  • Wonder how strong the suction is and if it wobbles when using a hammer to bend something

They're not for banging on, just holding things. They're for model making etc.

Bang on… help is on it's way, I'll be there as fast as I can…

Wow. An LRB reference. Blast from the past!

    • Don't get the suction cup version if you can avoid it. Pretty useless and weak suction cup.

      • Just by looking at it, I can guess how useless it can be. I would not even waste $5 on this.

      Vise

      *Vices.

      Theirs too of them.

      • Lols

      • Veece

      • off* thames*

    • I believe Vise is the American spelling.

  • Dunno if they've gotten better over the years, but those vises are crap. Buy a pair of these: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-11-… for when you punt it over the fence.

I've got the suction one and it is TOTALLY useless, even on a completely smooth counter top surface. Gripping part is also plastic and comes off easily.
I need a good vise, but dang they're expensive.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
Saved me the hassle of buying it and returning it.
      Cheers!

      • Glad to help :)

    • Wouldn’t even stand up to holding a projector vertically so I can watch on the ceiling?

      • The suction part is more problematic than the vise part, which works fine. On a smooth kitchen counter top w/ a little water to aid suction it will only hold for ~3 minutes with no use, as soon as you apply a little pressure it moves. The suction part is an ABS plastic, the vise grip is the same type of plastic and melts easily… so want to cut a screw w/ your Dremel and the heat will melt the grip.
Btw have been using an ALR pj screen that rises up from behind a cabinet… works awesome.

The Stanley vice from Bunnings for $45 is a very good tool for lightweight work. It costs three times as much but is very well made. https://www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-multi-angle-hobby-vice_p…

  • Bought a clamp one last time. Never used it yet - mainly cos I keep forgetting I even have it when I need it lol.

Never even considered the suction. Can see for any hardware usage relying on a suction cup is just asking for trouble.

  • can i crack walnuts with these?

  • This vice seems similar at Bunnings for cheaper

    • That’s not a swivel vice, if that matters to you.

  • can I use it as a monitor stand?

    • The last time I bought a monitor it came with a stand.

      • What would you assume would be the case if the person above you was looking for a stand for their monitor?

        • What would be your answer be to his question?

Clamp vice is a great little unit.

  • Hopefully Bunnings will drop price on their equivalent

    • +1

They don't seem to have one. The only ball joint/articulating one seems to be the Stanley above, and I doubt they're going to drop the price on that (if they do, hey hey!)

Otherwise, their cheapie generic vice is already cheaper as maxpowerchange has linked.

Gotta love a Sound of Music reference.

  • These are great for holding locks when you're lockpicking (I've heard).

  • They are use less don't do much. better to get bench vice from Bunning and get sleeper make small bench attach vice to it. Its become potable. I am unable to upload photo of mine.
