  • If I make a TRS claim, I will only get a refund from the discounted price of the phone and not the 12 months phone plan, right?
On the TRS site it says services are not eligible for refund. Double checking before I make my first TRS claim. ty

edit: can't see this deal on JB site, but found the same deal happening on The Good Guys site. Good Guys offer $500 off on any phone.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/telstra-mobile-and-broadband-…

    • The phone is a seperate purchase, shows up as payment methods being a $500 gift card plus whatever other payment option you use.
Is completely seperate to the phone plan so as far as TRS goes, you purchased a phone outright.

  • SOme dingo from Optus is claiming this is a "lease" contract where you need to return the phone to Telstra (after a year)

    Surely it's not the case

    • +3

Nah, you're buying an unlocked iPhone outright. Telstra discontinued lease plans in July

  • With Telstra's new contracts being non-committal, can anyone confirm that this deal definitely does lock you into 12 months?

If you sign up for a contract directly with Telstra, you can exit at any time and only have to pay the remainder of the device cost out.

eg: If I went to JB with a prepaid Optus or Vodafone SIM, ported in, can I then cancel my contract with Telstra and only be liable with remaining phone cost (minus the $500) or are the terms of this deal the phone cost + $65 multiplied by the remainder of months on the 12 month contract?

    • +3

I signed up yesterday and it’s saying the cost to cancel the contract is $388. I also got a $15 per month data sim with $100 gift card. It’s a good deal to use against This aswell as there is no locked in contract on data sim

  • Hi, do they still give 10$ off for new port in customers?

    • No

    • +2

Yes, I just got it after using on-line chat. Also thanks to @Mixinitup's tip, I also got the $100 gift card from the $15 data plan, and put that towards the cost of the phone.
So all up, $600 off phone, $55 plan (after changing with chat), and $15 data plan to be cancelled.

      • @myrtales Could you please tell us how you did that? Have you signed the contract with JB Hi-Fi and then do the online chat to have the 10$ off? and what about the 100$ gift card? I am heading to have one and would be great to hear how you did that. Thanks.

        • +2

I asked about the data plan + bonus giftcard deal was still happening, and if that could be stacked with the iPhone deal. Then a few hours later after everything was activated and porter I jumped online to Telstra chat and said that I had heard about getting $10/m credit for porting in a new number. After a bit of back and forth, it was done.

    • After trying twice I was given only $5 off as they said the offer is no longer available . I guess you have to keep trying in Chat to see who gives you $10 off.

  • It's getting harder and harder to find Siebel trained JB staff. They all use the call centre now and the call centre Telstra staff ALWAYS check. I was refused by two stores for the deal last month. Ended up spending $40 on Optus recharges anyway, so didn't lose much money. But I'm officially 30 days tomorrow! This is perfect timing.

For people talking about switching numbers etc. Just don't. Because you will have a lot of problems and I didn't even know you could do that and I'm Siebel trained.

Edit… didn't read properly. This isn't the gift card deal.

    • Yep. All employees cross trained in departments now and everone needs to push Telco hence the call centre was introduced as I was leaving the company. Higher foot traaffic/CBD stores should still have proper telco staff.

The good guys do the same 12month telstra jbhifi deal.. I got it on the weekend with the 256gb iphone 11

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/telstra-mobile-and-broadband-…

  • Does Telstra do a data sharing any more?
$65 per moth is a little to much for my needs but if I can buy an extra SIM and share the data to it I could put the extra SIM in a wireless dongle and use as home internet as well.
60gb a month would be ample for a phone and home internet.
Ohh, and I just clicked on the link to show the iPhones available and am gobsmacked that they go up to $1749.

    • You can share data if business but not as a consumer.

      • Is it easy to setup or change it to business. Is this offer available if you say it is for a business?

  • Can anyone please confirm early termination charges?

    • According to the post above $388. But YMMV.

  • Can I get the discount on an iphone that particular jb store doesn't have in stock.

There's an iphone i want but it is clearance and not available anywhere close to me.

But it is still available for postage online.

  • Also does anyone know if i haven't taken part in any previous jb phone plan deals and just activate a sim with say optus can i have it ported tomorrow to jb?

    • Yep that’s fine

  • Haha i am at JB now trying to get the $500 on the iphone but a different phone. The salesperson was hush hush but said come see him tomorrow.. hint of a straight up $500 GC

  • I already have a number and account with telstra and I have an number/account with kogan. Will this work if i port my kogan account to telstra or will my pre-existing number on telstra not allow me to

    • +1

New number port in counts, regardless of if you have a current Telstra with another plan.
Actually makes it easier for staff if you have a telstra account already.

  • After over an hour and a bit in the store, got one!

I'm actually an existing Telstra customer however I did NOT port in. It's a brand new service. The store ended up giving me a $400 store card and discounted the 128gb iPhone 11 to $1179. On the receipt the cost of the phone is $1179, which I'm claiming TRS on.

Then read on this thread that I could get a further 5% via the Suncorp rewards. Bought 15x $50 JB cards while waiting for them to setup it up!

Paid $741.50 instore and used all the 15x $50 gift cards. This was a painful process :)

As mentioned here, if I cancel the plan today, it will cost $390.

    • My only question is why you bought 15x $50 cards instead of a $500 card and a $250 haha

      • Suncorp allocates these in $50 blocks.

        • +1

Suncorp Rewards actually allows you to choose the value between 50-500 FYI. Just thought I would save you (and the poor cashier) the trouble next time you want to purchase from JB.

  • JB was offering $500 gift card today. Just took the $65 twelve month plan with $500 JB gift card.

  • so I popped in today and they told me its $500 gift card and not $400. I was an existing telstra customer with 1 month remaining;

I bought a $2 vodafone sim card and ported in into this new plan. 10 Minutes after I have contacted Telstra Customer Care to cancel my old phone plan with an ETF of 1 month (~$40) and they have transferred my number across.

  • Yup got 2x $500 porting 2 numbers..

With ETC of $390 if you cancelled the next day. You can make $108 worth of JB money per number from a $2 SIM..
