Where is that 1$ deal ?

    • +13

Same here. My work colleague got targeted for the $1 ebay plus membership and now I refuse to pay anymore than he did. I get my ebay stuff through him

      • +9

        Same I'm not paying $29

EBay plus only worth $1 in my eyes

        • +1

I would pay $29 for it since I get an okay amount and should benefit from it over the course of a year from the free shipping. But the fact that someone got it significantly cheaper just makes me not fork out the money, haha

        • They should pay us $49 to join. I never seen anything decent to get during the free trial

          • @ePayn: So if you never buy anything from ebay, what made you think it would be worth it?

            • @banana365: Where does he say he doesn't buy anything from ebay?

I buy lots of stuff from ebay… but very few plus items.

      • Could use a new account and make use of a trial?

    • +7

Where is that 1$ deal ?

Last month, we got paid $1 to join…

      • It was targeted not everyone got it.

        What a pity

        • 29 times exxy ehhe

          • +5

@capslock janitor: ebay's so expensive. GST ruined the whole website

            • @[Deactivated]: Especially with the Global shipping extra markup (more than the GST cost).

      • +1

You get a voucher that is technically worth $1 more than the eBay Plus membership fee. However, the voucher is restricted.

No, you did not get paid $1 to join. You paid $49 for the membership + an feeBay item that's priced at $50.

        • +1

          However, the voucher is restricted.

I had not problem buying the stuff I was going to get anyway…

So I got paid $1 to join.

Not only that, but I saved on shipping on those items because I was now on ebay plus… Some I'm around $11 ahead so far.

@jv: How much for your other head/s?

(Always tough growing up as the child of close cousins.)

    • +1

I signed up for $1 last month, but they charged $48.99. I'm still waiting for the refund.

    • I missed the $1 promotion. Not gonna pay $29. I don't think it's worth it. If needed I can use friend's plus account ;)

Amazon breathing down ebays neck and threatening their dominance in the Aus online shopping scene. Good stuff

    • +1

Amazon Au sucks. I see no competition there.

      • Ya. It sucks ball. The only time that I bought from Amazon Au was to buy from Amazon US. This year gst killed everything. Lasr year I was able to buy oversea without gst.

      • +1

Yeah Amazon is having trouble competing with Shopping Square/Apus and their endless micro sd card deals /s

    • Australia tax is alive and well on Amazon AU…
few mths ago I was looking at camp chairs in US were 1/5th the price of Amazon AU..

  • +6

Has anyone actually purchased Plus and benefited from it in the long run?

    • Once with eneloops. Personally I don't think it's worth most of my shopping has been with Amazon of late

    • +1

Yeah, I've easily saved over $100 in shipping and more with the ability to return things for free - E.g. I bought 2007 car mats for my 2006 car knowing they might not fit but did anyway knowing I could return for free :) (they did fit - win)

    • I've saved a bit when buying Pop Vinyls on eBay because I was also using the odd $10 voucher earned via Flybuys. But my eBay Plus expired and I haven't renewed. It's only worth it with a sign up deal.

    • Coles had a $49 discount for all plus members with spending over 99$ a whole back. Free returns worked well for me in few cases.

    • I am on eBay Plus now but I haven't had any benefit from it. Obviously different for others who may have got some good value out of it.
I'm not renewing at the end of this period. Think I'll give Amazon a crack instead for a year.

    • Not really in the first year. But I've noticed recently sellers have finally started charging postage but you get free postage with Ebay Plus which is how it SHOULD be.

    • No, but their UI prevented my from cancelling the crap service, and then they refused to cancel it and kept my $48.99 and PayPal said tough sh!t.

    • I brought a heap of stuff especially computer parts easily saved $150 in shipping. Worth it for me, others may not.

    • Samsung T5 1TB SSD for $79

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/475524

      COD: Modern Warfare for $49

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/489418

      Switch Lite for $229

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483919

Few of the purchases I have made which I am glad to have eBay Plus for.

    • I got my first year for $29, got 2 'guaranteed' deliveries that failed to deliver on time and got $10 credit each, and probably bought 2 SD card and 2 SSD 'deals' where there was free shipping for eBay Plus. On aggregate after all said an done I probably broke even.

Haven't bothered since, it doesn't look like I'd ever be ahead on it. Amusingly it makes me buy LESS from eBay. With 'free' shipping things are occasionally a couple of dollars cheaper but with the shipping it's like $10 more, so I find myself just not even bothering to look at eBay and just shop elsewhere.

Still I guess not a stupid as Kogan's sub service. I guess they saw eBay's 'that looks like terrible value really' and said 'challenge accepted'.

    • I only bought a pair of Timberland boots. And the price wasn't the cheapest. Not many members only offers. Probably not worth to renew the membership.

  • +5

Probably better opting for the $30 Gift Card with renewal, effectively making it $19.

    • +2

I did but only received $20. This is eBay's response… I think this should be referred to ACCC.

Thank you for contacting eBay about the $30.00 gift card offer you took.
We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. The gift card is only for $20.00 and not $30.00, again we're sorry. We can offer you an eBay voucher of $20.00, which is good for a month and you can use it for 10 items, but it can only be used in one go.

      Folllow up:
Thank you for getting back to us about this.
The way the gift card was made is that the difference is given at a later date. It could take days or a couple of weeks before our member receives it.
The reason behind the $20.00 voucher offer we're doing is to provide an alternative option for our members since we understand that they were expecting $30.00 gift card upon accepting the offer.
We're sorry this was not properly advertised in the ad, but we're looking for ways to make our eBay plus members happy with the service we're giving therefore we're offering the $20.00.

      • +4

eBay have become criminal to both shoppers and sellers.

      • I got a similar response. They claimed it was a mistake to advertise to me that I would get the cashback.

The last email I got from eBay said
"this promotion of $30 is flawed and most members who are ineligible receives the notification."

        Seems dodgy.

  • +1

Amazon Prime to respond would be nice

    • While it would be nice they don't need to, this is most likely eBay trying to recover customers back from amazon

      • +2

Unlikely. Their plus sub is crap

    • +1

Prime is actually really good, it’s worth every penny I paid for. I paid plus last year and the support I get was rubbish, now on the $1 deal from a month or 2 ago, haven’t bought a thing yet.

Big changes coming to eBay plus membership 1/12/19, not for the better…

    • +7

      what are the changes

      • +6

        Big !!!

    • +1

      It's a game changer

  • Argh! I just signed up yesterday!

    • +11

      yesterday!

all your troubles seemed so far away…

        OK Boomer

        • No worries Zoomer.

  • Am I the only one that signs up and cancels free trials once something decent comes along?

    • +3

      Yes

    • +2

How many times can do that?

  • Can I apply for it even my eBay plus is not expiring?
    Thx

    • No

  • +2

Buyer beware, once you click pay you will probably pay full price and there will nothing you can do about it, they have ripped hundreds of people

    • They sure have.

  • How convenient, right after the Xmas/Boxing Day madness.

  • +1

The most annoying thing on eBay Plus is that they keep asking you to subscribe even when you are logged in and already a Plus member. The "join now" ads shouldn't be showing up if I am a Plus member already (even if that's a trial).

  • how can i use ozb reminder?

    • Under the deal, look between the social media icons and the 'Related Stores' - there's a Reminder button with a bell icon.

  • When and if all sellers offer free delivery through eBay plus I might consider joining

    There are too many restrictions

Where my Amazon prime membership is worth every cent as the wife can stream her shows and the amount I buy from Amazon (at least once a week) is a no brainer

  • Wish ebay has the 50$ deal every year :D

  • I signed up when it first came out. Savings on delivery weren't great, but I got my money back when having to send a faulty item back. Something that's not always obvious. I'm happy to pay Prime membership because there are multiple benefits compared to the lame EB+ membership, but for $29 compared to $49, I might reconsider. Thanks O.P.

  • Unfortunately, this promotional offer isn't available to you.

  • Can someone who has signed up for this confirm that they got charged the advertised $29 to their credit card/paypal account?

Multiple stories of ebay saying its only $x, but then still charging $49 to your card/paypal and hoping you don't notice.

    • I can confirm that I got charged $29.

  • +2

195 likes and 2075 clicks for a dud deal. Wow.

  • Partner signed up with email - $50 gift card for $49 payment.
Still hasn't received gift card - week or so from the sign up now.

    • Got the same deal, received my $50 GC via email just a few days after

  • Still no one is having ebay plus until now? LOL!

  • Got paid $21 (50 dollar targeted gift card and joined eBay plus for $29!) to join eBay plus, finally a worthwhile deal from eBay….

    • Hey mate, can I ask how you did this? I have the $50 targeted offer - which deal do I sign up through in order to get the voucher plus $29 fee?

      • +1

I simply clicked the "take this offer" button in the targeted message in my ebay account and it directed me to the page with the promotional offer of 29 dollars for ebay plus. After I sign in through PayPal and confirmed, I was given a message saying that my $50 gift card would arrive in a few weeks. The ebay chat people said it should arrive in less than 19 business days so hoping for the best!

  • I just signed up using the eBay App. It stated $29 for the first year, expiring 3 January 2021. eBay Plus is showing as active on my account but nothing has been charged to my credit card (or PayPal) yet…

    • I just got charged $29, so all good.

  • Waste of money. Amazon Prime is way better!

  • Can i activate trial then buy this on top to make 13 months?
    anybody tested it?

    • Yes and no you can't.

  • +6

Amazon Prime is only $59/year where you can get amazon music, amazon prime video, 2-day shipping (not nationwide) and other benefits.

Aside from a few deals here and there, I don't see why eBay Plus is better than amazon prime.

  • +2

Never been an eBay fan since the beginning. Dodgy sellers and unhelpful eBay refund policies.

  • I forgot to cancel my trial so I paid $49 two days ago, welp. This deal looks very good from here!

  • Make sure you're actually only charged 29. Lot's of people got stung with $49 when they were only supposed to pay $1(one)

    • This happened to me :( Do you know if these people have been reimbursed?

  • +1

I just looked at my orders from amazon Aus and I have placed 77 orders in 2019 so my prime sub has paid for itself many times over

I cant see ebay plus ever paying for itself as it has too many restrictions
