    Here we go again

    • +1

This is when you can spend less per item, but overspend overall….

    • +1

Not this again. I got screwed for the airpods even though they confirmed my purchase. Took back on their word and i spend 1 hour on live chat and still no resolution.

  • -1

Not really a great deal considering these has appeared on OzBargain for under $400 numerous times.

    Nevermind didn't realise there was a V2

    • Is there actually a V2?

      • Apparently so, The Good Guys has it listed under two different products:

        • V1 - $449 (+ Bonus $89 eGift Card)
        • V2? - $549
      • +2

There is no 'version 2'. There is a Supersonic Professional edition which is only available to hair salons, technically not for public use but its not hard to find places where you can purchase it.

Some minor changes but for the most part its the same. Longer cable, better filter and different attachments for higher airflow. The motor and heat control system are identical.

Here is a good breakdown of the differences: https://blog.hairexpoaustralia.com/dyson-supersonic-pro-edit…

EDIT: My bad appears there is a version 2, with 4 heat settings instead of 3.

Why can't eBay do proper deals?

100 per hour is crap, especially for ~$100 off I'm sure shopping around would get close to this price anyway without the headache

    • -1

This way people can actually get them for a half decent price instead of ridiculous discount but nobody can get any.

  • +3

$549 current price by them no need for fast fingers : (

    Wont sell out .

  • +30

Hahaha 100 of these each hour… I'm pretty sure won't even sell a 100 during the whole promotion

    • Plot twist, the Fury Road is real, all sell out in 15 seconds, each hour…

  • +5

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/484876

$449 with a $89 Good Guys Gift Card = $360 if you can find a use out of the gift card. Even finding $50 in use out of the $89 gift card is equal to this deal.

    Feels just about neg worthy…

    • I think this is V1. The deal here is for V2.

      • -4

Yeah was just looking into that

        • +1

Same here, but can't find any information on differences.

The Good Guys has it listed under two different products:

          • +7

@RichardL: How could you. The difference is HUGE.

V2 measures the temperature 40 times per second, vs v1 which measures only 20 times per second. Double the frequency.

V2 is redesigned to be better and more powerful to protect your hair better.

            /s

        • +9

          V2 is $439.20 @ Myer eBay FWIW

  • +2

hmmmm this deal blows something fierce

  • +2

Looks like the eBay Plus '100 each hour' is a weekly promotion now.

    Previously:

    • +7

And the value of the discount is getting worse each week too

  • +12

    Even $299 wouldn't sell out .

    Maybe just at $199 .

Totally @ there So Called Promo price points .

    • +4

You'll be surprised, not everyone buys the cheapest product around. Just look at how many people buy iPhones and MacBooks.

  • +2

Far too expensive. Its been cheaper before looking at the deals history. This is on par with the normal 20% off deals that happen regularly on Ebay. Not worth the effort.

    • This is v2.

      • +7

They literally added a 'v2' to the name….. Marketing team: "ADD $200!!!!!!!"

  • At this price, it better dry out my hair in 5 seconds

  • How fast is it?

    • It is very fast. There is noticeable difference between not only how fast this dries your hair, but how much better it feels when it has finished. For sure you pay a pretty penny for the product but it is unquestionably better than your cheapy driers. If you have long hair and use a hair drier regularly they are worth the investment.

Disclaimer: I use a Parlux at home (also $$$) but have used the Dyson in the past.

      • Is it supersonic?

    • +3

Would argue the opposite of Astronaut Joe. AvE did a literal teardown of one, and its interesting but basically the fan is tiny and is located in the handle and it has an overall good design, looks nice and purpley but don't heat any better than a $25 one.

  • +2

100 per hours are getting worse. They should have started with shit deals first to lower expectations lol

  • +12

Bought this for my mom. When she wasn't looking, I used it to dry my dogs and it actually made the job easier and cut the time by a significant amount. I have a floof type doge so normally it takes a solid hour.

Now I am a sheeple with a Dyson supersonic.

    • +2

      googled sheeple.
      +1 for vocabulary

      • +2

It's a portmanteau of the words "sheep" and "people".

        • +15

          google portmanteau.
          +2 for vocabulary.
Thanks Ozbargain. I fail to get anything during the Ebay sales, might as well learn a few new words.

  • Got the Mrs one a few days back from Myer sale, had a freebie included brush set.
Wishes it had a stand instead.

The product is awesome, quick light and fast. You do pay for it tho…

    • -2

You do pay for it tho…

Why couldn't she pay for it?

Wishes it had a stand instead.

Wait, she wasn't even happy with in? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • +2

As someone who has thick curly hair, married to a woman who has long, thick hair that tend to curl at the ends, with kids with varying degrees of curliness in their hair and an ewok for a dog, this is a godsend! Couldn't recommend it more.

    • +4

      That you.. Chewie?!

      • Depending on who you ask, I get likened to "that guy in Hannibal" (Hugh Dancy), "that guy who sings Grace Kelly" (Mika) or if I make the mistake of brushing my curls out, I get "that guy who was on the Muppet show" ( Leo Sayer). Chewie is a new low high? 🤨

  • +5

LOL…… after 2 mins… only 20 were sold. vs 100 gone in seconds in previous deals. : )

and after 11 mins…. only 37 were sold. Hope ebay realises that this is a failure and will drop the price down to $199 instead. :p

    • Not even half is sold after 11 mins

      • +1

        39 sold in 24mins lol

        • 59 sold in 55mins

          • @danawys: 61 in the first hour.

This promotion will be a shambles

    • +3

Hope ebay realises that this is a failure and will drop the price down to $199 instead. :p

If they did that, they'd be sold out in the first 30 seconds, then everyone will be saying their sales are a big scam, eBay Plus is useless, and they're going to report them to the ACCC.

      • +2

Not easy to do business these days. : p

        • +4

I’d prefer it to be this way. That way people aren’t buying $99 airpods to resell straightaway. Only those interested will buy, which I think is a better way to do it (May or may not be better for margins but that’s not my call)

  • +4

~%27 off RRP… Sure, not a bad price if you were in the market for one, but definitely not a buy now think later bargain.

    • Well, with only 175 sold of 600 available, we might see shavershop needing to move another 425 if they had a commitment to buy that many.

If not, 175 @ $400 = $70,000 which might not have been sold without this sale isn't bad.

    • I think this style of sale is much better. Leave it for the people who actually want one to get a decent saving, rather than have everyone snatch them up because “omg, so cheap!”

      • The hourly allotment format implies that demand will exceed supply, otherwise it wouldn't need to be controlled like this. If it's a reasonable price, just put all available units up at once and whoever wants it will buy it. There's no need to ration them out hourly.

  • I'll just stick to my trusty $39 hair dryer… https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/vs-sassoon-salon-pro-2400w-vs…

    Still going strong for years!

  • +1

Maybe they'll realize us Ozbargainers are smart and do a flash sale for $199. Which as my record has shown, I will most definitely miss.

  • Yep was an easy cop. Sure I could bicker about an extra $35 or such but it’s V2 and no hassles, no extra cashback coupons to have to spend on another item etc etc.

That said - The above links describing V1 and V2 don’t seem definitive - it reads that the Professional Salon edition was changed but it’s not clear about the changes made to regular version update

  • Anyone think they will throw in the free brush set? It’s offered with the purchase of this dryer on their website. Lots of other stores offering same promotion…

  • It’s just a hair dyer.. $50 max?

    • +1

It really depends on personal preference. I'm totally satisfied with my 10-year old $40 hair dryer, but someone with long flowing hair might happily pay more for a lighter, quieter hair dryer like this Dyson. I was surprised at how much lighter and quieter it was than my cheapie when I tried an in-store display unit.

      $50 max?

You could ask the same with lots of things, e.g. it's just a phone - $300 max? Meanwhile plenty of people happily buy $1,900 iPhones. :)

      • Eh, that could easily turn into a circular argument. iPhones are expensive? Look at Dyson prices! Dysons are expensive? Look at iPhones! Then the price of everything goes up.

        • +1

Ahh.. my point was that the people who don't mind spending $399 on a hair dryer are the same people who don't mind spending $1900 on a phone. They might see the value in it (better camera, nicer screen, nice in-hand feel, etc), or they really just have a lot of money.

It's all relative.. we might think it's ridiculous, but to a good number of people, $399 or $1900 is pocket change - they could easily buy it as easily as we buy $15 breakfasts at a cafe or $5 coffees. A poor jobless student on the other hand, would think a $15 breakfast and $5 coffee is ridiculous - $5 breakfast, $1 coffee max?

In any case, if everybody only bought the cheapest devices, there would be no incentive for manufacturers to spend money innovating and exploring new ideas.

  • again

  • Thanks OP. My wife swears by them so i got one for my daughter. Great deal if your after one and at least you don't miss out!

  • +3

    lol eBay Plus

  • +1

I am worried they won't even sell 100 throughout the whole day.

    • +2

      why are you worried haha?

      • Yes, you are right. It should be "It will be funny if they don't even sell 100 units throughout the whole day". : p

    • yeah I hope they didn't order 700 of them in advance in anticipation of selling them all.

  • +3

Disappointing, only Fuchsia is available, The black is available but not discounted the same…so much for "equality" in 2019.

  • Without 50% cashback, not so tempted…

  • +2

What a sh&t deal… which genius even figured this would take off LOL

  • -3

Dyson think they deserve Apple premiums to there products but fail to acknowledge the demand and quality hence they have many 50% off sales trying to clear there great products. Which Apple never would !

    • I don't think I've ever seen a 50% off Dyson sale.

  • They should call it the Doodlebug. Oh, wait - this is the V2.

    • Dunno how many WW2 buffs in these parts to pick up on that one.

      • Only if you are British.

  • it's not a good deal for me. Give a pass.

  • +2

    sales are struggling.. 43 sold?

  • +1

I used to wonder what the difference was between a cheapo hair dyer and a more expensive one apart from the price.

Last week I got given a free Babyliss Portofino 6600 (about $130-150) from the free TAFE course I’m taking in Cert II Salon Assistant. My gf says it’s miles better than the cheaper hair dryers and the Philips one she was using.

To be honest I still can’t really tell the difference, apart from in class we call them blow wavers. I know there’s these nozzle things you attach to the end to direct the air more precisely.

I use it for when my favourite track pants or jumper sleeves aren’t quite dry yet from the washing line and I really want to wear it now.

    • +3

Should be it's own bargain on the front page. ' free Babyliss Portofino 6600 (about $130-150) from the free TAFE course in Cert II Salon Assistant'

  • WORTH EVERY LAST CENT OVER TIME!!

Think guys: maybe not for unmarried guys, but for those who are married ALL THE WAITING TO GET READY over your lifespan, this baby saves say 10 mins each day so worth it. Hell get me a backup!

  • When shaver shop sold all models for $350 on eBay not long ago with free stand flash sale they sold out at $400 only the people that rely need one will get one and no free stand I think

    • Again this is the v2 with 4 heat levels and more frequent detection on hair moisture and temperature

The $350 they sold earlier this year was a v1.So it’s a different product.

In conclusion, I do agree that only people that doesn’t have v1 will be interested in this deal

      • They sold all models at $350 with bonus stand and I’m talking mid July

        • Yes I got a set as well during mid July
They didn't start selling v2 yet at the time
So all models that were priced at $350 were v1

  • Almost over, only 129 sold.. shiet deal

  • 129 sold only? Failed deal.

    • +1

Did you think there was a huge market for a $400 hair dryer?

      • I think they need to stop doing hourly deals unless it's sold at a loss. Everyone's doing it now, and their prices are not even justifying the fuss.

        • Yup make it a daily deal.

  • +3

You can't please everyone. If eBay had made it $100 or under like the previous deals, people would have bitched and moaned about how it's a lottery and not a deal.

This is a good deal for people who actually needs it, not for those who want to make a quick profit by flipping it on Gumtree/FB marketplace.

    • -6

Good deal for those that don't understand value lol :)

Most do hence the low sale numbers its really embarrassing for Ebay Plus that obviously a failed promo !

    • Agree but unfortunately it wasnt even their best deal (even though its v2). I think aroubd $300-350 would be a fair price to avoid resellers

  • +1

Yeap raging success with from the 2PM session 42 mins in 7 sold lol .

A lot here are loaded with 18.6% off Ebay cards and even at $325 no where near value :)
