Who knew the makers of pre-packaged, overpriced crap are actually closet racists.

YouFoodz needs to fire the CEO, even if he is the founder.

Lance Giles, CEO and founder of meal delivery business Youfoodz, and his fiancée Jordana Stott were caught on video mocking Asian people while in Singapore for the Global Restaurant Leadership summit.

The second clip, which is even more expletive-laden, captures a group of Asian guests posing for a picture in a swimming pool, as Stott mockingly comments, “Get it cts, fing get the photo, oh f**ing yeah she-shing.” A male voice, presumably belonging to Giles, can also be heard repeating Stott’s last words “she-shing,” attempting to mimic an Asian language.

              @p1 ama: The problem is that, as you have noted yourself, discrimination is incredibly difficult to prove. If someone is racist, like these two are, it's silly to think they don't discriminate. They definitely don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Beyond that, explicit discrimination isn't necessary for someone to be offended. Racially attacking people for no reason is enough.

      It’s racist.
      Mocking the Asian accent has a long history and has been used to put down Asians (as simple or stupid) for many decades. In particular it groups all Asians together as lesser; silly speakers.

      It could be argued that mocking the way Asians speak can be a precursor to other more threatening behaviours….. perhaps.

      I think it is important to call out such behaviours; and I would have if I was on their table. I would have pointed out that their rubbish talk was offensive to me (I am not Asian) and why.

              I read your link. That is not what it concludes at all. "The names we used were from five broad ethnicities: Anglo-Saxon, Indigenous, Italian, Chinese and Middle Eastern"

              Unless you believe that all Europeans are either Anglo-Saxon or Italian? I guess all Asians are just Chinese in that case too.

                  Your point doesn't stand because you're basing it entirely on a white vs non-white thing when it isn't. All migrant populations and minorities have experienced racism - "white" or not.

                  And seeing as you conveniently chose to ignore the second part of my comment, I'll repeat it again. The research made absolutely no conclusions about having a European name vs a non-European name. The ethnic make up of Europe consists of more than Anglo-Saxons and Italians - but well done generalizing an entire continent of people when arguing a point about race.

                  You're saying it's about white vs non-white. The research you linked is stating that the relationship lies within being an ethnic minority and the recency of migration - not about the colour of one's skin. Italians face less prejudice now because they are no longer the minority.

                    Italians make up 5% of the population of Australia. they aren't a majority. They immigrated in the 1960's and as you say, no longer suffer any form of discrimination, although they did initially. I fully agree that every major group of foreigners who come to australia suffer an initial backlash of xenophobia fairly evenly.

                    Chinese immigrants first started moving to Australia in considerable numbers in the 1850's gold rush era and make up 5.6% of the population of Australia and yet still suffer a considerable amount of the anti-asian sentiment which pervades Australia today. (exhibit a - the video in question)

                    Are you really saying this has nothing to do with colour? I think you're being intentionally obtuse if you don't see a difference between Australian society's ability to 'accept and assimilate' white immigrants compared to other ethnicities.

Since 2001 the population of foreign born Chinese has more than tripled, where as foreign born population from most European countries has decreased. When Europeans were migrating here in large numbers, they copped large amounts of discrimination and weren't even considered 'white'. Now that they've stopped coming and mostly assimilated, discrimination has reduced significantly.

                      That is what the article you linked to concluded. That they found "evidence of discrimination against ethnic minorities – especially the more recently admitted groups". They drew no conclusions about skin colour.

                      It is clear to see that a large population of Chinese have not yet assimilated due to their recency of migration. Go to an area that is predominately Chinese here in Melbourne (e.g. Box Hill) and storefronts will contain very little or no English at all, and it's not uncommon to find an employee/waiter that speaks almost no English.

                      Besides, if you're saying the video exhibits "anti-Asian" sentiment - have you never heard someone put on a funny Italian accent? Would you equally describe that as "anti-Italian" sentiment?

                      Anyway, lets just leave it at that and agree to disagree because this has dragged on long enough.

White skinned accents with similar cultural traits however get treated as a comic relief that makes up for the apparent poor communication. This is more historical and Australia is far less racist than it used to be.

    I was born in Australia, but my parents are Japanese. So I guess 98% of people think I only speak Japanese or are a tourist or student.

    I’ve had some pretty crappy things said to me in my life “get out of my way squishy nose”, “oh I wasn’t expecting you to be Asian” (I have an Anglo sounding name), “move it slanty eyes” etc etc

    I don’t really take offence to those but for some reason I do take offence to people that think they can come up into my face and pretend to speak some version of an Asian language at me. Had it done in the bus, train, public space etc. they’re usually always bogans who think it’s hilarious. Unfortunately being on the small Asian side I’m not willing to say things back as the bogans are usually in groups or much larger than me.

    I have bought youfoodz a few times from the local iga but no longer will. This CEO is just another bogan like the others I have come across.

          Please do not stand up, or have eye contact, usually it's these Western mentality of stand up that gets us killed.

          Western mentality is to face your fears, asian mentality taught from the roots is walk away and ignore them.

            @luffyex2010: im similar to OP, asian born here, im still alive and grew up in a time with a lot less asians around. I have had several grown ass women, mothers tell me to go back to where I came from when I was a kid.

            I told them I was born here, where should I go?!

            girl, boy, non gender doesnt matter, stand up for yourself

            shoulders slumped forward, walking away and ignoring makes you seem weak and a target for bullying and easy prey. Not to mention the negative effects it has on your own self confidence.

    sure there is a lot of truth to the comments about other cultures and nations being more racist and non-accepting. But that is no excuse, and I am extremely proud that Australia as a whole strives to be accepting of everyone. This sort of behaviour is just immature and they should be ashamed that they are still behaving this way.
