Boost Mobile 240GB Starter Sim 12 Months $270 Delivered, Unlimited Talk & Text, Overseas @ Bringbrightness eBay

1080
PREPARE

Ozb's most popular sim, but the 240GB version instead of the 80gb. Not the best price, but better than the normal $300 price on Boost's website. Historic low is $240 on boxing day I believe. I snagged one for myself as 20GB with international calls for $22.5 per month is great value imo.

  • Is it can't use it to recharge?

    • +3

Correct. It’s a starter sim. Port out and back in otherwise.

      • Yeah what cheaponos said

      • I've never done this before, pretty new to this Sim business. So right now I've ported over from a 2 year Optus Plan to a $20 Boost Sim. If I want this deal here, where do I port out to? Do I need to port out to say a monthly plan from Amaysim, then just before that expires, port over to this deal?

        • Pretty much, but you should first check the t&c on the new customer.

        • +3

Easiest is to port out to a prepaid sim from another provider, preferably one that costs you the least.. then port back in.

Telstra $2 sims are free if you order online, so are a few others I think.

Note there may be some difficulties porting from certain providers (I think previously mentioned was Telstra postpaid to boost).

  • +8

Ported to this a few days ago. Got it for 228 price matched with officeworks. Great service so far. 457/61mbps in an inner Melbourne suburb

    • How long did the porting to boost take? I need to do it soon myself. Telstra to amaysim was about 5min but earlier in the year porting to Telstra took about two weeks.

      • I did this a couple of months ago, went from Telstra post-paid to Boost and had to go through two separate account changes (was changed to Telstra pre-paid first, then Boost pre-paid…). Took about a week, mostly because something went wrong on Boost's end and was escalated, maybe 4 days from Telstra pre-paid to Boost pre-paid.

        • Did you have to cancel your Telstra post-paid afterwards or does porting automaticall cancel your post-paid plan?

          • @monchee: The porting from telstra post-paid to Telstra pre-paid cancelled the post-paid plan, it would have triggered ETF then (if I had one). Technically I went on a $5 plan but they never billed me for it, then I rang up Boost and finished the port to them.

            • @freefall101: I see. So I'm currently on Optus, if I port it, it'll be the same as your experience without the extra step? I've never moved before.

              • +1

@monchee: Nope, completely different, it's only because Boost and Telstra are the same network. There's no additional steps coming from anyone else, just ring up Boost, activate the card and Optus will send you a final bill.

              • @monchee: Last week port out from Optus to this plan, chat with the consultant took 15 mins then in next three hours ready to use

                • @Sunford: Thanks! Have the sim on hand now, just a matter of porting soon.

      • -1

I ported from Kogan to this last Sunday. Took 24 hours.

        • That's coz they don't do ports on Sunday.

          • @Wardaddy: I know. Their website says so. Was just giving my own personal experience on how long it took.

      • 2 hours total, Optus to Boost

    • -2

How did you price matched? Call the customer care? And what is the inclusion in $228?

    • -1

what phone are you using to get that speed?

    • This is what I'm doing too, come 31st Jan. That was an awesome deal

https://www.tovmobile.com.au/products/boost-mobile-300-prepa… Cheaper here, they will accept an offer of $240. They mention "Please Do Not Publish Any Our Deals/ coupon code / Or buy price in Our local store in Any Social Media, Unless Permitted." So keep it in the comments…

    • -4

      That's still publishing though?

    • Thanks mate, got one.

    • how do you 'offer'?

      • Should be a button on the page saying "name your price".

      • I didnt buy but its "Name your price" under the add to cart I put in $200 and it came back with 240

    • I bought from this guy.

      Thanks for the heads up.

      • Did you port in ??

        • Nope, not yet.

          Only ordered today.

Did you get their permission to publish?

Got one, thanks for the heads up! I've been waiting for this to hit $240 again.
If anyone else is having any issues getting the $240 price to apply I found that I had to create an account/sign in before making the offer and adding to cart.
Initially I added to cart then created an account and the price was showing as $300 on the checkout page.

      • thank you for the tips.. I was unable to do it until I follow your instruction.

    • Just picked up an 80gb Sim from these guys. Made an offer and best price I could find. Do thanks for the heads up.

    • Back in stock. Thanks!

    • Cheers for the heads up! I just ordered one!!!!!

    • is it just me or the name your price option has been removed? i just cant seem to find it….

  • +1

80GB is just not enough. Its stressing me out!

    • What do you use so much data for?

      • +2

80gb pa = 6.66gb per month, which is 222mb per day. Not enough for lots of people.

        • oh sure…when you break it down like that. I'm fine with 1gb a month haha, I use like 200mb

    • If you stream music just use Apple Music, download videos you want to watch directly
      To your phone at home

My biggest problem with this sim is I used to spend half my time looking at different JB plans, trying to figure out if I should buy a phone with a plan, figuring out whether it's worth the Optus/Voda networks to save a few dollars.

Now I've signed up and have zero FOMO in my life because it's fast, cheap and I don't even have a monthly bill to worry about. I've had to turn to alcohol and strippers to fill the void.

    • +1

Me too, but I'm finding I quite enjoy it. They say alcoholism is a illness, and if that's true, it's definitely the best illness to have. Better than, say, cancer or MS.

  • +1

Honestly don’t know how it sells out every time. The reception is poor in CBD especially inside basements and in big buildings. Is it better in suburbs?

    • How does it compare to other networks?

      • I used amaysim (optus) and the reception is pretty great compared to telstra within the places I mentioned.

    • Another factor is the phone you are using. Does it support all the bands used by Telstra (or other Aust telcos)? If you use a very old model phone or a grey import, chances are it is not.

    • Agree with you. Had better reception with Aldi who are supposed to be on the inferior Telstra network! Not a phone issue. Tested with 2 phones with all bands. Ported back within a day back to Aldi. The Boost support was so poor that I am compelled to share my experience.

      • I moved to Boost from Kogan and i agree that telstra network is overrated. It will be better or the only choice in rural areas but in the main cities its similar to optus and vodafone.I find boost is worse than kogan in the melbourne CBD train tunnels.

I know that this is not the main thing to consider, but if you aim to boost your credit score, it is better off to stay on a postpaid plan. If it is not an issue, sure switch to Boost Mobile, I will switch too once the $240 offer will be live again.

    • +2

      Boost is prepaid though?

      • +1

        It is prepaid yeah.

Wonder why so many people gave me negative votes. Does it hurt to know that a postpaid plan increases your credit score if it's paid on time? So does a credit card and your utilities.

        • +2

People aren't that concerned about that on here. If you want to talk about Personal Finance/building credit and etc., it's best left on a SubReddit than on a forum like this focusing on the product in question with respect to the pros/cons of the purchase.

Unfortunately, what you're describing was a bit of a tangent that no one really cared for. It happens. I'd probably delete your comment to avoid people from piling on.

  • Be careful of them. We bought a starter sim kit, but you couldn't use the sim in the kit you had to wait up to 2 days for a different sim to be sent to you in the mail. Ten days later still no sim in the mail, so submitted complaint to the ombudsman. Telstra complaints person agreed to refund cost of sim and send written apology for the appalling rudeness of boost phone operator, still waiting and that was last year. Amaysim has a much better deal at the moment and their phone operators were helpful.

    • I assume that you were trying to port from a Telstra line?

I just activated mine (no port), zero issues.

Sister ported from voda, zero issues.

From reading comments in other posts, this whole new special sim thing is isolated to Telstra postpaid customers trying to port?

      • I was a prepaid Telstra customer and after Boost's appalling customer service - they are like dodo, extinct from me ever going near them again.

  • +2

Can anyone explain how the recharge works with a combination of 12m, 6m and 1m recharges? So for example, if I get a 12m sim and run out of data after 6m (but still have 6m of calls left) can I get a 1m recharge to top up the data but keep using the remaining 6m of calls?

Second question, any means to share data with other boost customers? Maybe a family account or something?

  • Can someone pls post a pic showing where is name your price? ive looked everywhere but stil cant seem to find it.

    Thanks in advance

  • Anyone know if you can get a code from this so you can recharge instantly in the app?

I just paid the full $300 this time as I was desperate but for next time or others in the same boat I'm wondering if they can give you a code to recharge pretty much instantly instead of using a new sim abs everything and I think if you are upgrading from the 80gb $150 12 month prepaid plan to the 240gb $300 12 month prepaid plan you have to port out first is that correct which makes the upgrade even more annoying.

Can anyone answer any of these questions but I am mainly interested in if you can get a code for $240 to redeem in the app at all because I can't remember if my $150 package came with one for the option to upgrade online instantly.

    Thanks.

    Have a lovely week all.

    • I think you gotta port out and port back in to use this sim

      • So I guess I paid $60 via the app aka online for the convenience.

Hmm pricey but I am time and energy poor but becoming money rich relatively so this is good for me but would have been nice to take advantage of the cheaper price.

Ah well can't have it all.

        • Just contact boost to confirm, you might get lucky

          • @Zalur: Oh you mean like potential retro hindsight account credit hmm yeah ok I might try that if I get time and energy though not sure how it would work I wonder if they can do tabs or positive account balances not even sure if you can even incur debt or if the order will bounce if you try to pay with a method with not enough money.

            Interesting.
