With the AMD Radeon RX 5500 and RX 5500 XT coming out next month at a cheaper price now may not be the best time to be purchasing a RX580 or GTX 1060 The 5500 cards are going to be WAY cheaper and as fast as a GTX 1660 - 1660Ti

"As for price, we should be expecting the Radeon RX 5500 XT for $149 while the RX 5500 should come in at $129. Both of them should be released into the market in the coming weeks, and hopefully in custom form as well."

      but those aren't Australian prices?

      • That website is US based.. those are US Prices.

        • Thats the point they were trying to make, so they won't be cheaper if they're ~$150 USD.

          • @magic8ballgag: The RX 5500 should be around $200 in Australia I think.

            • +1

@Adoses: At least $300 AUD. Gst plus Australian weak dollar. For someone who is willing to pay almost 250 for 8gb of ram and could run most of games in 1440p it is a good bargain.

              • @Femelo: Really? That seems extreme. 129 USD is 188 AUD, and with 10% GST thats just over $200. Assuming the Aussie tax as well, that still shouldn't be more than $250.

                • +1

@Adoses: As mentioned below maybe with some lucky it will be between 250 and 300. But I'm guessing close to the 1660ti price.fingers crossing your math is correct then mine haha.

                • @Adoses: GPU prices in Australian dollars are usually double the U.S. dollar prices, eg, USD $129 would be closer to AUD $250, and USD $149 would be about AUD $290.

Especially when you choose a model with a custom cooler, instead of the blower design.

                  • @edathor: No they aren't.

The RX 5700 is 350USD for the base model. It's 530AUD here. Thats just over 50% more.

350USD also converts to about 500AUD, so we're getting a really good price including GST.

The RX 5700 XT is 400USD for the base model, and 630AUD here. Thats 57.5% greater than the American price.

400USD converts to 580AUD, so once again a very fair price once GST is accounted for.

Overall, prices in Aus are nowhere near double the US parts.

    • You can safely double those prices for the Australian market….

Also - "The new Radeon RX 5500 series will be offering Radeon RX 480 levels of performance from AMD". Expect the RX 5500 to be ~ RX 580 but with 4GB and the RX 5500 XT to be ~ RX 590 performance-wise.

Not really.. the US RRP of the Ryzen R7 3700X is $329 US

converted to AU that works out to be $480 AU

I paid $469 for it off Ebay delivered on the second day of release :)

All other stores had it for $519 AU (US Price + GST pretty much.)

So it wont be double if that AMD example carries over

    • So probably $250+ AUD

  • +1

    Didn't know Asrock do GPUs.

  • +2

    $129 US = $188 AU
    $149 US = $217 AU

Plus 10% GST minus 20% Ebay coupon discount and you have a cheaper card then the above uses less power and is faster while being more future proof.

Don't forget the 15% price jack before 20% eBay coupon!

      • 90% of the time.. but some are a full 20% its rare

missing the graphics card deals..been pretty quiet lately hopefully retailers are saving discounts for black friday. Or we can blame the aussie dollar for doing really crap

    • +3

$1 AU = 0.68 US Cents .. wow it is really bad at the moment.. good for our exports though.

      • hopefully it rises before black friday. I'm still waiting on deals for the 3700x and 2060 super. Also frustrating that the 5700 xt is $30 cheaper than 2060 super and performs 10% better on average

        • +2

          That's the Nvidia brand TAX

Look at how much the GTX 1650 sells for and it performs 50% worse then a RX570 but costs 20% more

3 out of 5 average Joe's would still buy the GTX 1650 over the RX 570 because Nvidia marketing have them brainwashed

          • @vid_ghost: I know it sucks heaps but I need nvidia rtx for creative work like gpu rendering and most 3d software has better performance with nvidia :(

            • @Tuttifrutti12345: Exactly. I love amd but when you use some CAD packages they are a bit more optimized for nvidia unfortunately.

Just a heads up I didn't get an AMD rewards code with my RX580 from Futu Online (nothing in digital invoice nor anything included with the card).

Messaged them for what the go is, to receive a code.
