I like Sony's motion processing and upscaling far better than LGs implementations but I don't think I'd take this over the C9 personally. Maybe if the A8G was not so heavy handed with ABL… If you game you'd wait for a C9 deal. I think the MediaTek SoC is the old version on this model so Android TV would be laggy. Also older chipset, X1 Extreme.

    • True. Personally, I got this for my parents who mostly watch Netflix and Stan.

I'm sure your olds will be happy with it. If the Smart TV stuff annoys them maybe get an nVidia Shield or AppleTV for a better experience. They won't notice the technical differences between models, they will just enjoy it.

Unless money is an issue then return it and go with the B9 when next on sale.

    • The B9 is cheaper than this, and it's significantly better, especially if someone only watched netflix and stan. Otherwise just throwing away money.

      • "Significantly better" how exactly?

HDMI2.1, brighter, faster CPU, Lower latency if you plan on gaming, better HDR processing, Android TV which is slow and a pain to use. Being picky, but to save $700 and get a better TV which is more future proof also…..

I was going to buy, but no hdmi 2.1, and double the input latency of B9. B9 seems to beat this and is cheaper right?

B9 has near black posterization issues (compared to C9) and slight crushing of near black (by LG to combat the posterization) effecting shadow detail. If you aren't picky you probably won't notice it. Uses older Alpha 7 Gen 2 chipset from 2016 and 2017 models. Similar brightness to the A8G and has HDMI 2.1. A8G has issues with near black posterisation in HDR (only on YouTube HDR I think), laggy Android TV due to old SoC and HDMI 2.0 only and more input lag. ABL can also be overly agressive. Upscaling and motion better on the Sony but I'd probably take the B9 and the $650 saving.

      • Yea brand wise I would prefer a sony, but can't deny the value of the B9 on sale.

        • I really can't understand how a Sony 8 series OLED is still this expensive considering its their step down model.
