Only an extreme Apple fan would find this a good deal.

People who really like Apple Phones should wait for the iPhone 5 in September-October

People who just want a good phone and don't want to wait for the iPhone 5 should be buying an Android phone.

I would hardly call it a saving either, Apple most likely has reduced the price with the intention of making maximum money and selling maximum stock before the iPhone 5, this is a permanent price reduction in disguise, there are iPhone 4 specials everywhere at the moment, they want to get rid of them.

    • I have not seen any other specials, so +1 for me

Don't worry Sam, we had a bunch of great offers on Android devices yesterday, plus there will be a load more over coming days and weeks, plus some for Windows Phone 7, Symbian, plus all the other operating systems!

Everytime when people post deals like that, someone will said wait for next gen model, how about wait for iphone6 1 years later!!!

    • yep, getting sick of hearing it every time

iPhone 5 should be released this september ;)

iPhone 4 is a good phone. But the screen size kills it these days(it used to be big enough)
i'm using Samsung Galaxy S2 and i'm in S2 with it, especially its screen size ;)

The 'new model coming soon' posts always follow every Apple bargain posting. The same fervor is not applied to any other manufacturer.

Yes, a new model is always coming. In other news, water is wet, fire is hot, the sun is still shining.

The 'new model coming soon' posts are almost always based on credible rumours, and are generally spot on give or take a few months. I've been buying Macs for personal use and my business for nearly a decade, and I've never been caught out by the timing of my Apple purchases simply because I take rumors about the product I'm intending to purchase into consideration. Your own experience with the MacBook you bought earlier in the year is the exception rather than the rule, because Apple has now discontinued the product (for anyone but educational institutions) and allowed it to go without updates for far longer than usual.

You ridiculed me a month ago (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47747#comment-511901) when I suggested people hold off on buying a MacBook Air if they could wait, because credible evidence suggested an upgrade was imminent. Sure enough a very significant upgrade to the MacBook Air was released overnight.

Likewise, Apple has been following a yearly release cycle for their iPhone, and will almost certainly be releasing an update in September-October, as other posters have noted.

I also gave one explanation to you last time (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47955#comment-514345) why the same fervour isn't applied to other manufacturers — other brands release updates and spec bumps to their products a much higher frequency than Apple. The real risk of buying an Apple product that is overdue for an update is that you'll soon be left with superseded technology that is months if not years behind the curve, due to Apple's relatively infrequent updates. The ideal time to buy an Apple product is straight after its release.

At the end of the day, I'm just trying to give helpful advice based on my own knowledge and experience. If you don't want to take that advice, that's more than fair enough; buy what you want to buy and be happy with it. :)

Wait for the iphone 10, I heard it can power a substation

    • +1

I hear the iPhone 20 will wash the dishes for you. Wait until September!

      • OK, now i can't quote my sources, but i've got an insider who has told me that the iphone 25 will make you more attractive to woman.

        • +1

But you'd have to wait until then to be attractive!

      • I hear the iPhone has an app that will build you an island and transforms into a jet and flies you there.

    • +1

Exact opposite. Battery life will be so poor you'll need a portable substation to plug it in at all times.

I agree with Sam in this instance. He's just providing some good insight especially to newbie of what is coming. With Apple announcement of IOS 5, I'm just not sure how the new software will cope with the old hardware but as you all aware Apple has been always pushing new IOS fixes and you will opt to download them to get the latest functionality. My experience is you probably not able to download/update apps as they will be build more towards the incoming model or worse lagging when I upgraded my Ipod 2G/3G to IOS4.

    • Prettyy much, I'd never spend $700 on an iPhone 4 anyway. SS had s Galaxy S ll, which kicks the crap out of the iPhone in every way possible for $500 and something dollars. I think Desire HD's are around $500 delivered on eBay too. But this is a good saving from the regular price, and isn't a bad deal if you need an iPhone 4
