Windows 7 Professional 32/64bit for AUD $30.54 Direct from Microsoft App Store

1680

While this product is also available from the Australian Digital River "It's Not Cheating" store, it is significantly cheaper to purchase direct from the US Microsoft App Store $30.54AUD vs $119AUD.

And for those wondering if it will work/activate even though we are in different regions? The answer to that is Yes!

Please note however, you will need to be a University student (technically anyways ;)) with a .edu OR .edu.au email address.

Edit: Forgot to mention! you can only purchase 1 copy per .edu.au email address within a 12 month period.

Comparison:

Microsoft App Store ($29.99 + AUD conversion + GST = $30.54):

Download ISO Version only 32/64bit.

UPDATE 2: Please follow the directions below (will work for any University .edu.au address *Thanks kumak for sharing * I totally forgot that I was registered for it hence why it wouldnt work for most of you ^_^ )

Please sign up using your University email (.edu.au) to Microsoft Dreamspark (it's free)
https://www.dreamspark.com/default.aspx

After which you will have gained access to a variety of free full licensed MS products (retailing $300+ each) for example:

MS Visual Studio Professional Edition 2010
MS Mathematics 2010
MS Server 2008
MS Game Lab
etc

Once you've verified you email address, proceed with purchase of Windows 7:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/pd/productID.216…

Now you can pretty much enter anything for the address or you can enter your real address using the following method: (example only:
Name: John
Last: Smith
Address: 273 Newcastle Rd, Jesmond, NSW, 2289 Australia
Zip: 02289
Phone: (02) 49129382

After you've checkout and paid for the product, you will be sent an email with the download link and serial number from MS.

      • ta, with "it's not cheating" you could buy a separate 32/64 version.

You can already get Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 but betetr) for free from DreamSpark.

If your uni gives you access to MSDNAA, you can probably get Windows 7 proper for free too.

Presumably what you order here would be subject to similar licensing restrictions as copies obtained for free from above-mentioned sites, so as someone else pointed out, for (rough guestimate) 90% of people interested in this deal, it's not really any better than just cracking it.

    • Is the license key for 1 desktop PC + 1 laptop?

      • As far as I know yes.

        • Are you saying the win7pro license can be used on one desktop and one laptop?

        • Yes.

        • Are you sure you are not confused with Microsoft Office Professional?
Windows has been always 1 product key for 1 pc. Only last exception with Win XP Professional yonks ago.

    • True, though of course cracking is not really what we should be doing. :)

Alternatively you could buy this license and continue using your cracked copy. So you can at least feel good about being legit or something!

  • anyway that I could upgrade from Windows XP without re-installing all 3rd party programs and loosing old files?

I have to give this a fat negative because title should say for students, it is not a recent\limited bargain (hence should be in forums really) and even if you are student you can get free versions from dreamspark (every student .edu) and MSDNAA (some) so its not a good deal.

      Free w7pro from dreamspark? Really?

    • +2

I would beg to differ - DreamSpark does not give out free Windows 7 copies, not all universities have MSDNAA (mine pulled it without warning for some reason!) and it could very well be limited in the sense of "until they find out about this glitch".

But yes, it really should specify for students only!

Just worked with my real .edu.au address. Just had to verify via Dreamspark.

    Thanks for posting!

I'm a student of bargain hunting - hmm can we get ozbargain.edu.au email addresses please? :P

Worked fine with my uni's email. Don't know if I can use the alternative email which is my student number instead of my name… that and my uni changed domains too, so I could buy four?!

    • Haha, watch your comment get negged like crazy.

Will this work on Mac laptops or computers?

    • No, these only work on windows

  • how long did it take for you guys to receive the confirmation email?

  • does anyone know what happens if you buy the version that's shipped out on a DVD? does it work? it's asking me to put my state in, but it only asks for american states…

even if i don't ask for a backup DVD it still asks for an american state…

  • Wow this worked really well. I just used this to upgrade my GF's compy from vista basic.
In conjunction with a reformat (to delete all the bloatware that's been on for the past three years), this has really sped up her computer. Beats pirating!
