[NSW] Google Pixel 3 128GB with Optus 10GB/Month 24-Month Contract $49/Month @ Harvey Norman Castle Hill

90

Finishing my last contract in the next few days ($59/Month for iPhone 8 with $200 Gift Card (24 Month Contract) - Optus @ Harvey Norman), so I've been looking for a new one.

Went to the Castle Hill store. The sales guy checked their internal system and suggested that for under $60/m they have a new plan for the Google Pixel 3 at $49/month. It has 10GB/month of data and is a 24 month contract.

Don't know if it's across all HN stores but if someone is looking for a phone plan under $60/month, this looks good.

PS: P30 went up to $74/month from $59/month.

  • I imagine you are talking about an Optus Plan then yes as that is what HN signs up to?

If a boy had a chance
A chance with someone like you
Are you gonna break his heart?
Let him cry for the moon?
Are you hiding somewhere behind those eyes?
    I just freeze
    Everytime you see through me
    And it's all over you
    Electric blue
    On my knees
    Help me, baby
Tell me, what can I do?
    Electric blue
    Oh, I had a dream
For a moment I believed it was true
    Oh, I'd have given anything
Just to be there with you
    Are you hiding
    Somewhere behind those eyes?
    I just freeze
    Everytime you see through me
    And it's all over you
    Electric blue
    In too deep
    Standing here waiting
    As I'm breaking into
    Electric blue
    I can see
Can see that it may be just a vision for you
    Electric blue
    On my knees
    Help me, baby
Tell me what can I do?
    Electric blue

  • Wasn't there a 12/MTH contract with JB for a Pixel 3 at $100/MTH? But you also get a $500 gift card.

    • Yup, with Telstra though.

    Minimum cost $1176.
Pick up new Pixel 3 for around ~$600.
10GB/month on Optus thus would equal $24/month.

Is it really that great a deal?

    • For poor people, yes

    • The Note 10 with 2 years on Boost (6.66Gb/month) come to less than $1120 in 2 years during Black Friday and the phone is like one of the newest so this is probably not great value if you're willing to pay upfront

    • yes but only for a few months. After new plans come, you might get more data for $24/m.

Esp for those who take contract phone under $50 or $60 per month, this is best deal available at present.

This phone was introduced October 2018. You'll be paying $49/month for it until 2022.
Some people are okay with that but if I'm locking into a contract from now on, it's a 12 month boost SIM.
Some phones struggle to last the 2 years as is.

Agree except phone is warranted for the life of the plan.

        • Re: Phone being warranted. I got told (Telstra) if there was a problem with my device let them know and they'll ship it away and replace it in 6-8 weeks. During that time, they'll provide a replacement phone (some crappy tiny phone).
8 weeks is basically 2 months. I'd get it repaired out of my own pocket rather than being without my phone for that long. Plus the fact you are paying for a phone you don't even currently have while repairs happen?

@pennypincher98: If you're with Telstra, you ask them to forward ship a replacement phone, then you swap it over st the store. Done that twice last year, took about 2days to get the replacement.

In theory you're supposed to swap it back when it's fixed.

Not in my case with my Google Pixel 2 this time last year. Got sent a refurb Pixel 2 two weeks later and had to make do with a HTC One (M8) (as I couldn't find my HTC 10) as my replacement phone

              • @kerfuffle: Like obviously, I'd use a different phone to what they are providing (I've got both a HTC One M8 and U11) but the concept was there.
Send your phone to get fixed, we'll fix it in due course. Made me hesitant to swap it, the main issue is the USB C port is a bit weird - charges if I wiggle it a bit but can't get audio to play through Google's own buds (tried compressed air + a toothpick).

                • @pennypincher98: Hey mate, just FYI. Have a Pixel 2 with an iffy USB-C port, won't charge right, buds don't work and compressed air/toothpick didn't work.

Phone was under warranty until Christmas. Took it in to JB, they gave me some Galaxy, three days later my pixel was back and fixed. Apparently they 'fixed nothing' but there were black marks around the port and it had clearly been replaced.

Regardless, phone port works amazingly. I reckon Telstra just didn't want to give me a new warranty like 4days from it expiring lol.

                  • @TogTogTogTog: Well I'm only in contract for another 2 months, you reckon I'd be able to get a replacement now? I'm probably going to sell it in 2 months anyway 😂

I bought it from a Telstra shop initially (no JB had stock) do you think JB would take it back?

              • @kerfuffle: Depends on the staff you get.

I had a chat with 8 stores about a loan phone and only one had them, so when I went in, they didn't have one, but after digging around for one, the boss said why don't they just forward ship a replacement? So they sis that. When that replacement buggered up, I went ro another store closer and asked them to forward ship a replacement and they did (after asking the boss what that was).

I suspect it's just who you get and mention the magic words.

  • I've just finished Telstra 24 month contract and looking to sign up a new one for under $60/month- this looks pretty good and probably the best deal currently!

I'm surprised the major telco's now have all changed their phone plan structure to SIM + phone on top- to me they cost more than what they were previously? Based on deals on OzB it looks like majority buy phone outright and sign on a cheap SIM plan; but this option is less ideal for those who claim phone bills through work (which normally has a $ limit)…or am I not doing the sums correctly?

    • I am at exact same state as you. Almost finished 24m contract in next 2-3 days.
This phone and plan for $49/m with 10gb per month looks best at present, isn't it?
Did you come across any other comparative phone and plan for this?
      Please share.

      • Nope I haven't- walked into the major telco's (Telstra, Optus, Voda) to check out their plans and was told all follow the same format- choose a SIM plan (no contract) + phone on top. Majority of plans come to minimum $70 with a decent phone (Samsung S10, iPhone 8 above). My current contract signed 2 years ago (Nov'17) came with a free Samsung S8 at $49/month for 2 years which I thought was good value given the phone was introduced that year.

I'm in VIC so unsure if HN here has the same deal as OP but will check out tomorrow.

    • Otherwise, as outright phone, I am thinking of : Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB/64GB Dual Sim - TobyDealsAU ($288.80AU Free Shipping)

again that one seems to have better camera and battery than pixel 3

  • HN chadstone would only offer the 64GB version at $49/month

    • I see, so did you lock it?
Alternatively look at other one … Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB/64GB Dual Sim - TobyDealsAU ($288.80AU Free Shipping)
That has best camera and battery.

      • Nope I didn't, thought I'd wait out a little to see if new offers come around.

There's a current flybuys offer which I might take on in the meantime, might be something you would also consider?

  • Seems good, thanks for sharing. If all HN stores offered this good times good times
