Op when do you sleep :p

    • Who in their right mind want the grey?

      • +1

I prefer the grey - it's a bit less childish on the train.

        • Ur right..

          • +1

@capslock janitor: I used flybuys points to buy my switch at Target.

Unfortunately for me they only had the neon console in stock.

Fortunately for me I needed to buy a second set of joycons as I often have more than two players and parent target had grey joycons in stock.

Fortunately for me the only difference between the two consoles are the joycons which are easily swapped.

  • +5

Can confirm by the skus that it’s the new model. Great deal!

    • +3

Yes indeed. The catalogue has two SKUs 383553 and 383558 ( can see if you zoom the catalogue pic )
Searching on Jb Hi-Fi website with these codes take you to 2019 models.

    • Ok I just picked up mine from JB and it’s definitely the new packaging but the contents says Nintendo Switch Console (HAC-001). My understanding is that is the old model number and the new one is HAC-001(-01). Can anyone advise based on this info if it’s the new or old?

      • If your serial number starts with XKW you have the new model.

        • picking up mine tomorrow, gonna check that XKW :(

        • Yep serial starts with XKW and checked on the device itself where model number is HAC-001(-01).

          • @chomper: No problem.

            • @Drewbo: I just bought one it's the new model. They said they will email the Mario bonus offer code in the next 24 hours….. why don't I believe this

              • @Jolim90: Yeah, I would be on their case right from opening time tomorrow. They ran out of codes last year with no compensation to buyers. You need to act fast.

                • @Drewbo: Because I did cluck and collect they won't give it to me! The store peoe seem so confused that head office already advertised it! If I don't get it I'll probably just return it =(

      • +1

        NEW MODEL. GREAT DEAL.
There will be other retailers who do bundles, but this has the advantage of being a downloadable version of Mario Kart. I like download games, as they're more portable and you can't lose them.

Plus, because it's the download version, the Nintendo Switch model is the new one. The bundled Switch + Mario physical version has the older model of Switch.

Read this report about Black Friday Switch deals:
        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/…

So support the local retailer (JB-HiFi), rather than the US giant Amazon that doesn't pay much tax in Australia, and you'll get the new model Switch. Get your click & collect order into JB-HiFi quickly, as last year the Nintendo Switch sold out at many retailers, and lots of people were disappointed.

  • +1

    What's the difference ?

    • +2

The new model has a much better battery life.

      • +2

        and better internals

  • how big are those Switch games? how big of a SD card can a Switch takes?

    • +1

Switch games rarely exceed 10gb, a huge proportion of games available on the store are 500mb or less (games like the Witcher 3 and the Spyro trilogy are about 35gb).

Biggest SD card I've tried is 512gb.

      • +1

It is built to take up to 2TB card, but 512gb until larger becomes readily available and economical will do you fine.

        • What about save files? Are we still not able to save game data to sd card?
Nintendo still monetizing this to force people into buying the Nintendo Online subscription?

  • That's cheap?

    • +1

Yes. The cheapest before this sale was around $390 with no game/s.

  • +8

Less trickle feed deals please. Add full JB catalog.

    • +3

The first JB deal had the full catalogue, people are just reposting individual pages now.

      • I don't think it was there when the deal was first posted as I upvoted it but don't remember those scan links. Thanks for the tip though!

  • If I’m on a plane, can I still play downloaded games?

    • Yes

      • so the question is when I can't play downloaded games

        • in the moon

        • You can play downloaded games anytime. Only time I can think of is when you try to play the subscription games (the NES, SNES games) that you get through Nintendo Switch Online that requires you to be connected to the internet every 7 days or something to make sure your subscription is still on-going). Oh, and if the battery is dead?

  • Can you the Switch to watch Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, etc on the TV and the portable device?

    • Nope to most streaming services, yes to YouTube (I believe this is still a yes?)

      • Yes to YouTube. No to everything else.

        • +3

Oh darn. Heck, even the Wii U had Netflix!

          Come on, Nintendo!

          • +4

@silverrat23: Huge shame too. Switch would be the ultimate portable media consumption device.

            • @DASHCAM NOW DUDE: Unless your phone is a potato, chances are it'll be a better media consumption device than the Switch given its low res screen, average battery life and weight.

(Don't get me wrong, love the Switch, have an OG with CFW and a Lite.)

              • +1

@xyron: 720p is good enough. Kick stand for table top. Stereo sound speakers. All the games with physical controls.

I don't want all those things on my phone. It'll kill the battery on it. I prefer a seperate device.

  • so if i want to download the game, i'll need to purchase an additional miscrosd card?

    • 32GB onboard. ( minus OS) But highly recommended to have microsd card

    • It has 32gb internal storage, but the OS uses some of that. So you can install a few games I'd guess.

Mario Kart is about 7gb according to my googling.

  • What's a good microsd card for these? I'm assuming unlike a dashcam they don't need to be particularly special

    • +4

well Nintendo recommends cards with write speed of 80 mb/s or over. either Samsung EVO plus or Sandisk ultra would be enough

    • +3

I'd recommend the Samsung EVO Plus, that appears on OzBargain frequently.

Don't buy the 'Official Memory Card' as they are just a reskined Sandisk Memory Card with the Nintendo Tax applied.

who else is going to feed ya dog from anywhere

    • -2

      a giraffe

  • Apparently last year, the codes for mario kart ran out in the first hour, so may be a huge struggle to get the deal.

    • Was that online or in-store? Or is there no difference?

      • This was in-store, not sure about online

        • I went to my local JB hifi and asked for the deal.
The guy at the game section said it is in store only.

    • +1

IMO, it was better from Amazon AU last year as they gave a Physical Copy of the game, instead of the Digital.

JB Hi-Fi deal was only better if you have Gift Cards or prefer Digital Games.

      • +2

Mario Kart is one of those games that you want always on console digitally IMO

Unless of course you want to sell it, digital is the way for such a good pick up and play game.

        • +7

I personally prefer Physical Copy for the following reasons:

          • Share the game with friends/family
          • Looks nice on a shelf
          • Easier to sell
          • Always available (for when Nintendo Switch Server shut down in the distance future, preventing you from re-downloading)
          • +2

@RichardL: I'm definitely with you on this. If portability is important to you, physical is the way to go.

          • +1

@RichardL: For me Mario Kart is never a game that I'd sell (on any platform), fair enough on the other points though.

  • Could we anticipate any deals with Pokémon or even Zelda or Mario Odyssey? Not into Mario Kart so even a Switch without any games for cheaper than the $369 at Target (eg $349) would be good

    • +2

I highly doubt it. The Switch deal for the majority of retailers has been released/leaked.

      Big W: Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle - $429
      JB Hi-Fi: This deal
Target: Nintendo Switch Console - $369

Only major retailer left are Amazon AU, Harvey Norman & EB Games.

UPDATE: Harvey Norman has the Console for $398, seen here and EB Games appears to have the same Bundle as JB Hi-Fi. Only one left is Amazon AU.

      • thanks OP, def. buying a switch this week, still I'm hoping Amazon will price match at least one of the deals above

as Greedog mentioned above, I'm afraid by the time I get to a Jb store, the digital codes will run out

Apparently last year, the codes for mario kart ran out in the first hour, so may be a huge struggle to get the deal.

      • +3

My local EB was quiet this morning and the guy there was going through their marketing sheet on the counter, so I asked him about this weekends sales. He flipped through and showed me the page marked 28th November and it too had the Switch console and Mario Deluxe (physical copy) for $399.

He stressed to me that he's still yet to receive the comprehensive one for Black Friday(he thinks he'll get it tomorrow / Wednesday at the latest) so to check back then. He said in previous years they've changed deals at the last minute depending on what other retailers were doing so not to bank on it.

Totally anecdotal, because he wasn't comfortable with me taking a photo of it.

  • Meanwhile waiting for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to go below amazon's RRP

  • +1

If the codes run out for Mario Kart quick i wonder if they’ll give you a physical copy instead?

    • They didn’t last time, doubt they do it this time.
Couldn’t even get a deal or freebie of screen cover just standard discount on peripherals that’s it not even on games 🙁

  • Very very good deal.

  • -4

Not a single Nintendo switch game on sale for Black friday?!

And people say there is no cartel?!

    Ignorant and naive.

  • +1

    Noob question…

Are there cheap games that play on the switch? Like older games?

    • +1

Not really. Most AAA Games are still the same price as when they were released years ago (Typical Nintendo).

Only cheap games are Digital Indie Games from the Nintendo eShop.

  • Well America are def. Getting some good switch games on sale. Aren't we? Haven't found anything yet…

  • Anyone know if the redemption code for Mario Kart can be used in the USA Nintendo eStore?

  • Does JB Hi-Fi website accept payment using multiple gift cards? Can't find that info on their T&C/FAQ.

    • +2

How many do you have? I think it cuts you off after 5 (maybe 7?) but you can get around it by consolidating your gift cards beforehand. JB online allows you to buy JB egift cards with JB egift cards so you can roll all your gift cards into one ahead of time.

      • I have 4. Thanks for the tips! Didn't know I can consolidate them, very handy.

    • I purchased online using two separate gift cards

  • Anyone tried to price match Target $369 deal and still get the Mario Kart 8 code?

    • JB Hi-Fi will most likely claim it a different product/bundle, so won't price-match.

  • So would the prices for these usually change over as of midnight?

    • +1

Usually after midnight (not exactly at 12am).

      • Thanks. Though I've also just read comments above that it may be an in-store only deal? So I'll have to wait and see.

        • +1

Deal is active now, $10 cheaper.

  • +2

Is there a time limit to download the game once you get the code?

  • is this deals available online?

    • +1

Not sure, hasn't started yet. We'll find out tomorrow.

    • +1

      Update: available online.

  • Maybe go to Target and try price matching Jbhifi and Target might give you a physical copy of mk8d?

    • I doubt it. Target also struggling with stock levels.

  • I just read about this on the Target post that they were including the code for $369 but it’s sold out nationwide now

    • Do you think they will restock it as soon?

  • +1

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/nintendo-switch-console-n… Uhh… Is it live right now for $10 cheaper?

    • Yep, updated.

      Thanks.

  • +1

Bought one from highpoint for 389. The sales guy was confused with the price as the price still 449. Can't get the game code though as it is still not in their system. The guy promised to email the code tomorrow.

  • Christmas sorted. Thanks!

  • Amazon.com.au just price matched also going for $389 https://amzn.to/33uPWUm

    • No bonus Mario Kart 8, from what I can tell.

    • You reckon it is likely it will drop come midnight?
