Acer Swift 5 15.6" (i5/8GB/256GB SSD) Windows 10 Home Laptop - Blue - $1278 @ Harvey Norman

50

Been looking for a lightweight 15.6" laptop for my future TAFE course a while now and this just happened to have $320 off as part of HN's 20% off Acer laptop sale. Not the best in terms of specs, but for a big screen featherweight, it's the lightest (0.99kg) in this part of the world.

RAM can be upgraded in the future as confirmed by Harvey Norman.

  • Pretty good if you need the lightweight. I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad E590 i7 8th Gen 8GB RAM, 256GB NVME, RX550, 15.6" FHD for $1169. Expandable to 32gb RAM and a spare sata port for a 2.5" drive. Down side is, I have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery.

This is a great lightweight laptop. Has been $1235 on Amazon less again with cash rewards about 4mths ago. Our first one was a fail as the fan was making a lot of noise on idle. Was a debacle with Amazon as all they could say is they will replace once in stock. It was never restocked. We went to JBHI on a quiet day and just said can they do it for $1235 and they said fine. Second, one-touch wood is working fine.

    • Harvey's the only one who has the 15" swift. We have a JB gift card, didn't know they have them in stock?

      • Non in stock now at JB. Probably the only reason why we managed to get it at the time was that they were run out stock. Amazon themselves never re-stocked. There is another seller on Amazon selling them for $2779 ouch, but free delivery.

So if you want one get it while you can. Only available in 2 stores in Vic.

        • Thanks for that. It's a shame that Hardly Normal has a monopoly on this specific model.

  • This one has more storage and it's an i7, do ya think it's worthy to pay the $300 extra.

    • If you're not downloading a lot of HD video onto your SSD then it's probably not necessary. The i7 is a bit better for games supposedly. We purchased the Swift 5 i5 as a basic work computer. No necessarily fo gaming in in our case.

      • Do you think the laptop could be charged through the USB-C port.?

        • @Kista I am 100% sure you can for the Swift 5 i5 as we purchased a quick charger and use it through the C port. Mind you the quick charger in size is bulky. Almost the same size as the normal charger that the swift comes with.

Edit Found the QC from Amazon Aus. But you can get a similar one. I think the price has gone up on this one now.
PowerFalcon Dual USB (45W USB-C PD + 12W USB-A) Charger with 4 Interchangeable AC Plugs

You will also need a similar rated power cable. We purchased this one. There are cheaper ones.

Think about spending bit more and get this.. Dell G3 Better processor being 9th gen, more ram at 16gb(expandable up to 32gb) and dedicated GeForce GTX GPU

      • That ones not bad if you want to do some gaming. Comes with a game as well. But with all these things at some point you have to set yourself a limit. I started at $800 and ended up paying $1100.
