You bought 2000 prawns? Greedy mate

    • They are fresh, so why not? Fill the friggen freezer. If you don't have one, search ozbargain for freezer deals.

Well I didn’t count but the girl who served me hated counting 😂

    • One wonders how fresh these are?

    • Here I was thinking it was 2kg…. Damn that must've cost you a pretty penny.

  • +3

Very fresh actually. Dunno why it’s reduced. Just chuck them in the freezer

cause they are already defrosted! Most prawns are frozen at source.

      • They haven’t been frozen otherwise the sign would say so as required by health regulations

        • Almost all prawns are frozen as they're caught, as the trawlers could be at sea all day before they fill up.

@muncan: Most are, many are not. Farmed prawns for a start. These ones say "fresh" and Woolies is not know for lying about that … oh wait.

But seriously, not for lying about frozen vs fresh.

They probably already "thawed for our convenience". Better ask the staff.

    • I remember one time buying prawns from Cole's and the girl painfully slowly put them in the bag one by one…I wanted 1.5kg but gave up waiting at about 800g and said that's fine

  • U can freeze them but I think they're about to expire

  • -7

Why would you ask for quantity versus just saying you want a certain weight? Poor girl had to count 2000

    Good deal thanks OP

    Joking mate😂😉 I didn’t say 2k. I was typing 2kg but missed the g

  • Can anyone confirm if any other Woolworths have these special?

    • Got some yesterday from Prestons, NSW, but they announced it as a 15 minute special while I was there. She also announced it as half price, but just stuck a random sticker on which didn’t seem to equate to exactly that. Got about 1.15kg for $12.50, so not quite $10/kg, but still decent. The wife and I have already polished them off, they actually tasted quite fresh.

  • Hi OP, have tried Costco prawns? They are really nice

  • I haven’t been to Costco actually. I don’t think we have any around my neighborhood

      That’s actually a really good point 😂

hey you finally figured out to how to reply! 😂

  • Emu Plains had them for the same price today.

They are a little salty and small. But definitely fresh. Not the best prawns I've had, but great for the price.

  • You can tell fresh from frozen and the woolies ones are fresh as their antenna are all in tact, with frozen they break off. I had these for xmas and can vouch for their freshness.

    • They are frozen and defrosted at store.

Most prawns caught a sea are sorted and packed within moments of being caught. Prawns can be cooked at sea and frozen, stored fresh in an ice/brine mix or frozen uncooked or “green” at sea.

Freezing prawns soon after catch immediately preserves the quality, freshness and flavour, enabling them to be transported and stored while keeping quality high.

Correct for ocean caught. These were farmed Black tigers that are supplied fresh, Woolworths also had frozen farmed Black Tigers.

  • Delicious, got 2KG myself just now and had somebody next to me also grab 2KG. There were probably only 4-5KG left when I left about 15 mins ago.

I was there earlier today, was gonna post but forgot about it, bought 1kg.

  • This was also available at Woolies on Parramatta Westfield a few days ago when I was there. Assumed they were leftovers from the festive season, they weren't super fresh but still ok
