plus MBC didn't publish any of my comments about this. I need a better money back site!

    • Thanks for letting me know, I don't use MBC, but people always ping me for not putting in MBC in my posts, so now that I do I get pinged for it again!

Can't keep the masses happy it seems!

  • Have you tried 2J?$ZDR7S7CM0B

    • +1

(see above) yup works a treat takes off 15% and says "Dell EPP 10 Day Sale - 15% Off everything"

      • Thanks - sorry missed your post.

Makes it a very tempting deal…

        • NP. Indeed, especially with upgrade to Full HD for only $198 and Backlit keyboard for $25.

  • Only an extra $198 for the 1920x1080 resolution screen, too!
Definitely a bargain! Would give this 5 votes if I could :P

  • I would buy the 9 cell battery and pay $2.20 for the Windows media for resale on EBAY…

    • I don't quite understand.
If you sell the DVD on ebay, then either the DVD or the window7 on your laptop will become illegal, is that right?
      it's worth something $100 dollars!

      • I think he meant, that if you wanted to sell your laptop on eBay in the future, when you didn't need it any more, people will pay more if it came with the install DVD's, compared to without them.

      • What I meant was that if get the media you can sell it without the licence on EBAY for about $30

Or you can remove the licence sticker from your machine and uninstall the software (replace with Ubuntu or whatever) and sell it with some useless piece of hardware for maybe $60…

Even with Feebays ripoff fees you'll recoup some of your spend…

        • emmmm if that works would be great!
cause I already have professional version from my employer which I am going to install anyway!
but what kinda of hardware are we talking about? I am sure there will be some cable I dont use from my other machines, such as the printer cables, are they fine?
          Cheers,

  • fantastic price!!

However I would prefer a 1080p or higher screen resolution though…dang!

  • great machine the only downside is the keyboard (for me)

  • Info on the videocard.. its not too bad.. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-525M.43889.0.…

  • +1

Imagine how much cheaper it would be without all the bugware?

  • WTF is MBC & EPP, can't anyone use the full term ?

As for the offer, the 15% Coupon works ! BARGAIN SPECS ! BUT UGLY LAPTOP LOOKS ! :(

EDIT: Their Netbook becomes $285 with 15% Coupon, tht could also be a Bargain worth Posting…lol

    • MBC

EPP is for employers, though I don't think Dell always will check if you're an employer.

    • Try it's more attractive cousin, the XPS 15z
      http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-15z/fs

      • I couldn't seem to customise the hardware on the two 15z options.. what's missing? :|

        Shame there's no 17z :)

        • +1

yeah i cant decide between the xps15 and xps15z. As the 15z cant be customised, to make a 15 similar specced ends up costing about $50 more, but you also get a quadcore processor (2630QM vs the 2620 on the 15z) which makes them pretty much on par really. To summarise:

xps15 pros: quad core, more customisable if required, jbl 2.1 speakers.

xps15z pros: marginally lighter and thinner, aluminium shell, better standard battery.

still cant decide though - which do you guys think? I want quad core but I also like the macbook pro looks of the xps15z. ARGH!

  • Nooooo….
If only I had waited a few weeks.
    Technology sucks

  • the specs looks awfully like the $999-$200 Inspiron R15 that was on EOFY sale.
I couldnt find any difference on the specs. can anyone let me know if there is any?
but maybe as op stated XPS has better build?

    • +1

XPS has better build, better speaker (2.1 JBL in XPS). XPS is in different league compared to Inspiron R.

  • anyone know what the CPU fan noise is like on the laptop?

  • Good deal, +1 from me

  • using this coupon 2J?$ZDR7S7CM0B … price is $764.14

  • +2

I would like to purchase this piece of equipment. Unfortunately, my bank account will not allow this to performed.

  • anyone know the weight and dimensions? i cant seem to find it. it looks awfully thick though

    • Dimensions & Weight
      Width: 15" (381mm)
      Height: 1.3" (32.2mm) front /1.5" (38.2mm) back)
      Depth: 10.4" (265.4mm)
      Weight: Starting weight of 5.96lbs (2.70kg)* with 6-cell battery; 6.33lbs (2.87kg)* with 9-cell battery

      • thanks

  • just a shame about the GT525M

    • agree.

      • whats shameful about it - please enlighten? genuine query btw

  • Is this better than the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge?

    • The graphics card is worse Nvidia 5xx (last years model?) versus ATI 6xxx (this years model?). The CPU is better i7 versus i5 - Obviously depends which Lenovo model you are looking at.

Personally i'd take the better graphics and lower CPU.

      • I think we can always find the similar one (price and spec wise). But, brand-wise (durability, warranty, etc), which one do you think is better?

  • Don't forget the MBC discount of 7% is on the GST-exclusive price.

So if the price is $786, the MBC rebate is $786/1.1*0.07 = $50, and the final price of the laptop is $736 (not $731).

    Just to be picky.

    • Can you confirm you can use the MBC 7% with the 10% coupon?

      • +2

I can't confirm anything, but from past experience you can use the MBC 7% with a regular coupon (like the posted 10% coupon).

However, MBC states that you will not receive cashback with an EPP coupon (like the 15% coupon).

The difference in price between using the 10% coupon + 7% MBC, or using the 15% coupon + no MBC is around $5 in favour of the 10% + MBC option.

However Dell's tracking is not always 100% and it might not register the MBC 7%, so I would just use the 15% coupon (and use the MBC link anyway in case it works).

  • got one. i forgot to add a backlit keyboard, is there any way to ring them and change the order? bummer i thought backlit keyboard would be standard with dell

    • yes, go to the page linked below immediately and either call them on the number listed or talk live to the dell rep via online chat. disregard the fact it says "before you order". I have changed my order before this way.

      http://supportapj.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/ap/shar…

      • i called them they said with on-line order you have to cancel the order and reorder it. I checked the website again the prices gon back to 999 and exact same config is now costing me 930 with backlit keyboard rather than 817 I paid. i am not sure if the backlit keyboard is worth that much. what should i do?

        • when would you need a backlit keyboard as opposed to a non-backlit?

  • Just ordered one with the EPP code, lucky I work for a company in the Dell EPP program. Now to explain to the missus why I need to have the latest alienware and XPS laptop at the same time.

  • I just ordered one with the EPP code too. I don't work for a company in the EPP program :-\

    • well cross your fingers the 3,320 clicks on this deal haven't all gone and placed EPP orders in the one day. If they haven't, yours should slide through unnoticed :)

      • Even if they have, Dell would have too much trouble sorting that many orders I hope. If they don't want to give me the extra 5%, they can always stick the laptop up their a**e :)

        • +2

haha oh dear, then hope you didn't order a 17" model. ouch!

  • +1

base price has jumped from $899 to $999

  • Was about to order one, the price is now $899 to $999. Might want to change the title of this post.

  • Sneaky Dell get everyone interested then raise the price :(

Anyone happen to have a saved cart at the old price?

    • does that work? :)
damn yeah I was looking at this, but at $100 dearer, there are other options

    • I think even if you save the price will be adjusted. Dell oh Dell.

      • hey they had the price down for an entire day! gotta give them credit for that.

You can't say they didn't give you a chance to buy it :-P

  • Lucky me - I've managed to order this for $802 (with 15% discount)
    Hope they will honour it…

    • can they dishonour it?

      • They should not

This code is not only for Dell employees

If your workplace got a relationship with Dell (i.e. buy systems from Dell) - you are eligible to use this code (and my workplace falls under this)

Go to http://epp.enfatico.asia/au/ and find out if you are eligible

(Most likely anybody outside this still can use the code…its highly unlikely that Dell will investigate the authenticity of the customer)

  • Lucky enough to have EPP 15% off for all Dell products……;-)

  • My saved cart when from base model + 3 years warranty $909 to $957

    Still a good deal?

  • +4

Dell just lost a sale by upping the price by $100 - was going to order just now but the extra $100 has made me think again…

  • Just received my XPS 15 today and typing on it right now :) Thanks OP

    • do you have any issues with sound when you're multi-tasking?

eg/ Downloading a large file + copying something off an external HDD + playing a video or mp3?

It seems when multiple things are accessing the HDD, it causes any audio to lag/crackle… =(

I called up Dell, they wanted to replace the motherboard…
