It seems the deal is only for Pixel 4, not include Pixel 4XL. <— from JB staff.

Samsung Galaxy S10e $99, Note10 $799
Huawei P30 $199, OPPO Reno 5G $499

                        • @[Deactivated]: Thanks mate. It didn't work from another Telstra number as AaronR suggested.

I'll try on the new sim when it's ported.

                    • @AaronR: Oops you’re right! I had a typo in my IMEI when I tried from my other service.

                      • @Hargain Bunter: Ok, so your's worked from your other Telstra phone number?

Wonder why it didn't work for my other Telstra number. I'm on a 24 month plan.

                        • @dockersrule: Is Pixel 4 XL eligible for a free Nest Hub or just the small one?

                        • @dockersrule: Yep worked for my other Telstra line which is on the JB $45 plan.

  • Thoughts on whether telstra is going to completely lock off the month by month change? JB doesn't have stock of phones any more so will only get it later next week

  • Hi all,
Noob here.. I'd really like the P4XL 128gb.
Anyone worked out how to move from this deal into the P4XL?

    • Read a few pages back, i think it's down to luck whether or not you get it

    • I tried four stores in Melbourne today and they all refused.

      • did you try to sign up for the $199 and then exchange it on the spot or did you go through with the $199 P4 64gb then take the unit + your receipt and try to exchange in different stores?

        Thanks

        • I just told them upfront! I really don't want to be stuck with the small one cause of internal storage and battery size

          • @proteus119: You're better off going through with it then trying your luck at a different store
however, if you fear you'll be stuck with the small unit, maybe you're better off just buying the one you want outright as this whole exercise is luck of the draw and a lot of people have lucked through :) - me included

  • The third time is the charm! Finally was able to get the phone with the number I ported out 3 days ago. The port back to Telstra was automatic, the rep didn't finish putting the order through that the port was completed!

I have already ordered the hub and now all it remains is trying to switch the plan.

    Thanks all for your help

  • For all those successful, so the invoice for the Pixel 4 is RRP? And JB just put some voucher to get it to $199?

  • Sorry in advance for what might appear to be a stupid question, but, out of curiosity, how are ETCs calculated for these BYO plans? Is it $390 (6 months worth) regardless of when you cancel, or if you cancel after say month 4, you only pay a $130 ETC?

    • +1

It reduces gradually; From other plan that I have, it seems to be always about 50% of the remaining costs

  • If/when you cancel the $65 and pay the $390 ETC, how do you then port with the same number to another (original) carrier?

    • Just go to another provider and port your number out of Telstra. By porting it out, it will trigger the cancellation & generate the final bill with ETC on it.

      • Sweet, thanks mate.

  • I'm having trouble switching to the Month to Month plan… Any tips? I keep getting told I need to pay the fee as it was a contract with JB

    • I think I was just lucky and got it first attempt on live chat. I did try to be overly nice and friendly, asking about their day and engaging them on what they told me. I also worded the request as an “upgrade”, but that probably had no influence. So maybe try that, and/or try more attempts?

      • How soon did you do this after going into JB's?

I've just pulled the trigger and got this for my wife (from Amaysim $10) and the Pixel 4 will eventually make it's way to me to replace my Pixel 2. I didn't pay the $199 as I have to wait until the number is ported over.

        • I did it about 30 minutes after my service was activated.

    • Hi, I got lucky and got it first attempt. I just asked nicely to change to a 50$ month to month, that was it. I even asked her to confirm me that there were no charges for switching and she confirmed me that.

      • I find it amazing that Telstra would do this. They've got a customer locked in for 12 months and then they happily let them change to M to M, allowing them to easily cancel without fee….

      • How soon did you do this Pelta? I mean how soon after getting ported into Telstra.

        • 2 - 3 hs after getting ported into Telstra

          • @Pelta: Thanks Pelta.

How did you do it? Do you straight out ask? Or did you have a strategy/excuse?

I want to go to the $50 m to m plan then port out again

            • @dockersrule: I just started the chat with: I would like to change my plan to a $50 month to month

            • @dockersrule: I asked what the fee would be to change from my current plan to the $50 MTM plan.
She asked if I bought the phone outright, which I said yes. She then moved it shortly after.

Can confirm the plan says I'm out of contract, however I won't be.

    • Ok, finally got someone to do it. They said I won't get any cancellation fees as there isn't a device…. So not sure if I'll get stung as the contract still says $390. Will have to wait for the bill

  • Has anyone got a bill from Telstra yet? Are you sure it doesn't show as

    'Your Device Payment'
    then
'If you stay connected to your plan you will receive a Device Plan Discount' ?????

    • Got my first bill from Telstra and it's just the $45 as I opted for the $45 JB plan.

      • Yes, but does it say anything about device payment? Even though there won't be a charge.

        • +1

Nothing about device payment at all. I just said that there are no devices attached to the plan which is what it is anyway as it’s an upfront cost for a phone.

          • +1

@Hunnypooh: lot of dummies on here. it has been said time and time again that this is a JB deal has nothing to do with elstra, there is no mention of device on the contract and on telstras end it only shows byo plan. jb is giving you a huge discount for buying the telstra contract through them as they get a commission for each contract, and im sure they keep that commission even if the thing is cancelled, at the end of the day its telstra getting screwed and i have no problem with that as they have screwed me with their NBN..

            • @striker5950:

at the end of the day its telstra getting screwed and i have no problem with that as they have screwed me with their NBN..

Which part of the NBN does Telstra own?

              • @eug: maybe i should have worded that better, 'NBN plan' where they resell it as a monthly service and mess up the process of adding speed pack as they had listed in the contract but later go on to argue that they made a mistake and will not be adding it which after hours on the phone with them i raised a formal complaint which got one of the top managers to call me and forcefully add the speed pack as shown on the contract. all in all i was on the phone with them combined total of around 8 hours the course of 2 days. many back and forth that didn't need to happen as the contract was clear. this and many more stories, just do a telstra search here on ozbargain in the forum section and you will see all the complaints. they are very well known for their worse than average customer service.

              • @eug: The pits and links.

  • Just so people know, I successfully got the pixel 4 for $199, then took the phone and receipt to a different jb and bought the pixel 4 xl for an extra $230

I didn't mention the deal I just said I bought the wrong pixel. Also I got them to leave it at the counter for me rather than ask the mobile people directly (in case they caught on).

Receipt just says gift card anyway no mention of the deal.

    • +2

You were just lucky. Experienced store manager will know from the tax invoice that your Pixel 4 was partially paid by a $850 giftcard from this deal.

    • I was just up front with them and they did it for me.

      See my earlier comment.

    • hey mate, which store did it for you? Im trying around but no luck

      • Not sure where in melb you are but Nunawading wouldnt do it for me, ringwood happily did it.

        • +1

Tried the Glen but rejected. Going to try Doncaster tomorrow and see if any luck there. Thanks for the tip shapers!

        • How did you tell them?

          • @rickyricardo6: All good! I just went up to the checkout and just asked if i was able to swap it for the XL version. He was happy to do it with no issues.
At nunawading he went and made a call and came back and said he wasnt able as its a telstra subsidized phone.

  • FYI for those just staying on the $65 per month plan and not cancelling or trying for M to M.

The JB rep who signed me up today said that after a month I could go back and downgrade to a $45 per M plan. The ETC on the $45 plan is $270 as opposed to $390.

    • Perfect. At 45 ,it would not be worth it to cancel. If you didn't cancel , it would be 22.5 for the plan as etc would be 22.5 over 12 months.

  • Did anyone manage to get the $150 JB store credit AND the Telstra Google nest with this offer?

    • What is $150 store credit for? Must be a different deal

      • Yeah, it was for the phone outright. I thought I saw someone managing to get the $150 credit for this deal as well.

Maybe I read the post wrong. I hope I did as I got onto this deal late.

        • I saw someone say they got it on Whirlpool. They said they preordered the Pixel though.

  • So, I brought home the phone after about 30 mins in the store.
I can use to call and txt with the new sim but not receiving, all routed to my old Optus sim.
Telstra chat told me to wait 24 hours for switch over to complete. Does this happen to anyone?

    • I had some issues with iMessage moving from iPhone across, which stopped me receiving messages but that was an apple issue.

  • +3

It seems everyone got their SMS and tries to change it to a month-to-month plan. How lucky you all.
I'm the only one who is still waiting for that stupid SMS for getting the phone.

I am happy to stay 12 months with Telstra and use Pixel 4.

    I just want that SMS.

For some stupid reason, JB said it only happens in people who ported their number on Thursday. They don't even let me sign another contract or allow me to add extra $$ for pixel 4 XL.

By the way, JB said Telstra pay for the phone, not them.

    • +1

Don't worry bud, im also still waiting. Signed up 10am Thursday

      • Thanks, mate.
JB called regarding they got the message from Telstra said I want to cancel my plan. The manager and the staff didn't believe me at all. Oh well, it's time to sell my Telstra stock.
What a joke, JB & Telstra.

    • +1

Sorry, this SMS is to say that you've been ported over to Telstra?

    • i hope the s10e sells out so we get an upgrade to something else, maybe s10? or pixel for $99? w'll see

    • +1

Signed up Thursday 2pm still waiting here.

    • +2

Me too, brother. Agree on the frustration with all the lucky ones talking about how they can downgrade their plans, when the idiots at Telstra can't even port over a simple number (currently on hold for the umpteenth time to see if they can provide some update).

    • +1

Signed up on Friday, still nothing.
I bet if you told them your astrological sign, they would say it only happens to (your astrological sign).

  • Was anyone able to find a good case for pixel 4?

    • Spigen make good cases.

I ran a Rugged Armor on my LG G6 and have ordered the same for the Pixel.

    • incipio

  • Noob question, do you have to open the box to get the IMEI (for the Google next hub promo)? i am thinking of selling the phone but keep the plan and the hub.

    Cheers.

    • Nope it's on the outside of the box

  • +1

IMEI on outside of box and on your invoice/receipt

  • -3

Sigh… i can't change my plan to month to month without paying the ETC, i think JB Hifi must have wrote something on my plan/contract all the live chat agents told me the same thing 😫. I want to sell my Pixel 4 XL 128 GB (white) now.

    • Just keep on trying on telstra live chat until you get a rep who's willing to do it for you

      • When i go to my telstra 24/7 app, on My plan tab, it says JB Hi Fi Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 Month. Anyone else got this before they change month to month plan?

        • Isn't that what it should be?

        • When you go to 'change your plan' in the Telstra app what values does it have?

      • Meh. It's just luck in terms of who you're dealing with.

I got straight to the point and asked if I could switch without ETC. If it was no, then I restart live chat.
When it was yes, I just did smiley faces and said awesome, great and thanks a lot.

        • wrong choices of words there lol

  • +1

    Still waiting on the sms

  • Finally spoke to their portability team. Apparently a case was created on Thursday when the first such instance happened. No idea when it'll be fixed. FMD so annoying. I'll be demanding a credit.

    • same, still waiting since Thursday morning 9:30am. Whats annoying is everyone else is getting through, seems to be only affecting the ones including myself that had sign up on Thursday.

      • I signed up to port over on Tues, to the $500 gift card deal.
        Nothing received yet either.

    • credit is a good idea.

  • +9

I wasn't having much luck in changing to the $50 month to month plan without ETC. On my 5th attempt I thought I would request an "upgrade" to the $80 month to month plan and they didn't hesitate. ETC was waived as well. Now I can cancel the $80 plan without penalty.

    • Did you get a pdf with the plan details and no ETC?

      • Not a pdf but my plan did change immediately (SMS received notifying me of increased data) and it shows as $80 plan on my online account (with no contract and no ETC).

        • When are you going to cancel the $80 M2M Ozrex? If canceling, will you get charged the $80?

    • sweet, one road gets blocked, another is opened

    • That’s awesome , I will try your method. Cheers mate

  • Went on Thursday and still no text.

    • same, worth speaking to the port in people over the phone? I'm currently on hold, 56 minutes so far.

      • Nope, they'll apparently try to send the text again, and it won't work. They're entirely incapable of fixing the problem.

        • You would think there would be a fallback option that they could manually send a code & verify you control the number, and then force the port.

  • Is it possible to port over a new number and then afrerwards get an existing number to take over the new number?

    • yes

      • ill give that a shot…

currently on telstra BYO with my mobile # i've had for ages… im happy to start a new contract on a new number then either switcheroo or m2m and cancel the new one and keep my current plan running…

Will they notice im technically a telstra customer with my BYO plan running now? (was a jbhifi signup around 18 mths ago)

      • Are you sure?

        • +1

          yes, i am sure
