Nothing special. You can get a 14 day pass here:
    http://www.fitnessfirst.com.au/pass?offer=ebirthday

(Yes its a bday offer, but its the same thing - sign up, download the pass with barcode, take it to your local FF)

    • yes, have used the 14days one before, no questions asked.

  • Nice deal Melody. I think I'll use it in conjunction with the 14 day pass =]

And after your finished with the pass and find that FF is not for you… their staff will keeping call you to get you to sign up… =.='

Good point, once i merely INQUIRED about membership fees and prices and they refused to give me this info without filling out all the forms in advance. The staff were like sales people and very pushy so I ended up walking out but made the mistake of giving them my bona fide contact details. Then I few months later I started getting 'follow-up calls' from them until I told them to cease their behavior and asserted how negative I felt about their company.

im waiting for the negging and FF bashing to begin..

  • Available at lots of gyms, most of the time.

High pressure/high guilt sales people who use these offers to lure you in.

If there is a chance of you being influenced into signing up, and then changing your mind (even when its a no fixed term agreement), then this isnt the gym you want to sign up to.

its really sad when you have to threaten legal action against the gym for them to actually get you someone who is 'qualified' to cancel your membership.

There is no company more deserving of a neg than FF going off previous experience.

    • Their staff are actually highly skilled sales people but they also happen to use alot of 'dark' tactics to lure you in. This company is unethical.
Nothing turns me off more than an overzealous salesperson that attempts to rush or expedite my purchasing decision. I always need time to go away and think about it before I commit to some dubious fixed term contract or get suckered into a financial hell.

These guys make Microsoft's business dealings look saint-like.

  • Crunch gym chatswood FTW! $6 a week no contract!

  • You know what, take what you are being offered and use it. Just give them dummy details and act like a prick if they question you or find out.

ozbargainer conflict —— free but gym. gym = physical work.

    conundrum

    • I know, I really dislike expending calories unless I gain monetary compensation.

  • I go to the local YMCA community gym and it has all I can ask for $12 a week.

I hate private gyms with a passion after being ripped off at a Perth CBD gym. When I was 18, I signed up for a 'trial' and found that I was locked into a contract. I would've sued had I known what I do now. But anyways, I'd avoid this.

    • I'd be wary with any of them and make sure you get to do a proper trial before getting involved in it.

Eg At one council gym I noticed:
      - must pick up tickets for class + slow handling of people in the queue + stop issuing tickets 15 minutes before hand = people in queue 20-25 minutes before a class being turned away as they were stuck in the queue for more than 10 minutes
      - gym equipment for multiple classes put in a storage room inside a different class room, so people have to keep interrupting that fitness class to get equipment

I forget the other problems I saw with some council gyms.

  • Worst gym ever - no deal

  • used one of these at hornsby FF they wern't actually very pushy at all, though one receptionist did try and get me on the way in with talk about their current specials.. Just told her i was in a hurry and off i went.

Im actually a member at millenium. far far better gym

  • Is it just me, or has the girl in the top left of the FF page been photoshopped? Those are some skinny thighs…

    • chopped or freakishly skinny…. certainly not a healthy image and either way not a great photo to be posting. unless of course you are trying to make females even more self critical of their bodies, and in doing so encouraging them to sign up to your gym. in which case FF can FOFF :(.

  • Think it's stretched on a skinny girl. Hard to find deals where negs are more than pos

  • They had something like this a year ago on their website and I gave them my number.
When went for my 'appointment' after a few weeks of me filling the form, they didnt say anything or remind me about the free 5-day pass, so I completely forgot. So dont expect these guys to remind you about the free pass.
Its definitely one of their tacky ways of luring you into the building.

  • Agree this isn't really a deal as they offer this stuff all the time.

That said I don't see a problem with fitness first. I have been a member for over four years now and have never seen an increase in cost. The ability to use other fitness first gyms at no extra charge while travelling is a huge plus. Also the rate I got is very competitive (I pay $9 per week and this includes all classes unlike crunch..please correct me if I am wrong Michaelz101)

Again I am only speaking from my experience and have not delt with the sales guys and choose to avoid the mirror hogging douchebags (although I think these come standard with every gym).

What would make a good deal would be the federal government to subsidise gym memberships as part of its program to battle the nation wide obesity crisis…now that would be a bargain!

    • wow you got a good rate

    • That is an amazing rate given that I was a founder member and was paying more than that!

FF have got to be the dodgiest gym ever. After cancelling my membership (wasn't on a contract as I had been a member for a few years) they continued to take money from my account after contacting them on many occassions to tell them to stop. It continued until I reported them to fair trading and they were forced to pay all of the money back to me. CRIMINALS!!

      • Ouch, that is low.

      • Shockingly atrocious behaviour. I can't believe you had to take it all the way to the ACCC! The managers of the gym would have been held accountable, surely?

    • fudge, I pay double and I'm on a student, off peak home only plan.

  • I signed up to FF with the condition that I could cancel the membership whenever I chose to.
The sales person agreed and wrote a note in the contract.

a few months into the contract, I decided to leave, and they refused to cancel my membership and kept taking money from my credit card.

I reported the card as stolen, and they could not charge anymore.

went to the gym, and told them to P.OFF.
scumbags, I will never go to one of their gyms ever again, not even if it's free!

I think the majority of comments on here speak for themselves about the negative rep of FF.
