Upgrade Your Ultraviolet Digital Movie Collection to Google Play for Free

2700

Flixster Video is now allowing users to upgrade their UltraViolet movie collection to Google Play copies of the films, pending Flixster’s closure at the end of the year.

If you’re like me you probably have have a large collection of UltaViolet codes that came with your blu-ray and DVD purchases over the last 10 years or so. Until now these were pretty much useless because UltaViolet was largely unsupported in Australia, with the exception of services like Flixster which only offered you the ability to watch these films on your mobile devices, not on your TV. Now you can upgrade these films to Google Play’s far superior service and watch them either through the Google Play apps or YouTube apps (by navigating to ‘purchases’) on pretty much any device from your OLED TV to your Nintendo Switch.
The link will take you to the migration page where you can login to Flixster and transfer any redeemed codes and purchases to Google Play. Note that if a film in your UltaViolet library is not offered by Google Play then these films cannot be transferred at this time.

Had 2 UV movies and 1 of them was already in my Google Play - anyone know if the Google Play codes can be shared?

    • +9

Yep, if you already have the film in your library it will display the code instead of redeeming. You could give that code to somebody else and they could redeem it in their own GP library.

      • +2

I tried migrating my Flixster copy of 300: Rise of an Empire. Google did not display a code but instead added a duplicate copy to my library :-(

Where and when is the Google Play redemption code displayed? I clicked Migrate on Flixster and it opened a new tab on Google Play with this popup:

300: Rise of an Empire Free $14.99
        Promotional Code. Terms and Conditions

        [Add to Library]

(Promotional Code is text and not a clickable link)

Clicked [Add to Library] and it added a duplicate.

        • +1

The code for redeeming can be shared by clicking the Migrate button in Flixster. This will open a new window/tab to Google Play.

Instead of clicking the add to library button it seems you can share either the full URL or the part of the URL after code (eg. the redemption code in the following URL is "XXX": "https://play.google.com/store?code=XXX").

          • @raing3: Appreciate the instruction. I see it now.

    • -4

I'll take your other movie :)

  • +1

Yeah, I tried redeeming "The Expendables 3" and it gave me a code instead, happy to trade it with someone else who has a duplicate movie code

      • +20

        Pipe down, commy!

      • +11

Yeah, share your Google Play movies library with us. Give us your Google login and password now!

      • …because someone might have a movie they don’t want but Nico86 would like?

  • +5

i haven't been able to log in to migrate, there seems to be an error

    • I had to use Edge instead of Chrome for some reason

    • I got heaps of errors. I kept refreshing and changed browsers a couple of times and finally got Interstellar in my Google Play.

      • got some dupes to from I used other offers

        Breaking bad Pilot 1EKSS7BGP2AAJYJFH9ZG5HA

        • +3

"The code you entered has already been redeemed by someone else."

Would have been good if whoever redeemed it posted that they took it but oh well thanks for sharing :)

          • +1

@Andard: Most people using OzBargain don’t even have a commenting account.

I only created one so I could troll.

    • I had the same issue, did a password reset and then it worked okay.

  • Never redeem any code before can I still use it?

Just found that those from roadshow.com.au I can still redeem it and added to Google play.

    But some said expired.

Able to migrate all my movies…thanks OP

  • +3

    One at a time :-(

    • +2

going to take me a while :(

      • +3

I've just finished migrating 47 movies, it did take a while. You'd think there'd be a mass migration button.

Thanks to the OP for posting the migration link I'd been waiting for an email from Flixster on how to do it. Only had two movies that I couldn't migrate Deadpool & Wolf of Wall St.

  • Excellent, I've usually given them away but I'm sure I have some more here.

  • +3

For anyone that used vpn to acces movies anywhere it appears to be doubling up the movies but they are now available for family sharing

    • Same, no idea how to remove them

  • +1

I've got 11 titles in my Flixster Video collection and not a single one is available on Google Play.

  • +4

I redeemed Passengers 2016 and gave me a different movie from 2008

    • You are correct…..Passengers (2008)

There goes my Chris Pratt movie…

    • Yeah that happened with me as well.

    • Me too. I have mixed feelings. I get an extra movie that looks good and I still have my disc version of Passengers 2016 to watch. Yet, I'd still like a digital version for convenience.

Also on the plus side: I had 84 movies and they are all on Google Play, which is pretty good.

      • On a whim I put the code for Passengers 2016 through the Roadshow portal again and it worked, letting me redeem it on Google Play. So now I have the 2008 movie for free and my paid for 2016 movie too. Nice one.

  • +3

    Wow good news indeed.

    Thanks OP

19/192 movies cannot be migrated. I am happy.

    • Yeah thanks OP, 13 out of 14 ain’t bad! Probably more lying around, should’ve made a habit of opening movies when I bought them!

  • starting to see more firefox errors that edge doesn't have… :(

    • Use Brave Browser

  • Will this work with expired codes?
Have a heap of codes but they're "expired"

    • +1

You can try I found some may work.

  • Those with codes that never redeem from difference website you can still try some of mine still work and added to Google Play.

  • +3

I've got a UK google play code for Jurassic World here (movie must have been from UK retailer)

    Jurassic World
    54AAWXQQJACM924N8EHJ2DQ

    Jurassic Park
    QCDJHPUE7QQUARJET57MQY2

    Jurassic Park 2
    M8LG1KGJNE5N4G9D8YCGBDQ

    Jurassic Park 3
    FZ5529YDYAW5H3BAZQADAT4

    • Thanks have it a try.

“This code cannot be redeemed from your country”

      • Yeah, it'll only work for a UK Google Play account. I should have explained it clearer.

        • +1

All good, someone may get some use out of it!

      • Who would have thought. I would suggest the codes were posted to be used by those with a VPN.

        • +1

I have a VPN and I tried it, looks like it must be an actual UK account.

      • +1

All appear to be redeemed by a UK ozbargainer :S

        • +2

Well it was nice of them to say thanks huh? :P

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: Damn dirty poms. This is their 'revenge' for us retaining The Ashes.

    • Also Spider-Man

Nice, I never redeemed a single ultraviolet code as I thought it was useless, this is perfect if I can redeem some of my unused codes.

  • I think I have them all in Movies Anywhere already so not sure there is not advantage for me. Good post though.

Looks like all the Flixster ones are HD, wonder if any translate into higher resolutions in Google? Wishful thinking I am sure.

  • Ultraviolet and Flixster are shutting down and even though they are migrating over to Google, it won't support all titles you have in the library.

  • Got the entire Bond collection, but apparently its not able to migrate, comes up with 'Title not available in Google Play' and doesn't give an option for code

    • ouch…..

    • Try a few times, I had the same error with Creed and it ended up working.

  • +4

I bought some DVDs for kids because it was much cheaper than Google Play, and I figured I didn't have to worry about the annoying DVD since it came with a digital copy. But I never got the ultraviolet to work. What a POS.

But now I regret not buying more cheap kids movies as I was able to migrate all of them! Thank you

  • I keep getting an error saying Flixter Video US has ceased operations.

    • Are you using a VPN? If so, turn it off and navigate to the Australian Flixster site.

      • Nope not using a VPN. Just on Chrome

  • I can't redeem code from Flixter anymore.

  • Speaking of duplicates, I bet that a lot of us have similar movies in our collections. I wonder what's the most unusual movie that someone would care to admit they have redeemed lol

    • "Barbie & Her Sisters in A Pony Tale" is a movie I redeemed via Ultraviolet and now migrate to Google Play.

  • +1

I have lodged the complain with WB….hopefully they do something about it b4 December.

    Problems encountered so far….
    -Passengers 2017 = Passenger 2008
-Hobbit, The: The Desolation of Smaug (Extended Edition) = The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Extended Edition)

    • Had the same problem. Let us know if you get a response!

      • 1st reply :

        Hello XXX,

Thank you for contacting Warner Brothers Digital Support and alerting us to this issue..

We are currently investigating this issue and hope to have a resolution as soon as possible.

We thank you for your patience and understanding while we look into this.

      • 2nd response

        Hi,

Sorry for the delay with your Flixster migration. We have been working on fixing the issues and wanted to update regarding your collection. As you maybe aware, we had some technical issues with small number of titles that could not migrate to Google Play (even though some titles are in Google Play). We have been working hard with others including Google Play to get these issues resolved. Though we don’t have an exact date, we are close to resolving the issues.

We understand you may have concerns especially with Flixster Video shutting down in December. We are confident we will have these issues wrapped up before the shutdown date so you will be able to migrate all available titles to enjoy on Google Play.

At this time, there is no action needed from you except your continued patience. We will email you as soon as the issues have been resolved. At that time, you will be able to return to your locker and complete migration for any remaining available films.

Thank you again for your patience and continued support.

    • Cheers for posting! Looks like I was too late though.

  • -4

can we import torrent movies? Just Checking :)

  • Tho if you own the bluray why would you have needed to watch the digital copy on your tv

    • +1

Convenience + watch on multiple TVs, including ones in kids rooms that might not have a Blu Ray player.

    • +2

I have had some blu rays fail for no reason. , a digital copy is better than nothing . Also good for travel .

  • I wonder with the ultraviolet shutdown , how it will affect the movies anywhere copies to other services

    • +2

If you’re using Movies Anywhere then that transition has already happened. The idea was to have them linked to VUDU, which the transfers to MA. If you already did that then you’re all good.

      • Oh well have a few dupes

  • +3

This upgraded all the SD quality titles in my Flixster library to HD in Google - nice!

    • +1

Some of mine became unrated or director’s cut

  • Speaking of VPNs, this might help some people, or at least a curiosity for idle minds and hands. I noticed that if you use different regions you get different movies.

UK and US are out, since you're asked to use Vudu and Movies Anywhere (which gets all of your movies onto Google Play anyway).

In my meagre collection, I discovered that:

    Australia
    - Shaun of the Dead
    - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    - Lego Movie

    New Zealand
    - As above minus Crouching Tiger

    France
    - Independence Day
    - Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

    Singapore, Hong Kong
    - (Unsupported region)

    So have a play around…

    • Unfortunately you can’t redeem the codes that show for other regions in your AU Google Play account though.

  • +2

I have a heap of codes I never redeemed because the UV website just wouldn't work. Didn't know Flixster existed.
The Flixster website doesn't look like its taking new signups? Is it possible to use the UV codes on Google Play instead?

    • +1

Some of the codes are redeemed on the production company site and will allow you to redeem on google, just did that with one of mine I had floating around

  • +1

Cannot redeem Close Encounters Of The Third Kind as its not on google play for australians.

    • Mine worked fine

      • I have the collector's. Not the normal version, should of specified.

        • Both of my versions migrated. Directors and special edition.

          • +1

@MeagerDollarBucks: I was able to redeem directly on the sony redeem page after several attempts and using a vpn.

  • This not available

    Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans

  • Works, nice

  • +1

Seems my copy of The Martian isn't going to migrate, despite being available on Google Play

  • +2

I don't know why, but I always had two copies of Edge of Tomorrow on my library. One was called Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow, and the other Edge of Tomorrow: Live Die Repeat.

Anyway, Google isn't having any of it and gave me this code for the thing, so have at it, dudes
    YBV6GP8L9N1H8L87J1F4UD5

    • Thank you heaps TheDukeOfNukem, just redeemed it, such a great movie.

    • Yeah I've got the same thing. I think it's because of the whole ordeal they had with changing the name when it was released. Here's my code if anyone wants it: 7ZAVJJN16NM12GPVWBWMLE2

      • +4

Gone - geez - I have no problem people getting in before me but a thanks to the poster would be nice AND lets us know it's already redeemed.

        • Probs a non member tbh.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Would be cool to be able to activate member only visible comments for things like that!

  • Ultraviolet, DVD, Flixter…?

    Ahh, you old farts 😂

  • +1

Is there anyway to actually sign up to Flixster?

    • Not anymore. But if you still have codes you can likely redeem them through Google Play anyway through the link on the code slip. This is only for people who have existing UV collections they are looking to upgrade.
