      Plex organises your media into a nice UI that tracks what you've watched, what you've recently added, etc, and is available on every device under the sun. It's much better than just watching stuff on a PC. Streaming to other devices outside your house is a nice bonus.

        Some pretty nice features, do you know if there is a way you can use the Plex interface on the local machine your hosting from, to view your files neatly with tracking and still play directly to your chosen media player? I use media player classic and the video and subtitle control hotkeys are really hard for me to give up at the moment. Thx for replying

          I use the Plex Windows client on the same PC running the Plex server with my TV plugged in as another monitor through HDMI. You can set a specific monitor and sound device so it always plays to your TV without stuffing around with Windows' sound devices and so on. I have an LG smart TV with the Plex app installed but I always use the Windows app instead (with a USB air mouse/keyboard combo) because it's a nicer app.

          You're probably better off using Kodi for your example. There's also a very good Plex addon for Kodi that gives a similar "Plex" look for navigating your media.

          I think that would give you the best of both worlds and still give you the features you want.

          Plex is amazing! Been using it for years now and have been paying the $5 a month. Should of got it a year or so ago when they had the lifetime for $79. This is just as good IMO, support programs you use and they'll just keep getting better 👍

    Everyone should try the free version before jumping head first into the Plex Pass.

    I've been using Plex for 5+ years nearly daily (home and remote use, multiple users) and still have no reason to get the Plex Pass (other than support devs), I'd assume most people would be in the same situation.

        I can just copy whatever movies/TV off my server to my phones SD card using Solid Explore app though, so that's not a huge deal.

        That is the best feature of the Plex Pass though.
