Has anyone tried to get the Sheridan stores to match the online deal?

    • +17

Not possible because non-outlet Sheridan stores do not stock outlet towels. These outlet towels are of cheaper and inferior quality to the non-outlet towel range and hence is cheaper and sells in the outlet only.

      • +1

Yes, big difference in quality between Sheridan towels & ones made cheap specially for Sheridan Outlet stores.

        • So all the towels sold at the Outlet stores are made just for them? (like specific cheaper models) I thought some were branded as "Sheridan Outlet" brand, so I figured to steer clear of them.

But from time to time are the good quality items available at the outlet?

(I guess it makes sense as to how the outlet always has lots of stock to sell…)

          • +3

@spaij: All the towels, pillows, quilts and some sheets in the outlet stores are only for outlets. However, outlet stores also stock some non-outlet range of other products (e.g sheets, pillowcases and quilt covers) that are old season.

            • +10

@waterbottled: wow really, i never knew this, thats just dodgy. Because outlets used to imply just that they are trying to get rid of normal stock or a direct from manufacturer to public and hence cheaper….

              • +4

@lonewolf: Outlet stores primarily trade on the reputation of their major brand. The majority of stock is made cheaply for outlet stores. It's good for profits

Adam Ruins Everything - Malls did a good outing of this. "outlet stores are a scam selling purpose-made, low quality merchandise" (Couldn't find free link)

              • +4

@lonewolf: yeah it's super dodgy, especially with the non-outlet items' super inflated, fake RRP prices. RRP prices are not real because they're not sold in the actual Sheridan stores.

                • +1

@waterbottled: If they're lying about RRP, then the ACCC would be glad to hear about it.

            • +1

@waterbottled: Is there a way to identify them? Do outlet only stocks have product names not available in non-outlet stores (for example)?

              • +1

@tukanglistrik: That's right - outlet only stocks have product names not available in non-outlet stores and website. The only way to know is to search for the name of the towel in the non-outlet Sheridan website and see if it pops up. If it doesn't, then it's 100% an outlet item.

                • +1

@waterbottled: Thanks! That means no products in the linked page are from their regular range :(

                • @waterbottled: I see they say that on the about us page:

We’re proud of our high quality products available at everyday prices, sold exclusively under the Sheridan Outlet brand.

Our merchandise also includes out-of-season and discontinued bed linen and towels from our Sheridan retail locations, and production samples that vary slightly from Sheridan on-range designs in their fabrication, colour or trim. Our range of discounted Sheridan-branded products extends your choices to include quilt covers, quilt cover sets and accessories.

I am 100% agree with you there. Tried the outlet one once. Threw it out within a year as it lost the softness feeling very quick. The one I bought from David Jones still in excellent condition after the same amount of usage.

      • +3

I learnt the hard way with bedding stuff from Sheridan outlet. I purchased this washed linen set. Got a fitted sheet, doona cover and 2 pillowcases. Paid $200 all up, apparently was $550 or some nonsense RRP. I was expecting nice sheets for that money but they are by far the worst sheets I've ever come across. They are so rough and uncomfortable. Won't buy from them again. They should not be allowed to use deceptive 2 price comparisons like that.

        • +3

You too! My first & last Sheridan Outlet purchase!!

Bought the washed linen fitted sheet for $70 ($99 online, RRP $200). Offered the doona cover and 2 pillowcases for $99 - glad I declined.

Never lived up to the hype about softness & comfort. Was glowing told by staff about the luxury feel - softer after every wash.

Was also told they would not accept a return due to hygiene, which may breach ACL!

Their RRP is a con so people think they are getting a bargain.

I was using comfy ex-hotel linen sheets bought from an op shop years ago for 50c each & hoped for at least that level of comfort. Disappointed!

Bought $2 180tc fitted sheets & 30c pillow cases from Woolies Deal at same time - I prefer them!

That's how bad some Sheridan Outlet products are!,

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Yep, the week after I bought them, the fitted sheets went down to $70. I paid $99. Just a bit more salt in the wound.

I've washed them a few times now and they are just as bad as when I got them. I don't understand how a major brand like that would sell that sort of material for bedding.

I was tempted to actually neg this deal based on my experience with them, but this is a different product so it may be OK, but I'm definitely not gonna chance buying from them again.

            • +1

              @Shaun Prawn: Totally agree!
              A good warning.
Bought on last day of sale in store, so was better price than I expected. A disappointing experience.

          • +3

@INFIDEL: When I read Ex hotel linen sheets…alot of things was processing in my head lol.

            • @luffyex2010: That's all in your mind😉

From a commercial laundry that supplied to quality hotel. After a certain amount of use, they sell them off cheap or donate to charity. The person before me paid a lot to sleep in these sheets! I only paid 50c.
Good Linen lasts & softens with use.

    • What about getting the outlet store to match the online offer if it's apparently "online only"? Seems there's stock at my local…

Much prefer the size of bath sheets over towels though.

FYI people, the ultra lights suck (IMO). They do more smearing of water than actual drying (compared to other sheridan towels).

    • the ultra lights suck (IMO).

      So they are?

      • +1

Whooosh. Over my head im afraid.

        • +1

May be we should use Bowden's Own The Big Green Sucker XD

        • do the towels suck up the water or just suck at doing their job?

    • +3

I found they just take a couple more washes than the thicker ones and don't use fabric softener. Like washing micro fibre clothes, fabric softener ruins it's absorbancy.

      • Fair enough. I'm not sure how my wife washes them haha.

But if I have the choice of a $25 2 pack of ultra light or regular I will get regular. :)

    • +1

At first mine did the same (smearing water on you when you're trying to dry yourself) but after three washes, they are fine and absorbent. I prefer them as we don't get a lot of light/heat into the ensuite and if you use a heavy towel and then hang it up, it takes ages to try even in Summer or in Winter, it stays damp and ends up smelling like spring onions within a day.

The Ultra Lights have solved this problem for me.

  • +1

$22.50 with Unidays, that's a great deal on these towels!

  • +1

Looking at the Patterson and it says Twin pack for $25 but none of the colour options have the ability to select that deal. Plenty of towels avail to buy though?

/e nvm very limited colours and designs have the 2 pack avail.

  • Any collections superior to the others? e.g. Ultra Light > Patterson? Given they're all around the same price anyway

  • Don’t the David Jones Sheridan towels go 40%-50% off anyways? I only buy Sheridan from DJ, I feel like it’s better quality in comparison to Sheridan outlet.

    • +2

      they are.

    • Cheaper if you buy from Sheridan direct (the non-outlet)

  • sheridan was 40% off in myer up until last week, might still be going

  • +2

    These towels suck btw.
When we moved into our own new house. I was like okay, quality buy a bunch now. Bought quite a few and then after use, regretted it.
Doesn’t give you the drying effect or feel. No matter after how many washes, there’s still stuff that comes off it.

Would not recommend. I got them for $11 so each.

    • All of them are bad?

      • Yeah, it’s not a one off for a single towel.

We’ve used most of the ones we’ve purchased and also got face/hand towels of the same line and they’re just as bad.

  • -4

These towels are fine, lots of people complaining at the towels for $12.50 each. You get what you pay for, want to not complain? pay $50 each jesus

    • +12

I rather pay $12.50 and complain, thank you very much.

      • +4

I pay $12.50 and my wife complains. I tell her Sheridan isn't what they used to be and she accepts it and continues to use the towels as her mum said Sheridan is the best.

  • I have also found in general that cheap towels have no absorbing ability.

  • Sheridan stores in Sydney from last few days are doing 40-50% off. Eg. Luxury egyptian towel is $50 RRP so usually costs $25 and is one of their best absorbing soft towels.

  • +3

Remember that $10 joining voucher that was on ozbargain a few months ago which they cancelled on everyone citing a clerical error? They still spammed my inbox with their newsletter every day even though they cancelled my towels.

    • +1

I've joined up a few times with different emails over the years. Never received code or anything! Didn't even show up in SPAM.

      • That's ok they never were going to honour it anyway
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/493094

        • +1

This was when they did honour it - long ago. But shipping & poor quality would have stopped me using code. In store prices were cheaper than online on some products with code.

When there were cheap prices & free shipping, the code got Ozbargained.

    • +1

Just now I have used that $10 gift card to pay!

  • +1

I grew up believing (largely from being told by family), that Sheridan towels were meant to be the best.
In the past few years, I’ve bought some….and they are ..really not good? At all. Initials few uses, sure, they’re more than fine. But they degrade quickly and I’ve found that they retain their smell much quicker than other brands.
Have since moved to Heritage - Have found them to be ten times better. Their Hotel range is particularly great.

    • Similar experience, they start to smell wet fairly quickly. Maybe it's because I got the thick ones. But I find the rough kmart towels dry better

      • Kmart towels dry better than Sheridan ones?!

        • From my experience, yeah. They're think rough beach like towels. Sheridan one i got are too thick and fluffy.

  • +7

41 votes atm with most people saying how crappy the towels are. lol

    • +2

Unfortunately, it's price over quality here😢

People believe the Sheridan Outlet store sells the same quality as their Sheridan products. It's not true in almost all cases.

These are manufactured cheaply to sell cheaply. Bought once, never again!!

  • +1

Brought with my $25 birthday voucher so only paid shipping! 😊

    • Don't mean to sound like a sanctimonious ass but ts bought, not brought.

  • I could not find a single post code where I was able to pick up. Are these delivery only?

    • It's specified in the post.

      • You are right, my bad.

  • This is a stupid question, but can someone tell me do people wash their bath towels by machine every time after they have a bath? Does it make it less soft? How long should people use a bath towel?

    • +1

It's perfectly OK for you to wash towels in your washing machine.

Depends on the people. If you clean yourself up well while in the shower, the towel won't get sweaty or stinky. You should be able to use the towel for 2 to 4 showers at least.

If you're the kind that wipes their underarm with bath towels right after coming home from an all day cricket tournament, you're going to need a fresh towel for every shower.

      • Thank you!!!
