Dewalt 254mm 1850W Table Saw $595 (Was $853) @ Total Tools

690

Dewalt DW745-XE table saw. Online sale for 3 days only. No code required.

I bought this exact model from Total Tools about a month ago (stupidly didn't use my CC with price guarantee….) and can say its great!

Cheaper than the earlier Bunnings deal on limited stock https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/487460 and far cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it advertised.

also receive a free 185mm circular saw thru guaranteedtough.com.au

    • Will that work? The model number on the redemption site is DWE7491-XE while this is DW745XE.

    • Different saw for the redemption, not this one….

    • I wish this were the DWE7491-XE!

  • great portable table saw… I got it for $650 a while back. highly recommend.

I got the Aldi one for $50…

I recommend spending the extra $545 for a decent one like this

    • +5

Not if you keep it in the box like I have.

      • Lol same here. Returned it after 12mths of taking up space.

    • Lol really? I didnt get the Aldi saw but is it that bad eh?

      • +5

The measurements are a badly positioned sticker, which some drunk seemingly guestimated, resulting in no actual alignment. The fence needs to be fully dismantled to be moved, and has very limited areas it can really be. I'm not sure the fence is even straight.

The blade guard makes no sense, must be disposed of. There is no easy or accurate way to change the angle of the blade. Haven't tried the height adjustment much, just leave it on max.

        That'll do for now

    • But the Aldi one comes with a lifetime 50% discount on gloves ski poles.

      • +1

Yeah the rip fence on the aldi is a nightmare to use, not square, not straight and quite frankly, a bi$%h to setup

        • Actually find the rip fence on the Aldi fine, easy to get square because it has a measuring tape fixed to the table on each side. Haven't had the fence move out of square, if it did I would just clamp it. If it were cutting out of square my suggestion would be to check the blade, the first thing I did was change the blade.

          • @donkcat: I set mine up earlier this week after sitting in the box for a couple of years. The instructions were a bit vague but I finally got there. The fence is a bit crap and will need modifying. Otherwise, I was impressed. Beats hand saw every day of the week, even with the original saw blade.

            • @besmirched: Yeah the fence would be easy enough to change out to a bit of angle etc. I’m not comparing for the price paid

          • @donkcat: My "measuring tape" on both sides was out by 13mm OF EACH OTHER, no idea as to the actual accuracy of either side.

Regardless, pointless and a terrible setup. I'll put some effort into marking it myself soon and see if the fence straightens well enough.

            • @Salmando: Geez that’s pretty poor, mine is within 1mm so maybe I got lucky.

so you think 12 Aldi ones can't beat this DeWalt one, math tells me 12 Aldi ones will cut 12 times faster.

      • +4

Will also cut 12x more crooked and 12x more likely to cut your hand, x12

so you think 12 Aldi ones can't beat this DeWalt one, math tells me 12 Aldi ones will cut 12 times faster.

Sometimes with woodworking you'd rather get 1 accurate cut rather than get 12 inaccurate cuts.

My Dad always said Measure once, cut twice.

It was tragic the day he died when the house he was building collapsed.

    • is there a thread for the aldi one?

      • It works fine. For 50 bucks it beats a hand saw, and it does cut quite nice. I'll be good if you make an actual table for it, and create your own fence. The fence can at least be set strong, but you'll have to mark the table yourself to make sure it's aligned properly.
A guy above said his was within 1mm of being accurate, mine was visually off. I'd wager I got a below average quality one.

For $100, it's very usable. For $50, it's the cheapest way to accurately remove your fingers

    I have the bigger brother:
    https://www.totaltools.com.au/power-tools/corded-tools/saws/…

I am very happy with it. Unless you are going to build it in, I suggest you get the folding trolley for it…. but that adds to the price a bit. I think this one suits that saw:

Bought this 2 years ago for 704 bucks, my 2 cents on this

    Pros:
    * The rip fence is pbly the best and most convenient for a construction porta tsaw. Reasonably square and easily adjustable.
10 Inch blade, its a 24 teeth, i bought a diablo ones for cutting nicer hardwood (60t)
*portable, can carry with 2 hands

    Cons:
*Motor shaft is short, can only fit 3 dado blades minus washers to barely fit the nut on.
*The blade has a tendency to wobble when cutting large stock
*The included angle mitre gauge is sh@t the space for the slot is not straight, makes it hard to make jigs for table saw

So its pbly the "Best Value" Table saw with a good design and reasonably accurate cuts, nice to use with usage in mind. if your after a table saw, get this

  • Bought this a few years ago and love it. Definitely worth it

  • good saw i bought it about a month ago for $650. Has a great rigid fence.

  • I would consider getting this if I didn’t live in a shoebox apartment 😞

Videos on the internet of people testing with their frankfurt.

  • This or the $99 Ozito one?

    • The Ozito table saw is a POS. Fence and angle mitre gauge are wobbly, so your cuts are never accurate.

    • I have this ozito one and it is terrible. Though by clamping a bit of scrap to use as the fence and making some jigs to cut at 90 and 45 etc and clearly marking on each bit of tape how far off it is I have managed to get through most of what I wanted to use it for.

I am still very tempted to try and return it after as it was almost impossible for me to make a straight cut with it out of the box.

      • It's funny how these cheap ones got it wrong. The blade is fine, the function is fine - the basics are so impossibly wrong that they surely never tested a unit.

How hard could it really be to add an accurate measurement lable to square metal during production?

Sometimes I wonder if bolting a circular saw upside down through a table is the smart route

  • Great deal, thanks.

Stock is going fast. It disappeared from the Sydney Tools website just before I clicked to buy. I managed to get an ex-display one from Canberra. Otherwise delivery for Total Tools was +$47

    Oos in Melbourne 😟

  • Interesting, Bunnings used to stock this (which would have been great for doing a price match), but now stock the DWE7485-XE. Looks like the DW745-XE has been superseded?

  • Was about to buy it but its been removed..

  • The page is down now. I'm assuming they're out of stock :(

  • +1

I got the DW745 display model from Bunnings Mentone 6 days ago for $450. Seems like a discontinited model..

    • +1

Bunnings Vermont South had their display model on clearance for ~$600 a few weeks ago, with no box or accessories.

I reckon DeWalt are going to bring the DW7480 to Australia after clearing all the DW745 stock.
