SAMSUNG - SERIES 7 65" RU7100 4K UHD TV - UA65RU7100WXXY $995 (Expired)

Popped into Bing Lee to purchase this TV today. Advertised price is $1495. However, they told me it'd be on sale for $995 on Boxing Day. So they actually let me buy one today at that price.

Decent deal for the 65 inch Samsung 65RU7100 TV.

EDIT

  • David Jones have this same TV on sale for $949! This price will be available online from 24th Dec and in-store from 26th Dec.

Don't forget the 4% ShopBack cashback.

    no delivery wa

    • Offers delivery to my post code in WA. but extra $143.22

      • WA misses out again, sucks

        • Hopefully other retailers will offer similar deals on Boxing day

  • been that price few times in the past, probably should have waited to see if any 20% eBay promo starts Boxing Day to stack with sales prices

    • +1

True.. I guess I won't open the box until after Boxing day to see if the ebay promo happens..lol

      • best to wait & see lol, may even find higher spec models at similar price

    • Sooo…. no 20% ebay promos today??

      • +1

nothing yet, see how the week goes, overall boxing day deals this year seem pretty shit

  • +1

For this with costco membership, there was a pallet of these at Moorabbin for this price and has been for a few weeks.

    • +16

I guess this deal would be good for those without a Costco membership.

    • +3

Am in Costco Docklands and price is 1299.99 after 150$ off.
Might be local to moorabbin store.

    • This might not fit a normal car. I remember my 55 was a close fit. . my Costco wont deliver either.

  • +42

Credit to Bing Lee for not taking your money at $1495

    • +18

      Agreed.
I was in Harvey normans looking at tvs and noticed 1 was "on sale" price jacked from what my research said it should be.
Asked the bloke and he said its their last one so put a higher price on it with a sale sign hoping to make a few $100 more

      • +52

This the most Harvey Norman story I've ever read

      • +8

This is the reason why I avoid Harvey Norman they still think is 1996

  • +6

The fact you were gonna buy it a $1499 suggests you might need to hand in a few OzBargain credits…

Hopefully there will be some good 55" deals on boxing day… Parents have just said they want two new TVs 😬

    • Finder's fee?

    • +7

LOL. I was actually going in to see if they could price match/beat Powerland's $1088. But then they said they will do one better. They'd offer it to me at the Boxing Day Sale price of $995..

  • +1

I had this tv… FTA on non-hd channels looked really bad..

    • +12

      Free to air lol

      • +7

Do you actually pay to watch the TV?

        • +2

Yeah, I don't have solar panels so I do pay (for the electricity) in order to use the TV.

          • -3

@netsurfer: Yeah.. Your in Vic, not much sunshine there. I have solar panels and enjoy free electricity throughout the day with the surplus still exported.

        • nope

        • -7

          yeah, ever heard of Foxtel?

    • +13

I have an LG OLED….and FTA on non-HD channels looks like a cat just vomited. That's just how it is.

    • +3

Like every single 65" tv showing sd content.

      • +3

Sony tvs tend to do a better job upscaling sd content. My 65" x8000g does a pretty good job with my local sd channels. Obviously HD and UHD still looks better.

Wouldn't touch samsung products with a 10 ft pole from now on after going through their warranty process. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/507411#comment-8148508

    • +1

      Yikes

    • +2

For me i had a new samsung tv which was defective out of the box. Samsung offered servicing instead of replacing the tv.

    • +9

This is unlucky.. I've had to go through a few Samsung warranty processes over the years including on my Samsung Note 8 which had just fell out of warranty by 3 months. I personally found the process quick and efficient and my issue was resolved without any headaches. I'm sorry you can't say the same for yourself.. Good luck!

      • Nah not unlucky its normal…see their customer service review. 1.6 stars out of 5.

        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung

        • +5

Then I guess I'm lucky.. haha

        • +2

Eh the site you linked is pretty pointless: LG is 1.2 and Sony is 1.6.

        • Customer service review websites are to be taken with a grain of salt. People only share grievances/complain on those sites, very rarely do people leave feedback when they have good things to say. If you treat them like gospel then you’ll never buy anything from anywhere ever again.

      • +2

Never had any issues with Samsung either. And I've made quite a few warranty claims. I'm happy to continue buying samsung

    • +1

Ive used samsung galaxy s2, s3, s6, s10+ and my whole family uses samsung phones and I help my parents with their phone setup and purchases.

No more samsung for me or my family going forward. Why pay someone to treat you like trash?

      • Oppa get an LG?

      • its just like voting…

      • Yeah I was treated like crap from Samsung last tv died a month out of warranty they told me more expensive to fix than replace with a new one. What are you going to do buy LG? They are even worse.

    • +1

That's one person and an isolated problem mate.

I'd bet my life if it was the same problem and swap the story to IPhone 11, it would read very much the same.

I had a small problem with an old Samsung monitor that was out of warranty (which I would have caused 100%) and they fixed it for free.

Fast forward to last year. I had a 60" SUHD Nano Crystal TV (paid $1990, rrp $3490) that was almost 3 years old and started having some problems with some lamp and they offered me "MY MONEY BACK!!" or someotherlike4liketv.

The TV they offered me was the new 65" QLED which on the Samsung website had a rrp of $5400.

      I took the TV.

I've only ever had great experiences with Samsung warranty and highly recommended them.

Side note Note 8 has been faultless for 2 years.

      • +2

Apple support is superb. Countless stories where they replace a broken screen, I’ve had two of my iPhones replaced on the spot where there’s be a battery issue. If they sold TVs I’d buy one.

        • Those are exceptions to the rule. The rule actually is, that they don't even accept the phone for battery swap even if it's under warranty, as you have a faulty device (screen), so you need to pay to fix the screen in order to get battery fixed for free.

          • @StickMan: Had an iPhone 6 replaced a few years back which was out of warranty. In the meantime bought an iPhone 8 and never even switched on the iPhone 6. Fast forward 14months, Son needed a phone and I thought might as well activate the iPhone 6 - activated it and had an issue - person on the other end can’t hear voice. Apple replaced the phone after a quick diagnostic on the spot. No dramas. I think even their junior most staff has more delegation than any other electronics company and commonsense almost always prevails. Samsung I had an issue with a TV and it took almost an year to resolve, countless emails / phone calls /
            follow up.

    • +1

@minijumbuk are you serious? Comparing a mobile experience with a TV? lol
I had Samsung mobile phones my whole life

Samsung SPN-N345 also Samsung Light - Mp3 didn't existed yet
Samsung SGH-A840 also Samsung Astro Cam - Cameras started to appear on mobiles
Samsung F-250: MP3 finally starts to appear, Radio, internet over GPRS

      From water to wine

      Samsung Galaxy S2
      Samsung Galaxy Note 2
      Sony Xperia Z5: Worst decision
Samsung Galaxy S8+: Released in 2017 its battery still holds above 24h. It is still working like new. Always with case tho.

      Looking for a Samsung Watch deal, and I currently have a 2018 Samsung QLED Q7FN 4K 65"

      • MP3 as we know it today was released in 1995.

        • In a Polyphonic ringtones world, T9 keyboard, MP3 was like we saying today that aliens exist hahahaha

      • None of my Samsung Galaxy mobiles failed or required any repair either; S2 (sold), S3 (gifted but stolen), S4 (gifted), S5 (passed to son then to mother after buying new battery recently), S7 (passed to son), S10e recent acquisition. All kept in cases; S5, S7 also still look and behave like new.

I have Panasonic tvs, bluray, dvd recorders etc. since about 2000. No issues there either, except the "smart" features of the Panasonic tv were under par. We make fairly good use of the Google Chromecast these days though.

        • Same, all my Samsung devices never knew the meaning of assistance.
The latest Galaxy models such the ones you and I have, support Samsung DeX which connected with a monitor/TV with a USB-C to HDMI, you have a computer running. Pretty cool.

          I just wanna see how my 2018 Q7FN QLED 4K 65" goes.

1y and so far the best gift I gave myself, quality, experience. I still get myself like a kid while watching 4K nature documentaries, oooh man <3
The only things you read over the internet is the fight between QLED and OLED, black not being truly black hahahaha

    • +3

I had a 4.5yr old 65" Series 8 Plasma (PS64F8500AMXXY) that had to be repaired twice for a power supply issue (panel wouldn't power up, but had audio). When it happened the third time, Samsung offered me a full refund or a replacement with a Refurb Series 9 LCD (UA65KS9000WXXY). I had extended warranty through JB Hifi, but Samsung said they would honor either option through consumer guarantees.
With regards to TV warranty I found Samsung to go above and beyond.

    • Thats why I prefer to buy electronics from Costco. Never had any warranty issues

    • For what it’s worth, I had an excellent time with Samsung VOC.
I had a 4 year old home theatre system purchased from TGG.
The volume touch controls on the unit started playing up. It was fixed and then the issue happened again after a year or so.

Samsung refunded me the purchase price instead of offering to fix it for the second time.

Also, this is not a valid reason to neg.

      • Here in Australia by law a TV has to work for at least 5y without giving you problems.
No matter it it had 1y or 2y years when first purchased.
There are cases where the owner of a 9y old TV received a refund minus a % per year. Better than "good luck on that"

    • +2

I went through Samsung warranty for a 55” LED TV technically out of warranty, dead line of pixels through the screen.
I spoke to them on web chat, they sent someone to look at it within a week.
Decided they couldn’t return it and so they offered me a full refund. Whole process was less than 10 business days. I was quite impressed, and got an upgraded TV at the end of it all.

    • -2

Sound like this guy just hate Korean brand. Maybe he is from north korea?

    • Absolutely Samsung is just a really atrocious brand. I remember the craze Australians had for Korean products a few years back (Hyundai, Kia, Samsung etc) and everyone was taling about their "quality".

Bought a Samsung top of the line side by side fridge that broke down a month and a half outside 2 year warranty (before ACL) with what I later found out to be a known problem online and Samsung flat out refused to help. Thats the kind of toxic culture you will be dealing with when you buy a Samsung product.

    • +2

Samsung warranty is terrible. I always feel that it's a gamble with Samsung. When the product works it's good but when it doesn't then it's a horrible experience getting anything fixed.

    • +1

Not really relevant to neg this deal. You bought a phone, this is a TV. If anyone has issues with this TV their first option will be to deal with Bing Lee for a warranty claim, the customer wouldn’t have to deal with Samsung.

      • +2

We have a Samsung fridge that failed just outside the 5 year extended warranty. They replaced the compressor, replaced an LCD screen all within 24hr of booking. No Charge! Can’t complain at all…

  • This or the Hisense 65R7?

    • The Hisense is a better TV, better company, better support and arguably has a better OS. But the R7 also usually costs more.

I'm tossing up between LG and Hisense - I'd prefer the Panasonic GX740 but it's basically discontinued, so the stores that still have it are asking an arm and a leg.

      • +4

Why the heck was this totally negged?

    • +1

I would say the 65R7 has better reviews from critics and it has better features, however the Samsung has better average reviews from people who have bought the TV. I have noticed that a lot of the bad reviews about the Hisense are based on faults in the product. In sum the Hisense may be slightly better if you get one with no faults.

      • I've noticed the same. Hisense with random software glitches, bugs etc.

It's almost like they (hisense) have the better hardware, but are unable to get the software quite right.

  • -1

Receipt or proof of some sort would make this a deal

    • +1

Definitely a deal, purchased for the same price yesterday.

  • -2

Unless your streaming 4k tv, gaming or buying 4k movies there is no need for a 4k tv in Australia. Aussie broadcast tv is horrible to watch on anything greater than 1080p

    • +13

there is no need for a 4k tv in Australia

You just listed all of the reasons there IS a need for it. If you're still watching junk like FTA, then you're probably happy with any cheap junk TV.

      • Is 1080p scaled well on a 4K?

        • +3

Yes I think 1080p (HD) is scaled to a satisfactory level on my 4K Sony X80G 65 inch but SD is just crap!

    • unless you don't rely on free to air channels

    • +6

Aussie Broadcast TV is horrible.. At any resolution.

    • Who tf watches Free-to-Air tv these days? lol.

    • +4

Lol Im guessing your highlight of the day is watching an episode of Neighbours followed by Home and Away. Maybe throw in a episode of ACA and the 6:00pm news and your day is all set.

    • Disney.

    • +1

we don’t even have 1080 FTA yet and japan is already trialing 8K lmaooo

    • Its getting harder to buy anything but 4K in this size

    • This is a very relevant comment… If the date was something, something two thousand and ten.

    • 4k is probably cheaper than 1080p these days, given some 4k tvs were <$500 3 years back.

  • You can open it now. In case there is a cheaper price you can ask for refund the difference. At least this is how it works with JB.
3 days is nothing to wait if you are not an anxious person like me lol hahaha

    • But I don't think a 20% off eBay discount code will apply to that rule?

      • -1

Nope, it sounds crazy but eBay, online and store are different things.
When I was looking for Xbox One X, Microsoft eBay had an amazing deal but the store couldn't do anything about it so I would have to buy online and select to pick up.

  • I got the 55inch from jbhi for $831 two days ago after some bargaining. This deal seems more worth it though.

    • Keep your eyes open tho. If you see any bargain during Boxing Day, go to JB with the receipt telling them the price is cheaper than what you paid for a week ago. They will give you a refund.

    • +1

Dont buy things like tvs prior to boxing day sales

      • Not really, buying before there is stock, during Boxing Day the stock might don't last in the stores.

I did and was the best thing I've done.
1y back I bought the 2018 Samsung QLED Q7FN 64" for 2.6k while its normal price was something around 3.2k at JB
If it was cheaper during the boxing day I could request refund.

Boxing Day and same price, nothing happened, and I didn't have to bother getting stressed trying to buy a TV, just lazying at home enjoying it.

  • +10

Cheaper in the current David Jones catalogue - $949. (ends 08/01/2020)

      Still showing as $1699.

Do you have a photo of for $949? Would love to have Bing Lee price match this for me.

      Thanks!
