Cash rewards doesn’t always register my purchases. Bit annoying. YMMV but that’s my experience.

    • +32

Same. I got tired of having to constantly submit claims for missing cashback with Cashrewards so I signed up with ShopBack to see if they are any better. I've done 34 purchases through them and so far every single one has tracked. Most of them in under 5 minutes.

      • +11

They use the same technology to track though (same affiliate networks etc.)

        • I’ve heard this many times, so explain why SB tracks better then?

          • +10

            @UberIsCool: Confirmation Bias

Do you have empirical evidence that Shopback tracks better - impossible given how many factors exist in online shopping - plenty of people in the forums suggest CR track better.

idk - I use both, have had issues before with both and have claimed with both (and had claims rejected by both). Maybe you use the extension for one and not the other?

            • @blighst: No extension. Most of my purchases are on my iPhone app. TA does a great job chasing up issues but my last very large cashback got knocked back by Groupon apparently with a lame excuse from Groupon yet my other Shopback ones bought same process all got approved

          • +4

@UberIsCool: Basically when you click through Cashrewards it goes through an affiliate network that uses a cookie to track your purchase and once tracked/approved by affiliate network and merchant, CR get paid… and finally you get paid your cashback.

Reasons why this won't work? Having browser extensions and/or an anti-virus that blocks ads, cookies, scripts or tracking. Another reason is clicking out onto other tabs/windows/applications causes the browser session to cease and it drops the cookie resulting in no tracking. It's also important to be mindful that some websites (like Amazon) will not track the purchase if you already have items in your cart before clicking through.

I always ensure that after clicking through I search for the product, add to cart, checkout and pay. Without clicking anywhere else.

For Groupon they use the same affiliate network for everyone, so if it worked for SB and not CR then you've done something wrong somewhere.

            • @Clear: “ I always ensure that after clicking through I search for the product, add to cart, checkout and pay. Without clicking anywhere else”

Yep, I also do this every time.

          • @UberIsCool: confirmation bias?

          • +2

@UberIsCool: Shoe was on the other foot not long ago when the same complaints were about shopback, actually even worse, I've gone through CR 100s of times maybe more and have had 1 fail, which I asked their team to check out, it didn't eventuate but they tried to help all the way, as clear mentions by now we all should know what works well and what doesn't, this stuff ain't new and CR has been a staple here on OzB for a long time… If shop back is your preference that's great too but because CR was so popular I think the deals SB do are to gain more footing in the market… Which is fair enough and good for us… :)

      • Funny, I have the same issues but reversed. Cashrewards works for me everytime, but not always with SB

    • +9

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for posting your experience with CR. I’ve had nothing but issues in recent purchases with them,

I even had a cashback deal through Amaysim posted on here declined due to there apparently being no deal on what I signed up to, after some bank-and-forths it went pending again….and still I wait!

      • +9

I counted at least 4 different edits to that comment and it was originally bagging out CR/TA as Bellpop usually does (and has been banned for previously), but hey we're all allowed to have an opinion here!

        • +1

Fair enough, I only saw the comment there now. I guess it’s warranted to bag a company out if they can’t do what they’re advertising though, provided it’s done in a constructive and sensible manner.

        • Thought I recognised his/her username.

    • +1

Must be doing it wrong, only had one not work for me, which support fixed for me

    • CR has been great and consistent for me. That said, great for consumers to have competitor such as ShopBack around.

    • Do you use any Adblock stuff on your browser? Usually the case that is blocking it. I complained about this before and they asked me to install their client software which I just don't trust not to spy.

    • Apologies, corrected :)

Same old price jacking at Chemist Warehouse.

Search drop down showed $14.69, clicked into product page and price updated to $17.99:
    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/49408/QV-Face-Night-…

    • +20

But there are some real bargains in there.

Like this one on page 1 of the “Clearance” section.
      https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/91589/rimmel-eyeline…

      Don’t pay $4.00
      Now: $0.01 Off RRP
      Only $3.99!

    • +4

Chemist warehouse changes their prices all the time, to say they are price jacking because of a third party promotion that is not funded by them is ridiculous.

    • I don't think it's actual price jacking - it's just how fluid their pricing is. I've seen some items which I buy regularly fluctuate quite significantly depending on what others in the market are doing (often it's Amazon, or if there's an expo or event on eg baby fair). There was once a time where I would just always assume CW was cheapest and buy from there by default but I've learnt my lesson to always compare.

      • I find that generally now SB has a better base rate if there aren’t ongoing deals.

    • In my experience every time there's a sitewide coupon/free shipping/increased cashback, all the items I buy regularly change to a higher price.

It's been a long time since I've shopped Chemist Warehouse during a promo. I buy at "normal" prices and it works out cheaper.

If that's not price jacking then I must be ridiculous.

My Agoda booking was not tracked but my Expedia booking was.

Its harder to find the section to submit claims now too. They have hidden it somewhere.

    • +1

Easiest way is via your click (after 7 days). Else, here.

Please note these terms for Agoda. We find a lot of members click out via third party newsletters, which then attributes the sale elsewhere:

Use of any coupons and/or incentive offers/links (including Amex/Mastercard/Visa discounts) will invalidate any cashback and/or any cashback claims, including our cashback guarantee, unless specifically listed on this site.

      • Will do! To be fair its only been 5 days but with Expedia i received my tracking email in about an hour.

      • +1

Does that even include agoda cash o_O

        • This is the big question.
Agoda cash is on about 95% of hotels for Melbourne and is likely the same for other capital cities.
Many hotels also have a supposed "automatic coupon" applied, yet the prices are the same as the normal price of other booking websites even with the automatic coupon and these bookings likely 100% do not qualify.

If there is no offer on agoda cash back hotels then this cashback offer has really been made in bad faith since almost all bookings will not qualify.

Cash rewards should also take more responsibility and be transparent on exactly what type of bookings are eligible.

c'mon TA, can't you do better with Chemist Warehouse. 7% seems like a low blow after 100% from your competitor

    • -4

And lose a heap of money like SB did causing them to pull out early?

      • +4

        That's what she said….

      • -1

        Yes

      • +1

assuming 75% of the clicks through ordered, i'd guesstimate it cost them ~$50,000 to $100,000 for the promo (however, likely less with chemist warehouse subsidies + access to cost price)

        • +1

Yeah ~50k to ~100k is quite a large loss considering the affiliate rate they get paid is very very low.

    • Chemist Warehouse cashback will be back to 1% by 3PM eastern time :) .

  • Cant link my mastercard for in store cashback, after typing in my card details and refreshing the page it says "You have no linked cards"

    • +5

Appears to be a cache issue. Please log out and then back into your Cashrewards account and try again. It will generate a new token that should fix the issue. Failing that, please try an incognito tab. Let us know how you go.

      • +3

        That worked, thanks! :)

        • Awesome. Enjoy :)

Careful of the Agoda price jack when using cash back sites

    • This seems to be an issue with some travel-type websites. I experienced something similar (not with Agoda, but another site) when booking some travel recently.

    • +2

I was trying to book for a place, checked the cashback, amex, mastercard page and they all ended up being more expensive than their normal page.

  • +1

Took advantage of the Rebel cashback, thanks!

  • Just bought $200 worth of perfumes from CWH physical store.

Cashrewards has saved me thousands and IF there has ever been an issue TA has resolved it swiftly. So much unnecessary hate amongst the forum for someone that puts an immense about of effort to help out!!!

    • +2

Agreed, not many businesses provide round the clock support with such prompt service.

  • +1

Still waiting for a cash back from Spotlight in May that was supposed to be settled in August from Cash Rewards. Have never had the same issue with ShopBack.

    • +7

Yep, totally aware of Spotlight. We’ve not received a cent from them in months which is why we removed them from site. You’re not the only one affected and we will have this resolved soon. All I can do is apologise for the inconvenience.

      • +3

        Thank you for the update.

        • +3

Not a problem at all. Just let me clarify that they’ve not yet approved the transactions either, and we’re pushing hard via their agency for action. It’s simply not good enough and makes us look like the bad guys. We have emails dating back to early August to have this resolved.

          • @tightarse: Is this problem specific to Spotlight stores or the Spotlight Group which owns Anaconda stores? I have just purchased from Anaconda in the past hour through CR, because of today's stunt pulled by CW & SB. Just wanted to know what to expect, it matters little to me if the cashback doesn't happen.

            • +1

@alvian: Hey alvian, long time no see :)

Anaconda is fine. Can see plenty of approved transactions actioned within the promised time frames.

              • +1

@tightarse: I have always been here, only that there wasn't a need to comment or interact until now. Which also means there was nothing to correct in your posts :-)

Catch up with you later, perhaps at an OzB birthday meet in November?

  • i want to add that CR has been nth but great for me for tracking purchases .. haven’t cashed out.. i’ve accumulated almost $100 .. wonder who has the most so far.

    • I concur - I just cashed out about $200 last week and got paid to my bank account in a few days time. Cashrewards has been a pretty good experience. I obviously had a few missed ones, but they were added promptly by customer service. Love your work guys - Thanks TA!

  • +1

Great deal TA. Also just linked my credit cards which is so easy now with the app.

    • Geo-tracking coming soon to a store near you :)

  • CR has been near flawless while SB has tens of old pending transactions…

  • Does the cashrewards app work connecting onto say agoda app?

    • Not for me

    • Hi freestyle16. No. There’s only a handful of stores right now that allow app-to-app tracking. Groupon, Amazon (recently added), Hotels.com. The Cashrewards app actually warns you that tracking will be lost if a store attempts to open its app when it’s not eligible. Hope this helps.

  • +1

Whilst SB has some better headline rates (at least recently) and support for eBay, CR has a much better track record and support experience. It's fun to try both every now and then but at least with CR (again, in my experience) you know it'll work out… and I've even had a few personalised email dialogues with Andrew Clarke as well!

  • +1

Thanks TA. Put an order through Chemist Warehouse thanks to the generous 6% cashback :)

  • Any chance of increased cashback with Amazon in the near future? I have books, dvds & other items I am interested in getting but am waiting for a larger cashback. ta

  • How does the cashback work if payment isnt immidiately made. E.g. some venues booked with Agoda require full payment at the hotel on the checkin date.

  • Hey TA,

If I only use my Visa debit card with the savings option, is there any point in registering for the program?

I've never used the "credit/cheque" option when paying eftpos so I don't know how they work.

    • You will receive cashback if:

      • you select credit or the paywave option to complete your transaction.

      You won't receive cashback if:

      • you select cheque or savings or use eftpos at the point of sale.
      • an order is cancelled, changed or returned.
  • How does it distinguish between online and in-store

I know it's limited at the moment with the stores it has but just checking on the above as if it was online, could you stack with shopback and get two cash back offers?

Assuming it's a no but worth a try

  • +1

Just booked Bali accommodation, tracked within minutes $300 cash back …beautiful

    • +1

      Safe travels :)

    • Who did you use please?

  • +2

With AGODA there is a coupon which is automatically applied, is this considered to be a coupon which will make the cashback invalid?

    • +1

I've had this happen to me a couple of times. It's not even really a voucher, but it does invalidate the cashback. It's such a rort. I've these messages:

Limited time offer. Rate includes 25% discount!
Early Booking Saver. Rate includes 20% discount!

I haven't entered any promo code…. and the price is the same as what is originally displayed. But they do not track on cashrewards. It's sort of like agoda is getting the referral and then refusing to pay a commission to cashrewards and justifying it by applying a sneaking "promo" which isn't really a promo.

      • Made a $1400 purchase and CR Have rejected it due to some type of automatic discount that was applied.
@tightarse was amazing at following up for me. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/27551

I really was a CR advocate but now not so sure if I am anymore

  • What happens if we link the same Mastercard that is also linked to similar programs, and that other program has an in store offer at the same store? For example, I already have mine linked with Qantas. They also have in-store offer at Mrs. Fields (chosen at random as the first store I found with in-store offer at both). If I make a purchase there, will both programs work? Not looking to double-dip but want to at least make sure I'm getting the best offer.
