Logitech Z623 2.1 Speaker System $119 @ JB Hi-Fi

80

Not a bad price considering RRP is $249.95 from Logitech directly.

But it gets better - currently $168 at Harvey Norman or $247 at Officeworks, so possible price beat.

I'm not sure how these sound but they're THX certified, so should at least be decent for non-professional use.

These speakers were regularly under $100 at the beginning of the year.

    • Ahh, thank you for the heads up! I need speakers pretty urgently though and is the best I could find for the moment.

I know they are THX certified but you can do better

        • Definitely open to suggestions - anything you can recommend for a similar price point?

No thump in the trunk but bass can get f**king annoying!

          • +1

@mouzii: The Logitech z533 is only $99 at JB and is similar enough to the z623 sound quality wise (a little lower but also reflected in price). Bonus also the volume knob is separated from the speakers. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/logitech-z533-multimedia-…

            • @Meeb: Ahh, very interesting! Don't know how I missed those - definitely an option!

              • +1

@mouzii: I would definitely recommend the z533 for a PC, the bass is not as loud as the z623 but otherwise the sound quality is great. The separate volume knob is something that is very handy. I own two sets of the z533's and they have both been going strong for over a year with no issues at all.

                • @Meeb: Hi, how do you think is the sound quality of the Bose SoundLink Mini II compared to Logitech Z623 speakers and Edifier R1280?

              • @mouzii: Did you DEFINITELY want a 2.1? No problem if you do. Not trying to sway you either way, I've got a Z623 here doing nothing. Just outdated tech now :(

@kronicmacstigator: I like the idea of a sub, as we'll be using these for our second TV (which is actually a high-end monitor connected to a Vodafone TV for Netflix and free to air TV). I guess I could always turn the bass down, but this is one of those "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it moments". :)

                  • @mouzii: That's cool :)

Maybe a soundbar and woofer combo?

                    • @kronicmacstigator: Hi, how do you think is the sound quality of the Bose SoundLink Mini II compared to Logitech Z623 speakers and Edifier R1280?

@El Psy Kongroo: I have absolutely no idea. I have the Z623 which I really like but would not hesitate to buy the R1280. Subwoofers get old REAL quick!

                • @kronicmacstigator: Any high end recommendations? I'm looking for a set for my pc

These speakers produce nice sound but be aware that this model has a pretty annoying power button issue that surfaces after a while (sometimes speakers wont turn on when pressed due to dust accumulating inside over time). I had two sets and both succumbed to the power button problem after a couple of years. Also the analogue volume knob is prone to making hissing/crackling sounds when adjusting volume due to it's potentiometer (again usually due to dust accumulating inside the unit over time). Both the volume knob and power button are difficult to remove and clean due to desing - in fact you have to take apart the whole speaker to clean them.

Just google "logitech z623 power button fix" and you will find plenty of threads about this.

    • Good to know, thanks Meeb! It looks like these are covered by a 2-year warranty so I'm willing to risk it, if the sound is decent, which it seems like it is. Seems difficult to find an alternative at a similar price.

      • I posted a good alternative that I actually upgraded/downgraded from the z633. Also warranty wont really solve the issue and you may be out of speakers once the crackling/power issues start if you send them in under warranty.

    • I agree with this as an issue that I've faced for a long time owning these speakers.
But you don't have to take apart the speakers to get (at least a medium term) solution. The volume and bass knobs can be pried off, and just spray some contact cleaner while turning the knobs in both directions.
For the power knob, spray the contact cleaner into the gaps and press/jiggle the knob. This knob doesn't pry off.
Haven't had crackle in a few months (whereas just compressed air and turning the knobs only fixed it for a few days)

Yes I did similar band-aid solutions for years but it gets annoying after having to do it for like the umptieth time and it continues to get worse over time.

These speakers sound amazing - nice clean highs - and crisp bass. Solid unit. Not bad for the price.

  • keep thinking i should repleace my old z4's….but they are stil kicking after nearly 15yrs :P

  • What's the best super cheap 2.1 system? (Say less than $50?) I need a set off cheapies for my daughter's computer (mainly for watching YouTube)

  • I saw in the JB Hi-fi Black Friday catalogue that there's 20% off Logitech speakers, do you think these will be 20% off this price or still this price?

    • I've been told that these have been less than $100 previously, so possibly?

Great speakers. I had a Logitech x530 5.1 system for about 10 years then upgraded to these puppies a few months ago. I would recommend looking on fb marketplace, I found mine for $50, only a couple months old, and got a copy of the receipt (for warranty).

    • that's an awesome find!

      • Don't buy these secondhand unless they are still under warranty just friendly advice.

You can turn these up way beyond the point where you will damage them
        Over years they will wear

But for $50 with a receipt that's pretty bloody good

        • Yes you are right as this system has been around for a long time and you could get an old one. You can tell if you look on the logo on the main speaker whether it has the newer or older Logitech logo.

But if you get a receipt on a near new system, it's great as they have a 2 year warranty!

    • My X530 are still going strong

      • Mine still work too, I think they will last forever. The sound seems to have diluted a little and is not as clear as it once was though.

        • +1

Currently stalking Amazon/Aliexpress for a DAC with the 3 PC speaker outputs.

  • Mine are still kicking along I do I occasionally get the crackle usually only when turning them down to basically nothing I keep them on about a quarter I turn them off and on multiple times every single day never leave them on overnight and my power button still works perfect
But I've definitely seen that these issues are a known thing

I have one and I use it as a TV speaker in the living room and for occassional music listening. It produces great sound especially when watching movies. Mine's like more than 5 years old and still works.

I did have the crackling power button issue. So what I did was I added on a bluetooth receiver and plugged them both in a smart plug. Whenever I wanted to turn on the speakers I just ask Alexa. Works like a charm. You can add chromecast audio if you use chromecast audio apps.

    • That is awesome.

    • What bluetooth receiver and smart plug do you use? I've been looking for a way to change the volume of my z623 without getting off the couch.

      • I bought a cheap/generic 3.5mm bluetooth receiver from ebay. I couldn't remember what it was. Bought it a few years ago for less than $3. The only drawback is the bluetooth range is short (about 5 metres, maybe because it sits behind the TV? IDK). I guess the more expensive models has more range.
