    Ordered. Thanks ALDI

I wonder if any of the batteries in my other power tools will work with this.

Has anyone used another battery in an Ozito device?

    • +2

no, you can only use this power tool with AA eneloops

    • Plenty of adapters on eBay but haven't seen anyone selling one to adapt to Ozito. Only from. I'm sure there's an obvious explanation…

  • +1

I know it shows it in the picture, but I can see no reference on the Bunnings website. Does anybody know if this comes with a blade?

Also can a better deal be had for the standard charger plus a 4AH battery for $59 from Bunnings?

  • Should I get the 4ah for $39 or 5.2ah Ultra for $99 battery for this skin?

    • +4

I would think the 4ah is a way better deal - you can get 2x for less than the 5.2ah if you think you need the extra runtime, plus the tool itself will be slightly lighter weight with the 4ah.

    • +3

Unfortunately these do not work well with the standard batteries, they are designed for the ultra batteries. I ended up taking the one I purchased back as it was lacking in power when using any of the standard batteries I had (tried 3 batteries).

      • +2

Did you also try it with ultra battery for the comparation?

      • +3

No, they work just fine with normal batteries. (4Ah in my case). As I said, a decent blade makes a world of a difference.

    • I agree with gadget above, these work perfectly fine with the 4Ah. I have an 'Ultra' (5.2Ah) and I'm still not convinced it's worthwhile especially when you can get TWO 4Ah batteries (when on sale) and still be $20 in front!

      • I think it's just a me too thing with Ryobi and others. Ozito really don't have tools that require such a high current draw.

        • +2

I'm not convinced the cells in the 5.2Ah battery even allow for higher current draw anyway but being a 5.2Ah battery it does last a bit longer. Definitely not worth the $99 price tag IMO but may be handy for those with a trimmer and mower who may not be able to do the whole yard with both tools using two 4Ah batteries. Still far better to buy 2x 4Ah batteries instead of a single 5.2Ah in my book.

    • $40 for a 4Ah is historically not that good a deal. But I suppose it'd be Aldi that will drop it below $40 to clear stock at certain stores rather than Bunnings with Ozito.

I think I paid $40 for my Ozito 4Ah back in the day so I can't really talk lol. But just having the one 3Ah and a 4Ah has been enough for my few Ozito tools.

  • +1

    Normally $79.90

    ie, normally overpriced

    • nah

  • +1

Wonder if they'll match the mower.

  • +2

This will go well with the hammer drill set I bought the last time Bunnings had a price match with Aldi. Best.

  • +1

I dont see a post for the 4ah battery drop. May I do the honors? Lol.

    • +1

I posted one earlier this morning but it was removed as it was a dupe.

Saw is underpowered, mine struggles with 150 x 25mm 3.6M Rough Sawn Treated Pine. Love ozito but some of there tools are not good enough.

    • Blade is crap. I can cut through 90x45 no problem with a decent blade. How long you can keep cutting, not sure.

  • I've still got the first version which definitely sounds underpowered, and no dust port. I'd probably upgrade it if it wasn't for the fact I've barely used it recently, so I'll just make do with it the few times I do use it.

    • … and the bearings on the 165mm are SO much better than the original 150mm. That alone is worth the upgrade IMO.

      • I haven't opened mine to check the bearings, but there is a significant side to side "play" in the blade right from the box.
At thirst I though it might be a only the demo tool, but a couple I took out of the box all had the same ugly side to side play in the blade.

Makes me wonder how bad was the previous model.

  • I already got a couple of 2ah batteries, do I need to buy the 4ah one for this saw?

    • +1

I managed to cut 1.6mm thick pine using 1.5ah batteries. But it got stuck half-way thru ripping it. I suspect it was the blade that came with it. Should've used 40T blade as mentioned in other comments.

      • +3

        are you cutting popsicle sticks???

        • Oops! I meant 16mm thick :D

  • +1

I'm really not sure what people use these for.. I've got one and it's pretty much failed to get through anything.. maybe some thin plywood but mine is just gathering dust now as it's next to useless

    • Sounds like it's faulty! I've managed to cut through 115 year old 75x50mm hardwood studs with mine and sure, not like a hot knife through butter but definitely not struggling either. Have done many of those cuts one after another too without any issues and without major battery drain either.

      • Wow yeah there's absolutely no chance mine would get through hardwood studs.. I literally could barely get it to go through some MGP10.. painful to use and just assumed they were no good

        • +2

I don't think your saw is defective. I had a similar poor experience. If you have patience you can get through a brick, but if you are used to corded tools or trade quality cordless then this saw does feel like toy.
90x45 Cross cut is not an issue, but if you need to rip something lengthwise…..,
Ultra battery and extra thin brand name blade would make it easier.

Went to see the Aldi saw and I think its pretty much same. Although Aldi saw had less wobble in the blade!

All in all both are great at the current price if you only use it once a month.

  • Power saw is hungry on the juice 2 batteries with fast charge 80 mins per battery would be bare minimum without going to 240v if you had a lot of cutting to do.
If it was me I'd buy this too 2x 4 Amp batteries $80 twin fast charge @75 mins $56.50 means you got the blower for $13.50

    • 2 x 3amp

I made an Ozito to Ryobi battery adapter and also converted the Dyson V6 stick vac to use Ozito batteries so they're good value for me at $40.

    • This saw though.. tempting. Might have to connect two 4ah batteries in series.

      • you are going to run the saw on 36V ????

    • "converted the Dyson V6 stick vac to use Ozito batteries" any guide/video to do this?

  • Does anyone know whether the 3Ah, 4Ah, and 5.2Ah batteries are the same height? There's only a ~9mm clearance to the base plate using a 3Ah battery. They appear to be the same on the Ozito site, but there's no measurements listed to know for sure.

    • +1

Should be the same as they all use 18650 cells, same physical size with differing capacities. The single height batteries use 5 cells in series, the double height batteries use 10 cells.

    • +2

Hey Redpen. The 5.2Ah batteries are slightly larger than the 4.0Ah but only by about 5mm so they fit in the 165mm saw with plenty of room to spare. As aXit says, the cells inside are still 18650s just a higher capacity version but shouldn't add to the size of the pack. I'd say the extra 5mm is probably just for a slightly larger BMS (Battery Management System) PCB. They may have added a bit more breathing space too because the 5.2Ah pack lasts longer than a 4.0Ah so could potentially see higher temps for longer. Dunno but yeah, not much larger so should fit most tools.

        Cool, cheers for that photo.

I so want to get a mitre saw. Hopefully a good deal comes up on it. Or is there one?

    • Price was dropped before but interestingly just checked now and it's not even listed on their site anymore
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/472171

      • It actually shows $79.90 (Price correct as at Sun 20 Oct 2019 10:01:11pm) for me.

  • I purchased this unit the other day and cut up some pallet timbers just for fun works great
much better then using a jigsaw like the true Oz Bargainer i am

Registered especially to say thanks to this forum. I bought this today along with the Diablo 40T blade somebody recommended here. Really happy so far. Very fast, easy cuts and so quiet compared with other saws I've had in the past - probably because I used the decent blade too. Thanks guys.

  • I missed it. It shows $89.98 now on the website.
