  • Seems pretty beefy, nice find OP.

Reviews all seem positive, latest 9th gen.

    • I'm looking for sub$900

      • +1

        ok

      • +1

You can find plenty of laptops sub 900, just not with this spec. If you use Ebay gcards, youd get roughly 250 off this price. And if your flying, another 160 off with trs….

        • Can I buy discounted eBay GC?

          • +1

@capslock janitor: Check the forums. Put up a wanted advert. Should he able to get minimum 10% off.

            • @Robc: Is that how it usually works for the 250 off

              • +1

@capslock janitor: If you had bought gift cards from a recent deal, you would have had 18% off. Buying them on the forums will normally give you a 10% discount…

  • +1

I've found that the stock is from China

How do you find this info and how long is the delivery?

    • +3

I ordered one and it came from China. Delivery about 2weeks but could vary

    • I got mine within 4 days and I'm in rural SA.

      • +1

        How long ago was that?

When I ordered mine on 24th September, this configuration was OOS on Lenovo Aus website and chat support confirmed this. The tracking showed sent from China and is due for delivery this week coming.

        • Last time it was at this price? 1-2months ago

    • +3

Currently we dont have local stock, so we will get it delivered directly to you from plant. ETA around 2 weeks

      • Can we pay for express shipping?

  • battery isn't too big, but hell that's a great configuration anyway

    • The Dell has a beefier GPU. If your primary usage is Gaming go the Dell.

      • +11

Nah. The difference between a 1660 ti and 2060 is minimal. The dell throttles badly and probably would be slower. This has the better CPU and thermals and that would make a bigger difference

    • +10

Way bigger SSD, way more RAM, more powerful CPU in this. Better graphics card in the other one but only by between 5-10% (roughly 5fps in the biggest difference). I'd go for this, biggest deal breaker is that the screen is only 60HZ but otherwise it's great value for money.

      • +1

Reviews seem to suggest the major advantage of the 2060 is raytracing… which not many games support, and I honestly doubt you'll notice on a 15" screen. The 1660 also uses a bit less power, could be an advantage in laptop format.

        I'm thinking this on balance.

        • +2

Raytracing is really only for the high end cards anyway, you aren't going to get good raytracing performance from these low end rtx cards so i'd say that's a non-issue.

        • +1

Another thing to note is that since the GPU consumes less power it will run cooler so it's less likely to thermal throttle

      • If i connect this laptop to a 144hz monitor then will it support gaming at 144hz??

        • +1

Yes, as long as you get the necessary FPS.

    • Depends on what you want the laptop for.

    • Kinda disappointing that that one doesn't have an IPS screen since most of the better spec business laptops do these days.

      • Are you saying the vostro 15 7000 does not have an IPS panel?

        • +2

it has ips panel, i have the inspiron version of this

          • @dreameater: It is hard to believe at these prices but Dell used a TN panel

        • Ah they called it "wide viewing angle display" sorry I only glanced through the specs and just saw it referred to as LED with no mention of IPS. I guess it is IPS after all, I thought it was a bit weird for a newish model in their business line to not have one.

          • @Agret: It turns out it is really a TN panel after enquiry with Dell

    • +1

the graphics card is much better on the Lenovo, so if you're a gamer, get the lenovo or the dell g7

if you want a lighter laptop with good battery life and thunderbolt 3, get the vostro

  • +1

better bulid quality ? this or dell g7

    • Up to wut do u want….dell for gaming, this is more comprehensive…i will go for this one

  • +1

Fantastic deal! Very competent price for the specs.

  • The pictures and the info under the listing state RTX, but 1660ti does not do rtx

    • +2

It doesnt come with RTX card

  • It's this gray import or will it have Australian manufacturer warranty?

    • +1

Its not gray import, the store is official Lenovo Australia ebay store.

  • Can you add more HDD to this? Is that hard to upgrade yourself? Thanks.

    • Google says that you can run a 2.5" hard drive in addition to the M.2 SSD but since this particular one doesn't ship with a HDD there's no guarantee the connectors for it & the metal drive bay itself will actually be preset, maybe someone else can confirm. The process looks pretty easy though:
      https://www.windowscentral.com/how-upgrade-hdd-your-lenovo-l…

    • +2

Yes,there is a slot for a 2.5inch drive. Lenovo provided a cable connector in the box. There's a few screws to remove but once done (removes the entire base cover), the hdd is easy to install.

  • +8

I got this from last eBay sale and I love this laptop. Quality build and great performance.

    • Lenovo made great laptop. Got one of Legion series and I love it.

  • Is it possible to upgrade to the 2060 with this deal for extra? Super close to getting this deal just not sure about lack of 120hz screen but I guess for a laptop that doesn't really matter.

    • I don't think you can customize from the eBay Lenovo store.
The Y540 is $1900 and is similar but with 2060
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Legion-Y540-15-/233339618364?nav…

      • Sweet thanks for that! Excluding the specs do you know the difference between the y540 and y7000?

        • The cases look different and I think the y540 doesn't have the red lighting. I heard somewhere that the cooling is different but I couldn't confirm it and not sure which is better in this regard. Check the Lenovo aus website because there are different configurations available.

  • I had the Asus Rog strix i7 GTX1650 before https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/470184

I wonder if this better or Asus

    • I searched for a quite a while before purchasing the Y7000. I think the ASUS laptops have some really good deals in the $1200-$1700 range (with discounts). I have had a screen flicker issue on two Asus laptops and personally didn't want to spend anymore money with them. I'm not saying these current laptops have these issues though.

      • Lenovo to me is still solid build but not sure about gaming.

I did consider to get one before but strix range seems to be better quality build

        • Hex from Good Game uses a Legion Y 530

          • +1

@Laziofogna: And gets paid to use one

            • +1

@muwu: Yeah I did not think about that. I should have since she mentioned the model.

  • This deal has been around for ages and I'm still super tempted, but I'm also yet to see a single review of this model! Every search for the Y7000 turns up a totally different model from overseas.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    • +1

Anything specific you want to know?

I ve had the laptop for 1 mth or so. Build quality is good. I think you can extend the warranty to 3 yrs for $100ish. Can't remember exact price.

Battery life is ok. Abt 2 to 3 hrs on high performance, brightest setting (i find the screen is most usable at nearly its brightest setting). Ability to add a secondary hdd is awesome. The screen can tilt to 180 degrees. Hate the power pack. Its a massive brick. Keyboard is also a fingerprint magnet. But for the price, cant complain.

      • What's the thermal performance like? I heard the similar Y540 gets above 90°C while gaming unless you undervolt the CPU.

        Are the fans noisy?

The keyboard backlight is red, I gather, but are the keys' letters red even when the light is off?

How's the screen? I'm always a bit paranoid about backlight bleed, and even more so about a product that I can only get a replacement sent all the way from China.

        Thanks in advance.

        • +2

I don't game so can't comment on thermal performance. Its not something I monitor. The most intensive programs I use are photoshop/ lightroom and the fan does kick up a notch sometimes but honestly, the hum from my 4 yr old external monitor is louder than the fan on the laptop.

Screen is fine. No backlight bleeding. Tested at 50% brightness.

Keyboard backlight can be turned off, but each key has a "lovely" red border and red lettering so even without the backlight, they kinda stand out like a sore thumb. I've gotten used to it.

My laptop was shipped from MATRAVILLE, NSW and arrived via DHL 2 days later in Melb. I am guessing they ran out of stock locally.

P.S. I've checked again and battery goes for almost 3hrs on max brightness and performance.

          • @jj1: Thanks very much!

All sounds positive apart from the red keys, but considering this is significantly cheaper than most other laptops with similar specs, it's probably worth the compromise.

            • @star chasm: The Y540 comes in the same spec for $1661 on Lenovo eBay atm. It doesn't have the red keys.

I would prefer not to have the red keys, but figured I'd get used to them and didn't want to spend the extra money on the Y540

      • +1

You can, I think, buy a smaller power brick, the 60 or 90w ones, for travelling. Ones designed for t or e series are small and light. The one that comes with this is 140w. It charges slow, but if you are travelling, you are less likely to use its full performance.

  • How heavy is this?

  • The price just gone up to $1,799 when I click on the link :(

    • Apply code POLLEN20 at checkout

  • I gather it can support 2 drives but is there a limit to the drive sizes (using both a NVME PCIE & SATA SSD)?

  • I bought this last month at $1499 too. It came from China by air DHL so it only took for one week.
It is pretty good but some games still work in a window mode instead of full screen mode.
I tried to find it to fix but I couldn't.

    • +1

Hold AlT and press Enter to make most games toggle between window and full screen. Also go into the NVIDIA control panel and make sure the display scaling is set to scale the picture rather than display it natively.

      • yes. I tried this before but it still doesn't work. anyway thank you for your kind comment.

  • This code can't be applied to your order.

    🤔😥

  • Wait, why is it $2400 now? I was just about to purchase… just my luck…

    • Try again please

      • Oh yessssss!

      • @LoveOnBoi

Do they come with 1x 16GB RAM or 2x 8GB of RAM?

        • +2

          2x 8GB DDR4-2666

          • @Nuclearvodka: Bugger, thanks, was hoping to upgrade to 32gb to run virtual machines.

  • +2

Original price has been changed to $2699. Only $2399 after POLLEN20 now. Looks like Mr. Jack is working for Lenovo now.

    • +1

It's back to $1799 before discount. I've noticed the price jumps around a bit

  • this is an old model now will look for a better deal on the Lenovo Y540

    • +2

It's got a 9th gen core i7 chip in it and it's getting shipped directly from the factory. The possibility of a newer model than this seems incredibly improbable.

  • Deal is not expired.
    Price is back at $1799

  • How long will the shipping be if I bought it on the 10th of October?

  • How are the machines?
    Mine is coming tomorrow Monday!
