Margaret River was awesome 20 years ago. Now it is the Kuta of WA :)

Busselton is a great starting point for exploring the South-West, and saves the boring 2.5 hour highway drive from Perth.
Between Busselton and Albany is one of the best parts of Australia to visit, so don't spend too much time in the Margaret River tourist traps.

Kuta of WA? I'm not sure what you mean by this statement?

Natural beauty spoiled by over-development and package-tourists.

On the other hand it now has full-size supermarkets, and better restaurants. But if you want those, you can stay in Melbourne :-)
I think I preferred Kuta without the air-conditioned restaurants and shopping malls.
Both are nicer places to live now, but less charming to visit.

I think if you visit Margs for the town you'll be dissapointed for sure but most of what makes the region so great is pretty intact I think. Yes more tourists but that's the same from the Cinque Terra to the streets of Tokyo and even the hard to reach SW of WA. If you get out to the beaches and the vineyards I don't think they are crowded, sharks help with that :) Mountain Bike trails there are great now. Breweries and distilleries for those who are not partial to grapes. In my opinion the whole South West is one of the greatest places on the planet, although I must confess I wouldn't mind if it didn't get much more developed than it is now.

Lol - remember that you're a tourist when you go there. So you're complaining about yourself. Just don't go, problem solved.

@CocaKoala: Aside from the awfully bad logic, you are missing the point.
The answer is to use local businesses, and stay outside of Kuta.

the latest bad thing is "zero dollar" package tourists from China.
            https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-12-02/how-chinese-tourists-…

By the way Margaret River has a new bypass road, so the traffic problems should be eased.

@bargaino: Jeez that zero dollar Chinese tour thing sounds f$#_g awful on so many levels.

  • How are you going to get around when you land in Busso with no car?

    • +7

It's a country town - they have horses.

    • No one actually lives in Busselton, it's just an airport. There are no hire car companies anywhere to be found unfortunately. We are a little backwards here in the Southwest :)

There are no hire car companies

Yet. They’ll turn up when Jetstar fly there.

Theres a hertz, avis and so many other car rental companies… 1st hit on google.

I can’t work out whether you’re taking the piss or you didn’t realise Assclown was taking the piss!

You can take bus ( Southwest coachlines) to Perth, costs about $65 per person.

      • +1

ozbargain way is taking the TransWA bus from Bussleton to Mandurah and using the transWA ticket to take the train to anywhere in perth for free. $27.95 per person

I predict this route will be cancelled after 6 months.

    • +2

Nah, They’ll make money. Money from in flight purchases & freight, just like they do on most routes.
They probably pay bugger-all airport fees and the local tourist industry & govt will subsidies them too.

If they keep the rtn fare below $300, then there’s a good market of matured pissheads in Melb who want to ditch the grown up kids and like to do drives, winery tours & stay in quaint (overpriced) B&Bs.

Busso gonna be mad as hell they are being referred to as Margs again. Much like the plan for the cruise ships to dock at Busselton Jetty, but the tourists to be told it was Margs and be bussed there and back without spending a dime in Busso

  • Better than Perth.

    Damn straight!

  • did road trip with mates 10 years ago. decent place, better than metro concrete jungle.

worth a visit for this ticket price.

  • Can you rent a car in Busselton? No Birds???

  • According to the Jetstar website, these promo fares are now sold out.
