U2412M is cheaper at $406, has LED backlighting and 3 years warranty.

    Edit:
Scratch that, just realised the colour gamut on the U2412M is only 82%.

WTF is the price premium for, IPS panel or because it is 16:10 or both?

    • +3

You obviously havent seen one IRL, I have a 2408 I paid $800 for 3 years ago its still the best LCD I've ever seen in terms of colour, vibrance, viewing angles etc, also has all the inputs you can dream of as well as a USB hub and a multi card reader.

      • +2

of course I haven't. why the hell would I ask if I had seen one, which would mean I would know the normal price of these as well.
…and what's the response time on them monitors.

      • +2

I paid 1500 when they first came out. Then I got another for 800, the 2408.
Best Dell product I have bought. You get what u pay for.

  • Because it's IPS and has the fully adjustable stand, USB, media card reader.

    • Well… no. Because the U2311 is the same and $220.

      You're paying for 16:10.

To the above comment regarding 82% colour gamut, this is better for most people. Most content is designed for the standard colour gamut, so if you actually want it to look as intended, you want a screen with that gamut.

For people doing photo work and the like, you want a wider gamut.

  • I just got one. Offered extended warranty to 3 years for $546 total.

I have the earlier 2407. Intending to turn them both to Portrait and have a poor mans 30" (2400 x 1920).

  • does the 15% coupon work on dell outlet?

    • I asked about the RACT discount - said no further discounts.

I prefer the older 2407/08 to the new IPS panels. the IPS have that grainy look to them I just can't get used to.
Good buying though. If I didn't already have a paif of 2407/08s I'd probably be tempted. Don't they come with a 3 year warranty anymore? My old ones had it standard…

    • +1

Same here. I have 2408/10 combination, and personally I prefer 2408 over 2410 for its warmer colour and built-in CF reader

$546 (delivered to Tas) With the full 3 year warranty. So same price.

I think it is rather expensive without the warranty. to get the warranty back you would have to pay as much as HT has it for everyday. And without the warranty, dell has previously had it cheaper here by quite a bit.

Great monitor for just about everything, except if you require super fast response times for gaming.

Me personally, when I went from a cheapo TN panel to the U2410 I didn't notice a difference in speed when gaming.

16:10's where it's at. Or was at, since the push to 16:9.

Good resale value too, sold off my U2410 for $425 a couple of months ago - upgraded to the U3011.

Also keep in mind there will a U2410 replacement soon.

Damn 'em all for getting rid of 16:10…

  • Wow that's cheap. I remember years ago the 24" Ultrasharp used to be like $700+. Anyway, I have yet to find a display that can compare to my HP's 133% color gamut.

  • I've been really keen on these Ultrasharp IPS monitors for awhile, but I have been wondering - is it worth the price premium for the 24" over the 23"? At the discounted rates, you can basically get two 23" for the price of a 24".

I know it's a slighty better size and a better ratio, (16:9 vs 16:10) but is there any other big difference between the two ultrasharp models?

    • +1

I dont think there's any diff other than size/resolution in the ultrasharps.

Depending on what youre doing with it… if you don't need 16:10, HT's price on the U2311H is cheap as.

3 of those makes a great (and not too expensive) eyefinity setup for gaming.

Or two if you're one of those dual-screen-desktop kinda people.

If you only want one screen, then a higher resolution one may be the best option for you. Personally I'd be happy with the U2311 for that too, but there are plenty who will push 16:10 instead.

      • U2410 has wide gamut, U2311H has sRGB
