  • Any idea how much a electrocution would want to install these?

    • -4

Its literally 3 wires, less than a couple minutes of work to do. I would hope no more than $50

you don't deal with electricians very often do you?

    • +22

      electrocution

      FREE if you DIY

    • best to get a few jobs together to make it worth it

These plates don't fit the standard c-plate, requires a bit of modification

    2 x Switched Power Outlets, 2 x USB Ports (Total 2.1A)

These are so easy to install but at same time it voids your home insurance… I wish there was some seperate cert or something that allowed you to work on your own house for stuff like replacing outlets, tap washers, etc. None of the major stuff like pipe welding but just the super simple stuff.

    • Electrical Engineering degree?

      • +1

I've got one actually… You'd think it be like that but it don't be.

    • +4

how would they know if you DIY, burns down, no evidence anyway haha

10.5w split between two usb ports is just terrible. If it at least did 2.4a, it could keep an ipad pro 12.9" charging with light web use at 100% brightness, but at 2.1A you'd have to have the brightness at 40% and the battery would BARELY rise.

imho, for something being built into the home, it's just not suitable to only be able to do 5w out of each port simultaneously. I don't know how much 4 socket outlets cost, but, if you would think you even need a use for this, then those would be much neater and handier.

edit: also the writing is ugly.

  • These were yesterday’s Amazon lightning deals, waited for them only to realise they just dropped from $19.99 to $14.99.

    Pointless unless its QC3.0

    • +1

Are there any outlets like this with any sort of fast charging capabilities?

    • +1

Powerpoints are not the sort of device you want to change every couple of years to keep up with technology. 2 years ago your comment would have been 'Pointless unless its QC2.0' and next year it will be 'Pointless unless its USB C with PD'.

These might have some merit as a power source for USB lighting strips or other devices that have low power demands.

      • +2

No reason you couldn't have the outlet upgraded every few years if new standards came out. The power cabling has already been done so it's a cheap and simple job of just changing over the wall plate.

        • Except you're supposed to use an electrician if you choose to do it legally.

  • The expiry date of 26th December, 2019 is now incorrect. Amazon price has reverted to A$19.99

I just tried with code. It works. Please try again.

  • I've just had every wall power outlet in the house replaced by a qualified Electrician….about 25 I think, and all the singles replaced with doubles. The house is 38 years old and only two blocks from the ocean. If any of your switches are soft or rock a bit when you turn them on get them replaced….of course ensure the Mains are wired with an RCD safety switch (instant cutout) and use a GFCI extension cord for any work with power tools etc.

  • For plugging in a phone or ipad for overnight charging, these work fine. I have them.
