  • not a bad price but night be worth comparing it with kogan at this price point.

    • Agreed. And saying "arm cortex A8" is a bit like saying 2.0 litre 4 cyl, to use a dodgy car analogy.

You could be comparing a side valve 2.0l diesel vs a 2.0l 20v supercharged. They are both 2.0l 4 cyl, but very different performance.

Stick with (arm cortex) CPUs made by Qualcomm, Samsung, TI, nvidia. Everything else is crap. So if it doesn't specify the chip maker at all, assume the worst.

    • Other little catches:
      1. No 3G
      2. 8GB is actually 4GB internal memory + 4GB SD. Now, the 4GB internal memory… dunno how much is allocated to apps.

Just use App2Sd. Can also use Link2SD to install to Sd card.

    Considering the name ……

    Cheaper @ DealExtreme. =P

    • That one you link to is resistive screen

Sheesh.. Sorry - see below. Faster unit, same look, cheaper.

        Still not happy?

This is just a generic Android tablet….. Nothing special to see here.

        • You did see that tantryl posted one minute later than me, right? So I see it now, thanks for pointing it out.

This seems to be a slightly higher CPU (extra 0.2GHz) version of the exact same thing for ~$151.

However it will take much longer to get here and undoubtedly have much crappier warranty and support.

EDIT Good idea from the DXtreme fellas. Import pallet-loads of generic tablets, customise, provide better support, and mark it up ~50%+.

  • dont know if they are from deal extreme or just generic…still seemes like a decent tablet (compared to the generics)

    • In what way does it seem decent (or even different) comparative to the generics?

      • australian support and multiple stores have the same model, so not really that generic.

So the only differences are the ones I mentioned earlier? That the support might (let's face it, it's only might at this early stage) be better?

It seems clear it's a generic model that they're renamed and possibly had mild software changes (probably just branding ones). Not unlike the difference between a Samsung Galaxy Tab bought from Optus or Telstra.

EDIT Heh, the better support is definitely a "maybe". Check out the awesome page numbering in the manual: http://dxtreme.com.au/manual/D703%20Manual.pdf . And it's 25MB for a 40 page mostly black & white manual… they don't know much about making PDFs either.

EDIT2 The screenshots in the jumbled manual make it pretty clear it's a Joyplus Group rebadge, or at least the Android OS guide part of the PDF was stolen from them.

EDIT3 Now I've actually read some of the manual too… awesome Engrish. Clearly either the DXtreme folk are not native English speakers or, more likely, they just ripped the majority of the manual from the original manufacturer or another rebadger. That they haven't even bothered to re-write the manual into non-Engrish English isn't a major sign their support won't be great, but it's not encouraging either.

        • will be interesting to see if ht fixed the manual then…

    • umm translate please ? otherwise you sound spammy

      okay you are a spammer

      • SPAMMER or something wrong with this user

        Classic… lol

        • lol - Now I want to know what they said ;-)

      • I think they were making a joke based on this post: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49632

        • Actually it wasnt related to anything sensible, just raving how good dx are/were

        • He was trying to upsell some droids, so the mods decided to force throw him into the penalty box.

        • @Mikinoz - They used the phrase "lowest price in world wide". Unless it's the same person with a different account, I find it unlikely they're not somehow linked…

If you search Dropad A8 in DX. The spec (except it is 4GB) will be better than this and cheaper as well.
