A Warning about FTC Computers - Based on My Experience

I thought it may not be a bad idea for this forum post given how often FTC Computers deals are posted on this site. Admin feel free to delete not allowed.

I bought 2080 ti graphics card from FTC Computers ebay store based on the fact I see their deals posted here all the time. The listing said orders are sent via auspost 1 day after payment.

I am now 5 days after payment and 4 days since they marked my package as shipped. When I check the shipping it say scheduled for pick up tomorrow!

I went back to the deals and found that a whole heap of OzBargainers have experience this poor business.

I have tried to contact them, but like other users here, no luck.

I thought it was only fair to post a topic for people considering buying from this business, that their FoS with their delivery times. And they may want to factor it in.

Hopefully this post will pop when people search FTC Computers. Feel free to add your stories if you also feel for their BS.

Shit. I paid extra for express shipping and currently AusPost reports that the parcel hasn't even entered their system since it was supposedly posted on Monday.

They also didn't request signature on delivery for a $900 graphics card.

    • +9

      That's (profanity).

    • +1

They also didn't request signature on delivery for a $900 graphics card

That's when you say you didn't receive it. (profanity) businesses who do this.

      • +10

As much as you think that's sticking it to them, that's fraud.

        • Why not both?

        • +1

Sometimes you need to teach a lesson.

        • -2

It's only fraud if you get caught, so odds are it's sticking it to them.

    • You know what dude? They don't even have it in stock but still list it. This practice is similar with Wireless 1, which leads to much longer waiting time. I feel so sorry about their poor arrangement and dishonesty.

  • +1

They won't pick up their phone when you call them either

    • +4

They got retail shopfront in Brisbane, Sunnybank Plaza

ask your friend to pay them a visit if all fails.

      • If it's anything, this is a very small, hole in the wall shop. Not that it's an excuse. But they may be slow to process orders.

        • There's an aust post office literally opposite their shop (okay maybe 20m away) so there's little excuse for not being able to get to the post office in time.

          • +1

@philmccracken: They clearly use sendle as ebay's internal system doesn't see the tracking

    • I called today, 3 rings and they pick up - maybe just busy when you talked.

  • +2

Thanks OP for the alert tho.

They do accept Paypal. This is one of the reasons why I always use Paypal when buying online.
When you have problems like this one, contact Paypal opening a complain against the company.
Paypal will them contact them to find out whatheheck is happening. You should be able to request refund at some point.

Also, for security reasons when using Paypal, you log in on their website and the cookie does the job, the store itself will never know your credit card details.

I hope everyone having problems things get better asap.

    • If I could I would just cancel the order. But cyber mon/black fri is now past and no one is doing deals on 2080tis. So I would be spending a few hundred more if I canceled. And I already went a few hundred above my budget to go the ti over the super.

      • -1

        That scks :/
On your shows I would just "fuc
it", ask for refund. Waiting for it is gonna give you more headache than pleasure.
Even if you receive it, you might end with a bad product meaning your money is gone.
Take the advantage you haven't received it yet to cancel the purchase and wait for Boxing Day.

        • I am stuck between a rock and hard place. I am upgrading because my old pc's graphics card died and rather than buying a 1669ti I thought I would over shoot my $500 budget and build a $3.5k desktop. lol. But this means I can't wait for boxing day for a graphics card as the ryzen 9 has no on board gfx and I can't go without a computer.

          • +1

@curtturtle: Easy, buy a cheap one so you can wait while using your computer without problems.
            I would do that.

            • @ratoloko: Not a bad idea. Can 1050s be put in sli. The mrs is running a 1050. Maybe I can buy one. Use it for a the month and give it to her to use in sli.

They previously sold used mining card as new

    • +1

thank this post now I can blacklist these dodgy sellers

  • +3

If it doesn't come, you have a few avenues if you paid via PayPal or credit card to get your money back at least.

That being said, I've learnt to stick to the more reputable/well known sellers on eBay when buying computer parts - eg Computer Alliance, Futu, Shallothead, etc. Or failing that, just buy from UMart.

    • I thought they were a trusted seller due to how often they get posted here. That's why I posted this post.

      • +6

Unfortunately the nature of OzBargain is anyone can post up a "deal" or a "bargain" where it's typically based on price. Whilst usually if there are frequent issues you'll see negs or comments indicating concerns, there is no endorsement here on OzBargain.

In the case of FTC, there isn't even an active rep on here and their store was previously banned for sockpuppeting. Not a great sign (but by no means a determining factor). I've found the stores which have an active presence on OzBargain with their reps (eg Luke from Techfast) are the ones who usually win over the support from the community just because they're responsive when things don't go to plan, and can even be proactive in keeping the community informed.

        • +2

Of course. And I in no way hold any ill will to OzBargain or the bargainers. Certainly no blame their way.

    • have u bought from computer alliance and wireless 1? my stuff still havent even been shipped. i bought from futu twice and one arrived the next day, the other took 1 more day.

      • +2

Yes to both. Computer alliance has been exceptional in my experience hence why I am happy to post their deals on here (within 1-2 days I actually get the item in Sydney!) but YMMV. I believe they had a huge backlog after their recent sales and their rep posted on here about it.

Wireless 1 was a few days for a cheap item but nothing unreasonable.

I bought my 1080Ti from Futu and came in a few days as well- not exceptional but within expectations.

      • +1

CA Shipped my order before i could add to it. Got it next day. This time of year its busy, understaffed, stock problems etc

        • +1

I have bought from CA once before but through their online store not ebay. They were really good and fast.

          • @curtturtle: CA just posted, but wireless 1 has expected monday 16th to 18th and i ordered friday last week. oh well not in a hurry for that macbook pro, but need that pc build fast so good thing CA did it now.

      • Futu has been excellent for me. CA took a while longer to get to AusPost though (mind, I was buying a whole PCs worth of parts compared to individual parts now and then with futu).

But they kept pretty well updated. Was here by when they said it would be.

      • Yeah Futu is popular on Ebay AU for a reason.

  • +1

    Looks like it's not uncommon.

  • yeah same, brought a CPU on Monday, tracking says the courier won't pick it til Friday, like, WTF?

let's see how it plays out tomorrow, but I am holding off the purchase of the rest of the system until I have shipping confirmation.

    • update: got notification that the courier has picked up the parcel last night

      • Nothing for me yet

        • update 2: received my CPU today.

I hope you will get yours soon.

  • +1

They just emailed me with some BS excuse that they are busy with black friday and couriers are too.
Not posting the item for a week is not acceptable.
And the amount of people here that have had problems says it has nothing to do with black friday.
My guess is they don't hold stock and order it once it has been bought. Which is illegal.

Well they'll be getting negative feedback for this.

    • Yeah absolute BS. Everything else I ordered over the weekend arrived today. But this CPU not even sent.

    • +2

My guess is they don't hold stock and order it once it has been bought. Which is illegal.

If that's the case, then let's see how much longer they last. That's what the baby store I bought stuff from recently did and well… they went into liquidation last weekend.

    • +1

      Shipping takes time.

Opening a customer order take about 30 seconds.

Picking the part from the shelf should take about 2 minutes in a store that size.

Packing 1 item takes around a minute.

Printing and fixing a label can take another minute.

Moving the item to their pick up location could be 30 seconds.

That about five minutes per item for a non optimised store (which this seems to be).

I would assume a retail sales person is doing this while serving walk in customers.

A store like this should be doing up to five internet orders on a normal day (it's a small shop with low brand awareness). So half an hour should be allocated for online orders (because people slack off).

A good online sale should see them doing at least 10x their online business. They should also have at least 2x increase in in-store sales.

The courier line is complete bull, and how they communicated the delay is complete rubbish, but if they were doing $300 off GPU's I can easily see them being completely snowed under.

    • -3

I believe that they don't hold much stock, order were send direct from their supplier to the customer, not much they can do TBH.

      • +1

        Found a staff member

    • Incorrect there is nothing illegal about not having stock and taking an order.

      • It is when you do not disclose that fact to the customer

        • +1

          ..which law is that?

  • +3

I'm really disappointed with this lot. Their support is non-existent, no one replies/answers.

If they got the item in stock, it should be posted within 1-2 days.

Ebay says posted, tracking says pick up in 5 days…

  • +9

    admin should ban this store

    • Given their appalling track record and history, I can't believe they aren't.

  • +1

I finally got through via phone.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens. It might be a legit mass of orders for Black Friday sales.

For the GPU I ordered, they said they are now clearing out orders made on Sunday and ran out of stock.
More stock will come in soon for the orders made on Monday and will be picked up by the courier hopefully on Friday.

    • What GPU was it?

      • 2070 super gaming oc.

  • +1

well I almost pulled the trigger on 2070 Super from them as it was 20% off on ebay, but deep down I still prefer a local shop (live in Sydney)

    • So do I. I am pissed CPL that is 2 doors down from work didn't do black friday. If they had and even weren't the cheapest I would have bought from them. Easy $3.5k sale for them.

      • +1

In the end MWave got the bulk of the order. And they were great and super fast to deliver.

  • +2

I have filed a complaint with eBay and they are putting a strike on FTC Computers account. They are aware of this sellers actions and is against ebay's ToS. So if you have the same problem. Please make sure to report it.

    • Same issues here - Ordered on the 27/11, still not sent as of 5/12. Did you just contact ebay via the chat?

edit: According to the tracking, it's due for pickup by the courier today…

      • +1

Yes I just contacted eBay via the chat. I said that their listing said it would be sent in 1 day. They ticked the item as sent days ago but through the tracking I can see it was booked by them to be picked up today. Which means that they lied to cheat the ebay system into not recognising this. I also mentioned that there were a lot of people on forums talking about this seller and that this is not uncommon.

They asked me if I wanted to cancel the order or wait for it and give them a strike for violating eBay ToS. I chose to wait and give them a strike as I can't find another one for that price now that the black Friday sales are over.

They also informed me to leave negative feedback for the seller and to get back in touch if it is not sent.

        • Thanks. The tracking info says they are picking up today. I'll wait to see what happens and then report after today.

Still want my damn card. Same boat. Price has gone up since Black Friday sales.

          • +1

@namsdrawkcab: It's past 3 now. Starting to get concerned that it won't be picked up today.

            • @curtturtle: Yep, no pickup today. Lodged a complaint with ebay.

              • +1

@namsdrawkcab: Mine was picked up and it says in transit now. For delivery some time next week. If I ordered from USA I would have got it faster.

                • @jiberz: When did you order?

                  • @lolcoaster: Early on 29th.

                    • +1

@jiberz: Hmm, gives me slight hope that the lack of tracking on my order is more due to technical reasons and it actually has been sent.

                      • @lolcoaster: I got a sendle email saying it was picked up. Nothing since. Ebays tracking hasn't updated.

                        • @jiberz: Yesterday though? Probably just Sendle being crap itself.

                        • @jiberz: They keep telling me its been shipped but its been 3 full business days now and no sign of my order.

                          • @lolcoaster: Who says it shipped sendle or ebay? I got sent on ebay on the 29th but not picked up on sendle until yesterday.

  • +4

hmm just looked at their store, 98.1% feedback and only 3539. my standards are 99%+ and 10k+ unless its cheap sub $10 items.

    • My standards are usually the same. What was I thinking?

    • +1

I thought 97+% was okay. Is 99% really that much better?

      • well, for 10k sales , 300 of them had bad experience VS 100 at 99%

        • +1

Remember negs only count against feedback for 12 months, so 300 negs 13 months ago = 100% feedback today, if they’ve received 1 positive in the last 12 months.

    • +1

      High standards!

Personally, sellers just have to have good feedback (negative reviews not showing anything that would make me shop elsewhere, generally 97%+) with a few thousand reviews (productreview, ebay, or general goodwill here). I'd have bought my GPU from them actually seeing as I ordered last week… If they shipped to PO boxes… Kinda need that, and really wouldn't trust a store that doesn't ship to them at this point.

  • For those that ordered a Gigabyte GPU, did you also get a tax invoice?

    • +1

Received one but had to email them twice about it

  • +2

Thanks for the alert OP, i almost pull the trigger last week or the week before i guess now i'm gonna stay away from this seller

    • +3

Not a problem. If my stress saves someone else from suffering the same, I am happy that it helps. Also if they lose a few sales it would have been worth them posting things faster.

  • +1

Ordered before Black Friday sales. Still waiting for mine and the tracker shows pickup was missed however in the conversation I've had with them, they've said that it's been shipped…

    • That sounds like the sold you stock they didn't have and their delivery ran late so they bought themselves some time.

      • Oh they definitely admitted as much to me. Said that their courier was having troubles with getting stock to them to meet the deadlines.

  • +2

One of their problems is that they use Sendle, Sendle partners with some of the worst couriers in the country like Couriersplease.

    • +5

The real problem is, they don't have enough stock for fulfill the orders.

      • +2

That is what I am starting to think is going on here. They don't hold stock, they just order it as orders come in. Illegal to do here.

      • +3

Correct Ctn. Your orders give them the cashflow they need. When they get enough orders they go to the disties to see who will give them the best deal if they wave a bunch of orders at them. If they cant get a good deal or the disties don't have stock, well you're seeing the result of that now.

        • +1

They said it will be posted 2 days ago, then yesterday then today.

Looks like I'll be leaving negative feedback.

          • +1

@Ctn: This is the old android enjoyed model. At some point the shit hits the fan and the price of something goes up and the store can't cover the price and just closes.

  • +5

This thread now shows up 6th on Google for the query 'FTC Computers'.
