12% extra cashback from Shopback right now. $580 after Shopback. EXPIRED

I've been watching the price on this as I've been intending on adding it to my gaming rig for sim racing.
I figured that I'd wait for Black Friday but I'm not sure it's worth waiting for at this price. Decisions, decisions…

Mod: Title Guidelines Price. May include discount or saving (e.g. “$2 off” or “half price) if space allows. However, the price should NOT include any referral discounts or cashback (commission refunds) - include that in the deal description instead.

So for sale for regular price and you need Cashback for this to be an actual deal?

    • +1

Regular price is $650 from Oculus afaik but isn't $50 cashback a deal?

      • +2

A quick google brings it up as $630 at most places
but i did see that 650 is rrp.

Yeah cashback is a deal but i do not think the cashback itself should qualify an item as a deal, otherwise everyone could just post everything they find on Amazon etc and be like… its a deal cause you can get $50 cash back.
imagine the feed if everyone started doing that.

Anyways i am not the one who decides what qualifies as a deal, the mods are i am just expressing an opinion.

        • 3 months ago $597 was considered a deal?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yes that a pretty good deal.
You did not need to use ShopBack to get that price though and that is my point.

            • @jimbobaus: But my point is a deal is a deal. You will get the $50 cashback and you will pay $580.

              • -2

@[Deactivated]: and my point is its NOT a deal because you pay full RRP and the cash back is at the whim of a third party (one with a pretty poor reputation if you search the forums)
If the items was discounted AND you got a cashback from a third party then i feel it would be a deal.

i feel the rules (and according to comments on other posts they do) should say that a deal cant be a deal if the cashback is the only thing bringing the price down.

This is literally OZRRP and a chance of a cashback
If it was a manufacturers cash back, it wouldn't be a "chance" of a cashback that is more like what you are saying and its just a delayed discount

(would be saying same thing if it was cashrewards btw)

                • @jimbobaus: It's not full RRP, RRP is $650. Can you show me where else you can get it delivered for $630? I honestly can't find anywhere else.

Also this is Amazon, if your cashback doesn't show up in a few days then return the item to Amazon. Free of charge.

                  • +3

@[Deactivated]: You're right that $630 is not RRP, but that's been the regular price on Amazon since the 1st of August.

                    • @evanjd: I don't believe it's a dupe at $630 delivered.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: It’s not, you’re not wrong to post it. Just explaining why @jimbobaus was referring to $630 as the “regular” price on Amazon.

                        • @evanjd: He also refers to it as RRP which isn't true but yeah, I thought it was worth posting. I've just purchased it myself as it seems the cheapest available.

                • @jimbobaus: Hey Jim Bob, that was a genuine request. If you can show me other places selling Rift S for $630 or less delivered can you link me please? I'm looking for a way to buy this at the best price.

              • @[Deactivated]: I agree with @jimbobaus, the deal is 12% cashback itself, not something that becomes 12% cheaper with the 3rd party cashback. With that said, coming from the stable pricing of the Rift S, this post is IMHO okay.

However, technically speaking, Rift S selling on Amazon for $630 instead of the RRP $650 qualifies more to a 'deal' than the 12% cashback.

                • +4

@Bewater: I thought the idea of this site was to help people find the cheapest way to buy things? I can't find this cheaper. I'm not after browny points (+ votes) just wanting to share what I consider a good price.

                  • +4

@[Deactivated]: Yeah there's just a bunch of users that like to nitpick.

Don't stress about it bro. You've posted the deal, if people think its good, they'll make the purchase.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: Your intention is certainly not wrong, and I agreed that this post is OK because what you have described in the post (amazon with shopback) is the cheapest way to get the item at the moment.

I am merely coming from the perspective of getting deals more organized for everybody, e.g. if the cashback becomes 100% but capped at $5 and single use, it would be crazy to create a post for everything on amazon selling under $5, since they become free. Instead a post on the cashback deal itself would be posted and comment section below could be used to discuss on which item would give the best value for using the single use $5 cashback.

That example is extreme, but you get my point, this post is on the fence between 'a separate deal post' and 'auseful comment under the 12% cashback deal', but at the end I am OK with this being a separate post.

Was thinking the same for the Oculus Quest last night, but I already have an Oculus CV1 so I'm trying not to cave in when mine works just fine. Resisting, resisting…

    • Same boat -Wait for next gen imo

    • +1

Quest is apparently getting full PC (tether) support soon so it'll work like a Rift S.

      • Noticeable delay using the Quest tether according to sources so it's not a replacement for Rift S, for those that are interested.

        • Any link to this mate? Would appreciate it. Thanks

      • -1

The cable is the problem though. Oculus Quest is better for being wireless IMO.

        • For me the battery and lesser refresh rate are it's downsides. OLED screen and a slightly better resolution are it's good points.

The big question of course is how well it will perform with full PC VR. If it's perfect then I'd buy that.

    • -1

Using a Rift Touch I'm in the same boat - I'll probably upgrade when the cables are no longer needed.

  • -1

Selling rrp and rely on shop back is not a deal

    • -5

      Not rrp. Attention seeker ^^

      • -1

Ahhh ok, my bad, so the RRP is $649, now is selling at $630.

That's HUGE DISCOUNT bro, give yourself a pat on the back mate.

However I still agree with jimbobaus: "Yeah cashback is a deal but i do not think the cashback itself should qualify an item as a deal, otherwise everyone could just post everything they find on Amazon etc and be like… its a deal cause you can get $50 cash back.
imagine the feed if everyone started doing that."

You're a credit to OzBargain. Great input to a great community lol.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: This is coming from someone that calls others "attention seeker" whilst posting terrible deals on the internet?

            • @Draupnir: 17 plus votes and counting, I'm not sure why this is upsetting to a minority of people. Enjoy your weekend, it's so much effort to hate. Maybe you should try posting a deal now and then as well. Contribute?

  • -3

It's been $630 for a very long time. Sorry but this isn't a deal.

    • -1

Hi Mr Bezos. Don't tell anyone but you can get it for $580 if you get cashback that's available today 😂

    • +2

Dude, you've posted the EXACT same "deal" 3 months in a row.
You have no room to talk about "this isn't a deal"

edit: and 7 months out of the last 11 months.
8 in the last 13 months

  • -2

Been looking for one for a while. Not really a deal but will absolutely avoid this seller because OP is acting like an idiot.

    • Uhhh how so. Because I disagree that $630 isn't RRP ($650) and that I think $580 is a good price? The seller is Amazon Australia, I'm nothing to do with it. This makes little sense.

  • +1

I mean if you wanted one it's cheap(er) here and with Amazon returns are free, hell you could try it and send it back! Thanks for the effort WTC

    • +1

      You're welcome dude.

  • +5

Here have a + to balance out all the hate. Dude is just posting for the benefit of others. Who's gonna bother posting deals if they're gonna be attacked for doing so?

How I see it is, final price will be $580. Doesn't matter how you get there. Be it discounted gift cards, eBay discount for "eligible" items, or in this case, cashback. Net result is the same (assuming shopback come through)

    • +1

Exactly - Not sure what all the hate is all about. This will just discourage people to post. $50 cash back is $50 credited to your account in a few months. I would have happily bought if I was after one.

  • 5 revisions…lol

  • +3

FYI, my sources tell me it will be $499 on Black Friday sale. But $580 is still a great bargain if cash back works, but that will take a few months to get it so better to wait for the big sale?

    • +1

$499 will be a great price!

    • :( I really want a Valve index. But at this price, I am not sure if I can resist.

My main drewback is my IPD is 68.5 outside the best range….

      https://uploadvr.com/data-suggests-oculus-rift-s-ipd-range-b…

    • Are your sources reliable or a dream you had once?

      • I could ask my sources if they had been dreaming but that might upset them!

  • +1

Not a bad price. I'm still having the internal fight over Vive or Rift

    • I'm waiting to see the AU price of Vive Cosmos.

      Or Valve Index.. heh.

      • Gotta be $1500 for Valve Index I reckon. And Vive prices are always crazy as well.

  • Man im so behind all this. i am still rocking (read perhaps use once every 3 months), my PS3, XboX 360 and I have a Samsung gear VR I've never used… considering buying a refurb Samsung Note 5 as it is the model compatible with the VR version I have. I've got no time, how i wish I did…

  • My cashback just tracked for this. Shopback seems to be much more reliable so far than other cashback that I've used and had issues with.
