[VIC] Free Entry to World Vegan Day @ Melbourne Showgrounds

261

Before getting into the details, a joke if I may…… Why did the vegan cross the road? To tell someone he was a vegan. lol.

World Vegan Day promotes awareness of the ethical, compassionate, health and environmental benefits of a vegan diet and lifestyle. It showcases a diversity of worldwide vegan food, cosmetics, clothing, footwear, belts, bags, accessories, pet food and a huge range of other vegan goods and services.

There will be talks covering issues such as the ethics of our food choices, animal treatment and exploitation, health, the environmental impact of animal industries, vegan fitness and the economic issues regarding human food choices. Food demonstrations show how vegans can prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, including everything from health food and raw food to comfort food and deserts.

Live bands and musicians will be performing, along with demonstrations from athletes in the fitness zone. There will also be fashion parades, speed dating, an arts area, an education zone, a Vegan Paleo area, a VegVic educational area, an Indigenous Zone and a kids area.

I put meat even in my egg. I won't attend this vegan fest even if you give me $100 coupon.

      Cool… I guess?

Thanks for crossing the road to tell us!

I'm just here for the comment dumpsterfire

    Are protests free?

  • Sounds like an opportunity for a nice payback protest.

Great idea. When and where do we 'meat'?

Meh… every day is world vegan day at my place ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Is a Vegan just a homeless person with money?

  • +4

Let's set up a Bunning style BBQ next to their tent lol.

    • +5

The Bunnings a few suburbs away does vegan sausages.

Interesting it's being held at a location whose primary purpose is the annual display amongst other things, farmed animals.

Anyway I am always puzzled at the hatred on display from both sides. You'd think us carnivorous would be delighted that there's more bacon for us and the vegans, more fruit & veg for them!

    Win-win from my view.

I am always puzzled at the hatred on display from both sides.

I'm always amazed carnivores think vegans hate them. Primarily, vegans want ethical treatment of all animals (even if to be slaughtered). Individuals become vegans because of self-realisation - carnivores are irrelevant.

I see religious zealotry from both sides (ie. demonising the other side and preaching/trying to convert them). It’s a vocal minority.

        • +2

Would you see zealotry at play when people are fighting for the rights of other people? I hope so.

          • @AlexF: There you go….you proved my point.

        • +3

Which side is the vocal minority?

I've never been harassed by a vegan, and I don't think there is such a thing as a serious anti-vegan. That would be idiotic. Maybe I'm missing the point.

I respect vegans, even though I may make jokes on here, they are fighting a worthy cause and I hope they win.

          • @TEER3X:

Which side is the vocal minority?

Both sides. It’s just religious. IMHO practice your faith/beliefs, lead by example. But don’t harass & hate, because that’s where the trouble begins.

A bit of friendly banter is good. I’ve been spat at and been called some choice phrases by d.heads who happen (or claim) to be vegan, I’ve seen vegan’s been abused by d.heads who happen to be carnivores (to whom I’m happy to point out that one more vegan means more bacon for us). But IMHO they’re just d.heads, who happen to align themselves with one particular belief system. If they swapped sides they’d still be d.heads. The majority on both sides are fine. You use don’t get that vocal passion, so you don’t notice them. If you get what I mean?

This is perhaps the most refreshing view I've ever read. I love your way of thinking.

It's ironic that they have a cartoon owl in a prominent place in their poster.

Are they actually aware that owls are birds of prey ?

At least the cartoon animal for the "Keto & Paleo" zone is a gorilla. It would be funny if they had featured a chimpanzee. (Chimps love eating meat.)

Veganism is a philosophy and practice applicable to humans.

I wonder if they have similar days in India where half the population are vegetarians

Would need to get electricity first.

  • Will they be having a meat raffle??

  • Setting up a stall outside and selling Arby's carrots
