Why do you hide the name of the cruise line and ship?

      better voteoften?

    • It's the Norwegian Jewel.

Are you quoting prices without the expected gratuities?

    • +5

I think this company charge about $25 per day for gratuities… so add another $500+ to the cost..

      Edit:
      Norwegian Cruise Line
      Daily gratuity charge: US$14.99
Note: Passengers in suites pay US$17.99.
Additional charges: A 20 percent gratuity is added to bar bills, the bills at extra-charge specialty restaurants and for services at ship spas.

      • Can you remove gratuities at the service desk?

      • +2

According to their T's & C's even a 3 year old is charged the gratuities! At the current exchange rate it works out at A$457 per person for the 21 nights, so if you're a couple with 2 young kids you better budget another $1828 on top of the fares.

  • Price quoted is for 1X category, which does not have any ‘perks’.

Yup so why is it mentioned in the description OP??

    $50 shore tour credit?

That's probably just enough to get you a bus into town from the port.

Some cruise lines limit the number of children allowed due to staffing requirements. Before buying airfare ensure they have actually accepted your booking.

The gratuities really should be included. If not at least tell people in the description. This isn't the wild West. If you want people to trust you, you should be open about all costs.

  • Starts off $6636 for 4 people ($1659pp)

    Ends up ~$9500 for 4 people ($2375pp).

    $716 extra per person

Make sure you pay by bank deposit or BPAY or you'll get stung with a CC surcharge also, 1.5% for Visa & MC, 2.8% Amex…

hidden gratuities? Makes me wonder what other expenses are hidden.

Been on two cruises in the last 2 years and none of them had 'hidden' anything, chose another cruise liner and get better value for money.

    • For some clarity for those who aren't sure, all these cruise liners are run out of the US so as much as I hate the idea of the gratuity system, it's not so much hidden as every single cruise liner from America has them, it's just a matter of who advertises the ticket as to whether it's advertised with or without the extra cost. If you were to live in the US, it would be a given that it's an extra cost which is where these companies operate from. So… it just so happens that because we live in OZ, the extra 'hidden' cost is a surprise. When sold out of Australia, the price usually includes the gratuity, but as mentioned, depending on who advertises the ticket, it may, or may not.

I've been with several cruise lines including Norweigen and have had some excellent 'value for money' in comparison to some others, so that particular comment of yours is not necessarily correct.

  • Good price for a 21 night cruise & Norwegian is a step up from Carnival / P&O.

  • Hey folks, if you are looking at this be aware that you might have to pay additional mandatory gratuities if you select the beverage package. It is still probably the best value, but make sure before you commit. It could be hundreds of dollars per person and could also be levied on children.
