am a big fan of eneloop batteries, ordered one for the charger.

  • I am after a charger for home use and not for travel and saw this today on DSE site, wondering whether this is better or the Eveready value charger $15 at Officeworks is better.

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pow…

Also it said online only wondering whether can get it the same price in store.

The Eneloop batteries themselves will be far superior, i'd go for them.

    • +1

      The eneloops, hands down.
The eveready are ordinary rechargeables. The eneloops are Low Self Discharge rechargables.

    • Superforever>> " wondering whether this is better "
Do not even consider any other rechargeable.
Been using eneloops in my camera for over 6 months now and still have not had to recharge them.
They are the ONLY rechargeable battery!

JumbleJumble still have the 4 x AA Eneloop 1000 Cycle (same batteries) for $18.90 delivered going:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48103

But if you need a USB charger, then the DSE deal is decent.

  • Never heard of Eneloop, so it is from Sanyo. Is it really good?

    • +4

      Yes

    • arguably the best.

    • For what it's worth, Apple sells these batteries (rebranded) along with their chargers.

      • whats the capicity of the battries? also any clue if they are the 1000 or 1500 charges?

        • According to the packaging at the link, 1000

        • Eneloop AA batteries are 2000mAh, both old and new varieties. I'd take these, though, over a typical 2400mAh AA rechargable. The Eneloops keep their charge and capacity for longer, while the regular rechargeables lose capacity after only 4 or 5 charges.

  • Thanks, wondering if I can go to DSE and ask for price match the 4 x AA Eneloop one.

Read some review seems very good.

BTW, can I still use the charger for normal rechargeable battery?

Also with the USB charger can I use the wall charger from my iPad so that I can plug it into the wall power point?

    • The charger should work for any NiMH batteries, yes.

That's an interesting question, check the charger's input current and see if the charger supports 1000mAh over 500mAh (typical computer output).

    • Eneloop chargers aren't the best.
Get the cells and a better charger

      • Can I put Eneloops in a standard NiMH charger?

        • Yes

Been at this price for ages.

  • I'm getting some JSP error, even after using a different browser.

    • I am getting an "Internal Server Error"…

    DUPE, please delete

  • DSE site seems to be down for maintenance for the last hour (2pm-3pm) AEST with no message. Now getting a "We are currently undertaking maintenance on the Dick Smith website to improve your shopping experience. Please try visiting dicksmith.com.au again later."

Just got one from DSE online. Nice travel mate.

However, I think Dick Smith Web site is experiencing hiccups, probably someone pour coke or coffee into the server lol

  • Do they price match online store like JumbleJumble? I want to get the 4 x batteries one.

    • The 4x battery one is out of stock at DSE, might as well order it from JJ.

  • For anyone wanting to know…
We have used Sanyo Eneloop AA's in our 2 cameras (2x aa in each)for the past 6 months and still have NOT charged them and they are still very active. Amazing batteries!
We find the cameras react more livelier with Eneloops as well.
From memory I think they say that they hold 80% of their charge for up to 12 months.
Other rechargeables are lucky to last 2 weeks.
I would not bother using any other rechargeable regardless of price.

  • NOTE…

This is the USB type charger. <<<

Better to get the 240v one IMO.

    • +1

I got both types, as it's nice not to have to carry an extra brick when travelling with the laptop or when you already might have a USB-based phone charger.

Also if anyone is thinking of the 240V, be aware that there is a standard/slow version and a fast charge version. Cheers!

      • Is the charge time of the USB charger slower than the 240V?

    • What rate does the USB charger charge at? Will it charge the batteries (I assume these are 2000mah) in roughly 5 hours? Does it turn off the charging automatically? Or is it just a dumb C/10 charger that takes 10-15 hours.

      Edit: Is this relevant? http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod5387.htm

      • According to http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/sanyo_usb_charger.html two cells will take 4.5h to charge.

      • From specs on DSE website:
        Battery Charge Time AA: 1pc - 140 minutes, 2pc - 280 minutes. AAA: 1pc - 60 minutes, 2pc - 120 minutes
Funny that this USB charger is much quicker than the mains charger that I got from Jungle Jumble last week, that takes 16hrs!

  • Good review for the charger here:

    http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/sanyo_usb_charger.html

I ordered one based on that, plus the LSD batteries are good.
