  • You got more of the catalogue by any chance?

Any chance of posting full page for the watch mate.
Would be nice to see if we can get pricematch

What's the best smart watch out there in the wild? The generally accepted product to beat. I want one but I am hopelessly out of the loop. Can Google though trust you more. I have a S10+ if that makes absolutely any difference.

    • +2

It's omega. Doesn't depreciate, and makes you look smart, instead of itself.

The James Bond edition also can cut through glass, or detonate a remote bomb.

    • +10

Galaxy Watch 46 isn't bad, but Bixby is absolute (profanity) garbage. If it didn't make me so angry, i'd make a video showing it failing over and over again to run simple commands. 'Set Timer 10 Minutes'. "Sorry, I couldn't understand you". They refuse to give up and just run google assistant. The best part is when it acts like it is doing what you told it to, but then 30 minutes later your (profanity) pizza is burnt to a crisp.

If my Pebbles still worked, I'd say they were the best.

      • I like Siri, you can just say “10 minute timer” and she understands what you want. “Disable all alarms” is useful too if you set dozens of wake up alarms.

      • +5

It is possible to install Google assistant
        Apparently works fine

        https://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/664224/how-get-google…

        • yeah, but last time I looked it couldn't be started with a voice command (ok google, hi bixby, etc), or manipulate apps on the watch itself. So you'd still have to open the app, click listen, then have it run a timer on your phone. Samsung just needs to face the music that bixby lost.

These are very good, good battery life and good functionality connected to a Samsung phone, only major downside is inaccurate HRM when exercising, resting is fine just doesn't track it well when you get running.

The GWA2 is the first Samsung watch with accurate HRM when exercising.

A major update has just been released for these as well bringing them up to speed with the newer GWA2 software I believe.

Checkout the vmoro gapless SS band on Amazon, makes this watch look like a classic Swiss watch.

      • +4

What if you use a non Samsung phone do you get less functionality or what happens with its features?

        • +2

I've got the galaxy watch 46 LTE with a pixel 2xl, and I don't think I'm missing anything. Samsung Pay, LTE calls without the phone, connected to Jabra earphones all work well.
Samsung health doesn't integrate with Google fit out of the box, but I use an app called HealthSync to sync it up. Does a pretty good job.
As someone said earlier, Bixby is a joke, but that's regardless of what phone you're using.
Re the HRM,I compared it to the HRM on the gym equipment at my gym and it was pretty much spot on to it. Having said that, I don't know how accurate the gym machines are!

But yeah, as someone who had the original Moto 360, loved it, and held out a LONG time to replace it waiting for the right watch, while not perfect, I think these are the best all-rounders out there.

      • @noise36 can I just check the source for galaxy watch active 2 actually having accurate heart rate monitoring when exercising? It's the reason I bought my GWA1 and I'd seriously consider an upgrade if they've actually sorted it.

    • Apple watch.

      • True, Apple Watch is currently the best overall, functionally.
Aside from the square face being less pretty, it has one major drawback: it only supports IOS.

I really hope they add Android support, just as they added Windows support for the iPod and iTunes many years ago.

        • They won't add android support. Otherwise they can't make you stay in Apple ecosystem which you have to use iOS

          • +2

@neonlight: I reckon they will eventually once the Apple Watch is built out into a massive platform all on its own. Which might be sooner than people think given the number you see around. If that happens there will of course still be features that only work in iOS.

Back on topic: the galaxy would have to be the best android smart watch wouldn’t it?

  • Tempting, but I'm holding out for a Samsung Active 2

    • Pros and cons of each? Looks like you can get the Active 2 for ~$300-350 from Ebay/FB/Gumtree etc.

      • I am leaning towards the Active 2 due to the speaker (as opposed to just a mic), the touch bezel (as opposed to the physical dial) and the much more modern look and dimensions of the Active 2 (46mm and 13mm high is way too chunky for me, the Active 2 is smaller but has a bigger screen).

The Galaxy watch does have superb battery life though.

        • +1

What do you mean by 'just a mic'? GW has a speaker and can make/receive calls. And, by the way, physical dial makes the watch more fun and easier to use (but that's my personal opinion/preference).

          • @mangoed: Oops, I stand corrected on the speaker then.

            • +3

@WorkingLowJam: I'm a lil upset I got the Active 2 before seeing this price for the GW.
Paid $510 at Harvey Norman the other day, so that's brutal price difference… but I do get the ear buds via redemption so that largely cancels it out.

Very pleased with the GWA2 so far. Part of the reason I went with the Active 2 was because it is newer, it should be supported for longer.
I was burnt with both the Pebble and the Sony Smartwatch 3. Both were great devices, which were hobbled in due course for different reasons.

  • Can you post the whole catalogue?

  • want this posted yesterday with the other JB deals?

  • Wish it was the LTE version :(

  • +1

This watch is about a year old now I think and new tech will be coming (as always).

Should also consider the ticwatch brand as I just got the E2 via this $179 deal with extra charger which might come back for Black Friday.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/492392

However, I think this Samsung has a better battery life and wireless charging.

  • Guys, I want to claim TRS. But this is under $300 any ideas how to get it over?

Can I buy something together with this on same tax invoice then claim at TRS? Will they accept it? Please help thanks all….

    • +2

So long as your total invoice value is over $300 you're fine :)

      • Thanks so I dun need to explain I bought a cable for $5 for example lol

        • Nope. If they were really annoying they could ask you to reproduce said cable but you'll be fine to claim your GST back at that point.

        • You need to keep items in your carry on for inspection. Minimum $300 within 60 days from one seller.

    • +3

It needn't be $300 on the one receipt, it can be multiple receipts from the same business (ABN) totalling $300 or more.

      • Yes although it's safer to buy it from same shop hard to know if another jbhifi have different ABN

        • Yes, you'd need to buy from the same store.

Just means if you buy additional electronic before you travel, even if they are under $300 they can be jointly claimed.

  • silly question, dos anyone know an actual watch similar to that face? I really like the look of it but don't want a smart watch. looks really good

    • +1

I think they base the design off Tag Heuer Carerra watches

    • +1

Go into Ali and type "mens chronograph watch".

      • Thank you both!

        • +1

I you do end up with a smart watch, the design in called 'Tomcat' by Samsung

          • +1

@Austaurean: Thanks for that. It’s too much connectivity for me personally. Blueboy03 is right, it’s a copy of Tag Heuer Carrera. But that one is way to expensive, so went on a search to find the copy of the original inspiration…long story short Casio edifice is the one ))

  • +1

Does this have nfc that supports google pay?

    • +1

It supports Samsung Pay, and it works with most contactless card readers.

      • Do you know if it works on myki as well?

        • No. The version of Google Pay used by wearables, such as watches, is a light version which doesn't support Mobile myki.

  • +14

Wow! I intentionally bought them today for $549 at HN keeping in mind that they would be on sale there for $349 on Tuesday.
now I have my 28° card with price protection which now I am going to use against th offer fromt jb hi-fi, so should claim my $249 back in 5 days.
Moreover, I am flying overseas for a business trip that means I can get my %10 via TRS Scheme. 10% of $549 rather than $349 i.e. extra $20.
I am feeling myself like George Soros.

    • +2

What's the price protection for 28degrees card?

And is the Samsung watch on sale at HN $349 Tuesday?

      • I have been using their standard price protection for 2 years, so far, I have saved around ~2K in total. I am pretty sure other credit card providers also offer something similar (I know for sure, Coles offer credit cards with protection).
Yes, Galaxy Watches are on sale starting on Tuesday but for $349, the dude from HN checked in their system for me, Anyway, JB Hi-Fi is a $50 better option.

    • i'm considering the Active 2 to get the free buds (not that I want them) and then price protection claim later when it's cheaper but no free buds.

But then I don't really want the watch either. It was just a good deal (eventually).

  • +2

If this had the 42mm, I'd jump right on it. My wrist is tiny.

    • +2

      Don't break it

Try wearing it first before you jump on it

  • +2

Worth checking out Amazon on the day. They are likely to match the price, and if last year is any guide, there will be 15% cash back to boot.

  • Is there any way to justify upgrading to this from a gear s3 frontier?

    • If only - I'm in the same boat. Unless your battery is borked, no, there is no way to justify this.

    • I guess the One UI 1.5 update that was release recently?

    • Same. Im only considering because of better water protection. Otherwise not worth it imho

    • Mine's on the blink, it freezes up a ton, connection with the phone drops out regularly. Battery life is kinda crap too

    • I have a Frontier and I would say, no, not really.
and as others have commented, only if something is wrong with your Frontier.
And then there is warranty to consider where valid.

    • In your opinion, is it worth getting a new S3 Frontier for $140?

      • S3 Frontier for $140? How and where?

        • I have Credit Card points which are otherwise pretty useless.
          I could redeem $200 or get a S3 Frontier for $143.

I mean, buying a S3 Frontier brand new outright is $398 @ JB.

      • Probably, that's a great price.

      • I like mine, so I would say yes, well worth it for $140, but I guess the new variant has some better features.
Considering how much the new variant is discounted at the moment, that is a good buy as well.

  • +1

I paid $370 a few months ago after being frustrated by Wear OS. My life is so much better now, even though Galaxy app store is a joke. Great watch, even better at $300.

  • Nice deal - I've got the Gear S3 but would have preferred this at this price.

Is anyone using a Samsung Gear/Galaxy watch with a Xiaomi phone?
Until yesterday I have been using Samsung phones for the last 6 years - but just moved to Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite.

Whenever I hit the X to close all running applications, my Gear S3 watch instantly loses Bluetooth connection with the phone.
When I reopen the Galaxy Wearable app they reconnect again.

    • +1

Are you able to lock a app on your phone? So when you press X to close all, it stays open unless you flick it away

      • Thanks, yes I can lock an app so it's not closed by the X.
It didn't seem to work - I also changed the Wearable app to auto start and disabled battery management for that app.
Now when I hit X to close all the Wearable app remains open - however the Bluetooth connection still drops - but after 5 seconds it reconnects. Every time.
That's a good enough work around for now.

  • Great price for this watch. I was deciding between this and the Amazfit GTR. In the end I went with the Amazfit GTR due to looks and being better suited to the functionality I was realistically going to use, versus the size/weight/cost considerations.

Given $299 is only about $100 more than the Amazfit, this deal makes it a much harder decision to make!

    • Love my Amazfit Gtr..

    • Does it have google pay? Iam looking something on 200 price range with NFC and music support (spotify)

  • Does anyone understand how the music side of it works? Is it possible to play music from watch to headphones without phone nearby? Also is it possible if you do have phone with you for both your galaxy watch and Bluetooth earbuds to be connected to your phone same time? Sorry for noob questions…

    • I just got the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, which should be the same for the functionality you are talking about.
Offline music works with both Spotify and random mp3's apparently. I haven't tried spotify, but mp3s definitely work fine.

Not sure about your second question, sorry.

    • You can do both those things but you will have to store music locally on the watch if you want music to play without the phone.

    • Thanks

    • I believe it can pair to Bluetooth headphones, and it has 4gb of internal storage for songs like Spotify offline, and for your second question yes

      • thanks, in regards to the second question. How? Thank you!

        • I am unsure as I don't have one, but I have seen around online that you can, sorry for not being much of help
