Not the cheapest ever but hopefully good for many locations and stock. Might be some cashback offers or giftcards that could add to discount. Says network locked but not sure which one. See previous BigW deal for some unlocking options.

Just a heads up, this is currently $159 @ Aus Post

oh thanks! I did a search before posting and didn't see that listed. That is probably a better bargain.

Nice find doweyy, that special just started yesterday I think.

The one from Coles says 4GX, so most likely locked to the Telstra Network, better for some maybe.

The deal from Aust. Post is Vodafone Network, again good for some, but this late in the party low hopes

of getting one of the older batches with free unlock unless really lucky.

can check on the box if it will unlock for free or not. dont have to open the retail box or power up the device

          • @kehuehue: Correct, but you are referring to unlocking the Vodafone Samsung A20, different for the

Telstra versions. Have you got a list handy of all the good Vodafone A20's IMEI's

that are free to unlock ( read about it but list got updated so forgot the details ).

            • +1

@ozhunter68: Depends on the last bit of the imie.
15xxxx is 50$ from Vodafone, 25$ after six months use and 11xxxx and 14xxxx is free from Vodafone

              • @kehuehue: Cheers. Any idea if IEMEI's between 11xxxx and 14xxxx are also free from Vodafone?

oh good to know. I am on Boost so no need to unlock. CR has 10% for Coles online and I can hopefully stack with discounted giftcards through my car insurance.

    • +1

Thought the add said in store only, so no Cash Rewards, not sure? Discounted Gift Cards should work.

This phone if Telstra locked will go great with the discounted Boost 12 month/240GB on sale for $240.

Combined package of $419 ( or less using discounted G.C. ) for decent phone and a year of 20GB per month on Telstra for a year.

      • +1

yes sorry it is instore only. i read the 'you can shop from this catalogue from Wed 30th' to mean I could shop online.

  • Are these good phones for parents?

    • I am after same advice as need it for my dad in his 60's

      • Fine for over half of all smartphone users I would say, but many like to spend more to get latest or needed features. Just watch a few reviews on YouTube. One of the best AU$250> phones of 2019 so far.

        • Too late to Edit my above comment, but have to add that this A20 does sound like it has questionable GPS performance so best not to need this high on your list of well working features.

Going by the later comments on the Aust Post listing, even after a software update some people are still having issues with it taking long to lock and something to do with wifi needing to be on ( take that all with a grain of salt as some people like to nit-pick and complain if not as good as top-notch ).

Easy unlock, took all of 5 minutes using the Samsung USB Unlock Tool(fonefunshop.com) which cost 3 GBP (about $5). Works fine with Telstra and Amaysim SIMs.

    Steps I used:

Downloaded and installed the Samsung USB drivers and the Samsung Unlock tool from the link provided above.
Enabled developer mode on the phone
Enabled USB debugging mode on the phone
Removed SIM card from phone and rebooted phone
Removed all security (PIN, Pattern, Fingerprint, Face Unlock)
Ran the Samsung unlock tool, loaded in the licence key information
Connected phone to PC using the USB to USB-C cable that came in the box
Pressed "Read Info" on the unlock tool to confirm that the comms was working ok
Pressed "Allow USB Debugging" on the phone multiple times
Selected "Unlock (New)" on the unlock tool.
Accepted "Allow USB Debugging" on the phone more times
Phone rebooted a couple of times
Unlock tool confirmed that Unlock process was successful, and the unlock code had been reset to 00000000
Put a non-Vodafone SIM card in and restarted phone
Phone asked for an unlock code, entered 00000000
    Everything worked from here
From what I can work out, the tool does NOT unlock the phone itself. It generates an unlock key based on a NULL SIM (hence why you have to remove all SIMs before starting the process), and changes the unlock code to 00000000. When you then insert a "foreign" SIM, it then normally prompts for the unlock code, except the code is now set to the known 00000000.

If someone else can confirm the steps are correct (I'm doing this from memory), that would be good

    • Thanks for the clear steps. This would work for the Vodafone version, but would it also work if locked to Telstra?

    • some have reported that the Vodafone deal from Auspost has has Knox so can't be unlocked easily?

  • +1

$229 RRP and mentioning 4GX means probably Telstra Prepaid unit.

  • +1

Most likely locked to Telstra, as it the same price on their site

  • Anyone sure if this will work with an Aldi SIM???

    • +1

Does not work straight out of the box with Aldi mobile, just tried about 5 minutes ago.

  • +1

Yes I also would like to know re Aldi sim

    • +1

There is a chance that this as well as the most recent batches of Telstra Prepaid phones only work on Boost without unlocking, not even Aldi or Belong Mobile.

We need this confirmed from someone who has one,….. anyone?

  • Does the Telstra Samsung Galaxy A20 Pre-Paid have '3GB' or '2GB' of RAM ?

Telstra Website lists '2GB' RAM: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/sam…

    • I can confirm that it has 3GB of RAM, I checked the in the device settings. It's also printed on the Samsung box but no mention of RAM on the putter Telstra branded box.
