Thanks OP, my woolies has the capsules for $7 so i got 6x for $42 with bonus coffee machine, picking up tonight thanks :)

FYI, you are paying over $100/kg for the coffee, which is regularly on special for $15-20/kg as beans.

I go through about 1 bag per month, so switching to this would cost $1000 per year.
One thousand dollars per year extra for capsules

That is five capsules per day, but they only have 6.5g, so you'll need two per person for a decent morning coffee.

Does that "free" machine still sound like a good deal?
Depends - these are great for non-coffee drinkers, so their guests do not get served stale Nescafe :-)
Or the holiday shack / boat / caravan.

    • +3

People aren't buying this because its the cheapest overall coffee option…

Its a good option for those who have hectic lives or don't want to go through the process of grinding beans and the rest of the process just to make a coffee.

      • Lame excuses. Truly lazy people get drive-through.

It takes literally 10 seconds with a modern grinder, including tamping.
Or less than $1000 will buy you a fully automatic machine.

        • +9

Seems like you're being quite selective with the costs that you have chosen to include/exclude…. And the time spent, too…

          lol

          • -1

@clandestino: The numbers depend on how much coffee you drink.

If you are using more than a couple of capsules per day, you should consider investing in a "proper" machine, manual or automatic.

OTOH, it may make for a cheap hot-water dispenser for your herbal tea or noodles?

These machines work on the same model as inkjets and razor blades.

@bargaino: Maybe you should realize there is place for both. I put it to the boss at work for the amount of money that we spend on pods at work we could easily justify a proper espresso machine. By proper I'm talking 2-3K commercial jobbie (yep we spend that much). But then I got the reply, who will pay ti install it (additional power req), maintain it, clean it etc etc. The pod is simple, insert pod press button, you get coffee that's way better than instant.

At home I have a Sunbeam Cafe series that I've been using for over 6 years. There is no way it's faster to make a cup of coffee with that than a pod.

              • -5

                @BlinkyBill:

Maybe you should realize there is place for both.

"realise"!? I clearly said that. More than once and gave examples!!
But a lot of people do not realise how expensive these pods are, so buy them and quit using after seeing the checkout bills.

              • +1

@BlinkyBill: Eh, he made a ranty comment at OP before.
I don't think it's worth arguing with him.

          • @clandestino: He is being really conservative judging by the frequency, shots, and branding.

Arguably, he could've used more expensive beans like St. Ali, Seven Seeds, Dukes, etc. But there could be higher drinking frequency such as 4 cups vs 2 cups/day; triple shots vs double shots (which is normal for Aussie style coffee in general).

        • +5

Truly Truly lazy people skip caffeine and go through the workday like a zombie.

          • @foobat: Why would we need coffee when we don't expend much energy throughout the day :)

            • @NatoTomato: Yeah, it seems to miss the point. Lazy people looking to be faster?!

      • +2

I politely disagree as I would argue a capsule machine is more effort than an automatic coffee machine as I only need to refill coffee beans once a week. The basic operation is the same: turn on, select type of coffee, wait for coffee, turn off. If you like milk then it is simpler.

If we accept the $1000 savings figure then an automatic coffee machine would repay itself within 1-2 years. I purchased a PrimaDonna from the Delonghi Outlet for around $1200 3(?) years ago.

As an added bonus you can use the coffee grounds on the garden as fertiliser.

      • It seems paradoxical but grinding beans and making a shot takes hardly any time. Overall probably same if you take cleaning time into account (more with pod machine).

      • +2

Part of coffee making is the ritual, everytime something comes in to help our "hectic" lives the environment loses.

Also why we don't have as much complaint about working hours and low wage growth.

The more we try and save our free time the more we devalue it.

        • Mate, pretty bloody sure that just because you enjoy the "ritual" of making coffee, doesn't mean everyone else does or has to.

    • -2

Beer cost more, getting rid of a beer belly even more…
      how much is a divorce?

      • +3

Not sure your point. Drink in moderation and get some exercise?

    • +3

That, and the fact those capsules are absolutely bloody horrible as far as environment / pollution are concerned makes this an easy pass for me.

  • +2

    Who is this?
"“I’ve been using the pods for a while and the coffee isn’t too bad. The machine scanned at $99.99 then full price reduction,” a man wrote on OzBargains."

    • -1

      www.ozbargain.com.au/node/502789/amp

It's a bit presumptive of the author to assume it was a "man" writing the ozbargain post just because there was a reference to "my wife".

      • +3

Considering most couples are hetero, I'd say it's a good presumption.

      • +2

One post and 2 comments and they are being quoted in the News.

  • +1

Cheers Op I snagged one.. Already have a pod machine at home. But in Ozbargain style couldn't pass it up, the Mrs needed capsules anyway

    • -7

you just got another "Junk hoarder" award. Relax, you are not alone…

      • +5

        I didn't down vote you.

But this will make a good random Christmas present or I will be able to sell on the market place for profit. You do you mate and I'll do me..

        • Gumtree is full of them as there is the least choice of variety. So I donated mine to a nice lady who went thru a major depression. Just a small gift to cheer her up. I get some hugs now and then in return. Amazing how many "greedies" here show no compassion for the depressed.

          • @payless69: What the hell are you talking about mate? I am a psychologist and that is literally my job. Nice of you to assume though.

  • Been thinking of getting a machine for about a month. Excellent price. I wonder if the aldi pods work in it ;)

    • +2

      No that's the Caffitaly units

  • +6

FYI the Vitoria pods are half price at Coles this week, so only buy the minium 6 packs to get the machine from woolies and buy any extras from Coles.

    • +2

And folks, make sure you get the right ones. Not compatible with Nespresso.

  • +1

Same deal as nearly a year ago.

  • +7

Just FYI, this pod machine is really cheap and makes bad coffee out of bad capsules that are made from stale beans.

    • +2

      This.
I really like their cafe product. And I've owned 6 different pod machines. These were easily the worst.

      • -1

You have owned 6 different pod machines? And still manage to hide from Greta freaks? Tell us how you manage to avoid being hunted down by the greenies.

    • Agree. I bought it for $42 years ago. It sits unused because the coffee is terrible compared to every other pod machine. And worse than freeze-dried instant. Also, grinds often get into your cup. They don't stand behind their product. I would avoid as I consider it a false economy and am trying to move away from this level of unsustainability.

We still use the Aldi machine - much better coffee. But I hate the waste. We are planning to switch to the reusable stainless pods and grind our own coffee once our current supply of pods runs out. Getting the reusable pods also saves throwing away a pod machine for a "proper" machine.

  • Effectively $22-26 given you pass up on the uncommon 50% discount. Still a good price for the machine though, have had one for over 3 years and it works fine.

  • +1

I've had two of these machines picked up on similar deals. On both machines I ended up with coffee grinds nearly everytime.
Coffee was average at best and limited choice of pods.

You can debate pods vs ground for ever but if your in the market for a pod machine nespresso is the way to go. I've had also also and they are not too bad definately better than this machine

  • +3

They had a similar deal a few years ago for the same coffee machine and it just collected dust at my house. Better off buying a better machine.

  • Eh, for $47 why not.

  • +2

Did this deal about 2 years ago with Coles. Average tasting coffee with very limited choice. At the end the machine is worthless as there are way too many systems out there.

Find a dolce gusto on gumtree make sure it has the insert for 2 sizes. Now then you will always fine some capsules on special somewhere. Else Kmart has a fake Nespresso, lotsa capsules out there and superior taste!

    • What insert? I thought the insert it comes with is just for cleaning.

Also I think Dolce Gusto has the most expensive pods and the coffee it produces is just ok

      • Coles has fake large capsules on special, 2 large boxes $10. They say buy the Espressi fro Aldi, it supposed to take Lavazza and Caffitaly as well. Me back on Nespresso, the L'or no 12 are quite plausible currently 40 cents a capsule, with home brands 37.5 . If you have no taste buds, try Pablo!

        • L'or is $0.33 at Costco

The Coles dolce gusto cappuccino implementation isnt good at all

Are you saying you can use nespresso pods in a dolce gusto?

          • +2

@TEER3X: I drank perhaps 1000 nespresso's, both fakes and originals. Then I got an old Caffitaly machine because Coles sold out their decaf's ultra cheap.
Looking at Dolce the white insert looks like caffitaly size but not tested. Woolies still has decaf.

No Costo in the sticks. In Europe Aldi sells the machine for 20 bucks, capsules can be found under 20 c. Any Aldi freaks out here?

  • +2

Alright, who was it? Not seeing any of these comments here…
    https://amp.news.com.au/lifestyle/home/how-to-score-a-free-9…

    • Woolworths is a major advertiser in News Corp publications. Join the dots.

  • +2

I've had this machine for years. Got it on special then too as it's hard to pay full price for this. Terrible selection of pods. Ended up buying a nespresso machine instead.

  • Aw man wish there was a similar for the Lavazza pods - i prefer them, and haven't tried these.

    • I wish you luck, the Lavazza mio modo system in the stronger varieties easily outclasses just about any other pod coffee, imho..and I have tried a few. Only the odd nespresso has come up to par with it.
A few years ago the little "Minu" units were going on clearance at Target for about $17 with a $50 redemption, pod sample pack and a number of free boxes of pods by online redemption offer also. Then there were Simpla and Magia machines clearing through Officeworks, Myer, Kogan and elsewhere at great prices. With capsules often $7/16 it has been fantastic although we could very well go back to manual espresso or plunger down the track. Recommended and hope you find something!

  • does this work online? I added 6 x 12 pack pods and the coffee machine and it does not deduct the coffee machine amount? Or do we place the order for the pods and then collect the machine from where the order is placed?

    • +1

Work even better online, the ran out 1 of the $7 pods in my local store and still endedup getting the coffee machine, works out to be $35 for me. Just add them all in your cart at once and the promo should applied rightaway

      • Thank you. Figured out that I needed to add just the $7 pods!

  • I brought two last time the deal ran, both lasted about a year with everyday use
Needed to use 2 pods though to make a decent coffee, compared to 1 now with my nespresso

    • +2

      Where did you take them?

  • Is there any other pod brands that are compatible with this machine? I don't like Vittoria too much.

  • +3

"Excited shoppers took to the OzBargain forum to let fellow customers know about the deal, which runs until January 1, 2020."

    More like a lukewarm reaction

  • I might pull the trigger if the Macchiatorinorio or the Affogatiniali machines go on sale.

  • I despise the gratuitous plastic packaging of these pods… Have boycotted them.

    • +2

      Phew, glad you told me!

  • You can buy the chicco doro for 4.5 each
Edit: ops nope. Italian blend @$7 each

  • +1

Nespresso machine + frother + Nespresso pods = devine coffee experience
Other pods and machines are cheap in price but cheap in quality as well

  • +2

So we but a box full of non recyclable plastic cr*p and they give us a coffee machine to help fill up the landfill…. Nice !!

  • Thanks Op! Managed to grab one - had to buy the $8.40 capsules no $7.00 ones at my woolies - hope they are decent.
I got the delonghi dedica from an amazon deal last year. I like it but it’s too much work and only use it occasionally. Looking forward to use this one more regularly.

    • I don't think you can adequately compare a capsule machine with the dedica.
Up to you if the less work still gives you a coffee that is acceptable to your taste though.

And don't forget the disposal of all those capsules.

      • Had my first coffee from the new machine and it’s not bad at all. The machine was also very easy to set up and get started.
Regarding disposal of the pods, I usually tip over the left over
Coffee debris into my planter box - can I do the same with these? I.e take out whatever’s left in the pod and put it in the plants?

        • The first cut is the deepest, well compared to instant Pablo it is heaven. Out council has got a few new greenies. They now have place a pod recycle facility into their huge poshey foyer. Free curb parking for Greta freaks just to pamper pod addicts. Of course the multi doctorate greenie laureates have yet to study the fact that there are more than one type of pods and building material. Buy some green shirts for the kids to get them ahead in education, doubles up for next years Paddy day…

Brilliant deal!! Bought this offer this morning. My Kris Kringle is going to be one happy person! our limit is $50. Spent $42 on the 12pk Italian Coffee Capsules + free coffee machine. EPIC! am sure the remaining $8 should suffice :)

  • Chill out. These pods are perfectly fine. My neighbour has this system.

Coles are selling the pods $4- $4.20 for 12 pks
    https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/everything/search/esp…

    compared to $7-$8.40 at Woolies.

worst case scenario you are paying $18 for the machine if you buy 6 $7 pods at Woolies.

The $4.50 Chicco D'oro or $5.60 Aurora compatible pods don't trigger free machine deal.

I bought 6 pods $7 I'll the machine with a box of pods to my dad for Xmas then give him the 5 packs for his birthday.

My local IGA has these pods $2-$3 from time to time.

  • unable to find product, do you guys have any luck?

    • They seem to have taken the coffee machine off their online store.

  • Coles not only played copycat doing same deal they are now throwing another of them virtually un-sellable machine after you! Buy one get another one Gratis yep free just more printer like landfill…

  • good deal snapped it up thanks guys

  • Ring around to the stores if you're still looking for this deal as more stock was delivered a few days ago. We got our coffee machine put behind the smokes counter with a milk frother and 6 packs of the pods. They were so helpful. Collected yesterday.

    • Did you see it advertised in the store? I found a store that has stock but the lady on the phone said she can’t see anything advertised on the shelf itself and told me the only way to see if it works would be by coming and scanning everything and see what happens… lol

  • Tried calling 7 different stores around my area with no luck at all, no stock whatsoever, bummer
