  • This could be epic. I shall await some comments on the integrity of suncorp because I've never really heard of them before.

Can't comment on integrity but pretty much every time I've ever seen a Suncorp branch it's been shut which is enough reason for me to write them off when I was looking to get away from the incompetence of ANZ.

If you don't want to be able to go to an actual branch (or don't have a normal job and can go on a weekday during the day) they might be OK…

      big in queensland.

    • Remember you still have federal govt guarantee on deposits which ends in October. You can leave your acct opened until then if you're worried :P

  • Great Deal. I used to be a suncorp customer 6 years ago and then closed down my account and moved the NAB. If I open one now will I be considered a new customer and be eligible for the $50? It would be great if I could as a new suncorp opened close to where I live.

    any monthly fee ??

  • Misleading title (not the OP's fault, Suncorp present it that way).

"applicable when you set up and have deposited to that account a successful, regular external combined deposit of $2,000 or more within 4 weeks of account opening. The "

So it's not just when you deposit $2,000, it's when you set up a recurring deposit (eg salary).
They do this so you can't just transfer money in then back out again.

Nothing to stop you from changing your salary arrangements the same way but most people won't bother.

    • The only word there that would suggest recurring deposits is the word "regular". Regular could mean 2 deposits of $1000, could it not? Yet, I would assume one deposit is ok despite this ambiguous wording.

    • split payroll advise would solve that for anyone interested

    • +1

It does not say recurring at all.

    • +1

You do not need to set anything up.
If you did then they would say that you need to set up an Automatic Savings Plan (Which is where they re4move the money from your other account and add it into your suncorp account)
But that only applies to the online savings accounts.
      They said "external combined deposit"

External meaning that the deposit is coming from another source, if suncorp was taking the money from your bank account automatically it would not be an external deposit.

All you need to do is deposit $2,000. You do not need to set up anything.

You could go into your current bank account and manually transfer over $2000 in one go or you could have your current bank automatically transfer over $500 each week.
      It does not matter.
Suncorp has no way of knowing if you manually transferred the money or if you told your bank to automatically transfer the money for you, both ways will show as a deposit into the suncorp account.

They do say "regular" so you might be best off with setting up a $500 weekly transfer with your existing bank.
But i think what they mean by this is the "regular combined" deposits (ie salary) need to total $2000 or more.

They do this so you can't just transfer money in then back out again.

All they have said is that $2000 must be deposited, they do not say that your balance must be $2000 to get the $50.

If your balance had to be $2000 then you could not transfer money in and out.

  • A couple of pertinent questions:
    - Can you stop the "recurring deposit" (effectively making it one-off) and still get the $50?
    - Can you take all the money out of the account immediately after the deposit, and still get the $50?

If someone calls to find the answers, please share.

Usual situation… The conditions are not clear so steer clear.
""regular"" ?? what is meant by this? We can assume all we like on here but it is Suncorps opinion that counts.
It is not difficult to write conditions clearly to avoid confusion. I don't bother too much with businesses that are incapable of that simple task for a good reason.

it's a good account, you can direct debit from it's high interest saving account like the everyday options subaccount, whereas other high interest saving accounts you can't direct debit from them (i.e. you need to transfer the money to the transaction account first for direct debit from the transaction account)

too bad i already have one :*(

    • You should get a little threat from them too if you already have an account.

They sent me a message saying if I make 15 debit transactions (exceeding $20) in September they would give me $50.

so they have not forgot us.

      • +2

you mean treat, or did they actually threaten you that if you go over 15 debit transactions they'll force $50 onto you?

        • typo or was it :3

  • +1

    It looks good:
nowhere does it say you cant withdraw the regular deposit, or have to keep any minimum amount in the account.

<The $50 offer is available to new Suncorp Bank Everyday Basics, Everyday Options and 55 Plus accounts opened between 1 August 2011 and 31 October 2011>
<The payment of $50 is applicable when you set up and have deposited to that account a successful, regular external combined deposit of $2,000 or more within 4 weeks of account opening>

  • Hmm the only iffy thing is the "regular". I wonder if I could just setup a direct debit into the account of say $700 weekly and then cancel the DD after 3 weeks (payments) to make it $2100.

  • Thanks just signed up. I like the flexiRate feature on the savings account where you lock money away like a term deposit easily.

  • I have been a Suncorp customer with accounts (private and company) and mortgage for more than 15 years. Never had any problems, phone-service is excellent, didn't need to go to a branch for more than 4 years, all done through their website. There are sub-accounts available which pay a high interest but you can use them in the same way as a normal account (direct transfer to other accounts, BPay immediate or in the future etc.). Happy Customer.

    • Happy customer too….. Have used them for a number of years and use interest paying sub accounts for bill money, savings etc.
Rarely need to go to a branch

  • Unfortunately I made a suncorp account a couple of years ago since you can get a visa debit card for free on any of the everyday accounts. Not like bloody ANZ which charges you a monthly fee for a debit card…

    • My ANZ atm card was replaced with a Visa Debit card for free, a few months ago. I guess things have changed.

do i get the $50 straight away? it cost me around $1 per day interest for the 2000, if it takes more than 10 days doesnt seems worth it.

    • It is stated in the terms and conditions for the offer.

    • +1

So you have an interest rate of almost 20% on your saving account?

    • Even with UBank's 6.51%PA interest, it'd take just over 4.5 months to get $50 interest.

      • "Math is hard." - lol..

    • notice how he says "it cost me"-maybe he got confused with a $2000 cash advance from a credit card which is also around the 20% mark!

  • Easy free $50 to be earned.

  • Gonna give this a shot….

  • +1

This deal would be more useful if I didn't spend all my money on OZB deals.

  • How come I cannot find the promotion on the suncorp website other than using the direct link from ozbargain?
    can anyone help?

    • ozbargain special?

  • $50 daily?

    • every minute

  • Oh FRAK! be nice to mention that you have to provide identification after the signup process, more time spent messing around to get the $50. Hell Commbank, ING, Virgin Saver etc were all 100% online and it was no extra messing around. I would complain to them about this if there was another $50 in it for me.

"1. Visit an Australia Post office; 1. Print the Australia Post Identification Form** (for joint account holders each person will need to print the form) and
    2. Visit an Australia Post office with your form and identification documents to be identified; or

    1. Visit your local branch. Simply take your identification with you to your local branch where one of our friendly staff will identify you."
    • Commbank, ING, Virgin Saver etc were all 100% online

That is because they are online only accounts.

If you want a transaction account with a visa debit card they need to verify your identity.

      • I have applied online for Commbank, ING, Virgin Saver and all of them asked for 100 point ID check.

  • Does anybody know if the $2k deposit is just a simple transfer or does it have to be some regular deposits (direct debits, savings plan etc)? BTW this is also being advertised on telly now in QLD.

    • +1

I was told over the counter any transfer will do (even simple manual transfers), as long as it's $2k. But can anyone confirm this? Lots of people taking up this offer but no one is disclosing how they are executing it.

  • Received the $50 bonus a week after depositing $2k. Thanks Suncorp.
