  • From all the reviews I have read is the mediaplayer is awesome plays everything, PVR feature is good, bit the epg is awful.
At this price it's a bargain

  • absolute bargain.
I bought the single tuner version 3 weeks ago at $135.
Beaut of a unit, but as said, epg kinda sucks.

  • Great deal. Only negative I would say about this unit is HDD storage is external (i.e. no internal HDD capability like the AP-360T or AP-380DT).

    • +1

Thats actually quite a huge negative, its a dual hdd tuner with no internal storage hmmm a bit weird..

      • I agree… possibly why it's a fair bit cheaper than the AP-380DT.

    • it has USB /and/ eSATA. Buy a cheap external USB HD and use that. Cheapest 1TB USB HD that I see is $49. That makes this $175 vs $250 or so for ones that come with the 1TB HD inside.

IMO not having the HD in the tuner is a good thing and therefore a plus.

  • Does it play .mkv?

    • according to google it does, but whats "Xvid: GMC function not support"

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_motion_compensation

"Global motion compensation (GMC) is a technique used in video compression to reduce the bitrate required to encode video. It is most commonly used in MPEG-4 ASP, such as with the DivX and Xvid codecs."

Worth noting: "Due to the extra decoding CPU cost of global motion compensation, most hardware players do not support global motion compensation."

        • Interesting, I imagine some of my 'videos' would likely have this. Owell I guess I might get this anyhow.

        • You may be able to use tools such as GSpot and MediaInfo to determine whether GMC is used.

        • only other thing is some players dont support all formats at full HD… some only support them at 720P worthwhile checking out.

thats why i love the media centre so much.

    • +1

According to the product page, yes.

  • I wonder if it could record to a network share instead of an external hard drive?

    • Looks like recording to USB or eSATA connected storage only.

    • well it does have network functionality for playing media files.

  • +3

hmm.. staticice has a number of retailers stocking it for under $120 (lowest at $114), assuming you can pick it up from the shop (ie. not taking into account of any delivery fees).

wonder if xpmicro will be able to match it? ;)

  • +2

    shipping is a bit steep

  • Does it support wifi?
    Any specific dongle?
A link to the manual would be good!

  • To xpmicro: Thanks for this. Is it possible to get a deal on Astone 360T? $100 shipped =)

  • Does this thing use a fan? Last dual tuna (ahm) pvr i got was so loud I had to return it. Don't want to bother with that again.

  • Can these things stream live DVB to the network, eg. to a UPnP/DLNA client?
